TEXSPLEEN  Noticed a lot of dissatisfaction with Flash being 32 bit in the comments. My personal opinion is that Apple has some surprises up its sleeve with future Webkit releases. Got a feeling Flash wont be needed in Safari as video playback etc will be built into the browser? Browser plugins days are numbered.

ILGAZ  The reality is, HTML5 Video died before it could took off because of zealotry and insisting of "non patented" formats by some camp. Nobody will switch to VP3 format, some decade old format from H264 or even MPEG4 SP especially while there are no "hardware chips" for it.

So, Opera/Mozilla insists on VP3, Apple says "Use the damn Quicktime framework" (they are right), MS completely ignored it and Flash has 92% of global reach.

Adobe is just lazy and also must do some insane amount of backwards compatibility work to ship 10.1 64bit with hardware h264 acceleration. Don't look for it, 10.1 is under NDA and only shared to some very big partners of Adobe.

JSH  All of my web-based videos died as well; neither Safari nor Facebook would play any online videos. In 32 or 64 bit mode. So I removed Shockwave Player (thankfully they had an Uninstaller) and all is back to normal.

I hardly ever use Shockwave content anyway.

ClamXav

TEXSPLEEN  YES! This program does detect viruses, and does a great job of it. I downloaded 2 files yesterday and ClamXav detected and isolated viruses it found in both files. This is a great piece of virus software, and it's FREE. Many thanks and congrats to the developer.

TEXSPLEEN  Works fine for me under osx 10.4. Just wish transfer speeds were a little faster. (Don't forget to hit the refresh button after uploading so you can see your file.) This program has great potential if continued to be developed. Great alternative to an expensive .mac account. Keep up the good work.

TEXSPLEEN  Too many features disabled to be able to give a proper review of this beta? But is quite different from previous version (1.2.2). Still very buggy as well. Looks promising though. A bit like iphoto, a bit like

Omniweb? Will be well worth a look when a little

more developed.

TEXSPLEEN  I've been using Shiira as my main browser almost since it came out and have had few problems with it. Although I have turned off the Page Transition effect

(which I suspect may cause shiira to crash from time to time?). It's a terrific browser, especially the sidebar feature. I'm also a wrap for the icon preferences which allow you to change icons and the look from metal to aqua. One thing that could be improved is the password management. The keychain access method used by Safari is far more stable and reliable.

Maybe the Developers can build improved password management into Shiira in a future release (a-la-firefox). Overall I highly recommend this browser.

If you like Safari you should enjoy Shiira.
