TEKL I tried to change the syntax definition for PHP and I see that the plist already contains lot of keywords and correct definitions for variables etc. But Schnippselchen seems not to use most of them. For example variables ($variable) should be coloured different. But it does not happen if I select the php syntax scheme. (Version 2.1)

Apple Migration and DVD/CD Sharing | Oct 17 2008 |
MISHA I don't think this will ever be possible because of limitations to USB2. But I agree... it literally took about 20 hours for me to migrate 40GB or so from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air over 802.11n (yes, full-speed n). And it didn't even work, in the end the user was not recognized on the Air (although all the files were there and my home folder was in the Users folder, there was no way for me to login). Apps and stuff worked fine, but those are easy to install normally anyway. Suffice to say I didn't wait another 20 hours to try it again and just did things manually in a couple hours. Very frustrating. (Version )

GUILLAUMEK "including Cocoa apps, screen savers, and preference panes. It can even update kernel extensions, regular files, and root-owned applications." This is the interesting part, where it's better than Sparkle. This framework seems to handle files without executables, which Sparkle lacks AFAIK. You can't currently update stuff like plugins, drivers, file systems.. in fact, for most of the stuff installed in /Library Sparkle can't help you. I think the only exception are preference panes which can check for updates by themself. You actually need a program or daemon which contains the Sparkle framework to checks for updates. Now, I'm not too tech savy on all this so don't take my word as gospel. (Version 1.0)

TEKL Most highlighters seem not to work ('php') correctly and there are a lot of duplicate highlighters listed. 'CSS 1' works but 'css' not. Also the App should remember the highlighting for a snippet. Also a group should have a default highlighter. Maybe it's al in there, but the Link in the help file to the manual is dead. Strange that an app with a German name is only available in English. ;-) (Version 1.1)

Scribblet | Sep 24 2008 |
TEKL This is a really nice notepad. Very clean and slim interface and not bloated with lots of functions like similar apps. Some thing's I'm still missing: 1. An option where to save the note file would be nice. Okay I could use a symlink, but an official way is a bit nicer. I would like to save my note onto my iDisk. May mobileme-sync could be an alternative. 2. An option to autosave 5 seconds after the last input, so I won't loose anything when my Mac crashes while the window is visible. Autosave should be done with a temp file, so when the computer crashes while saving I won't loose everything. 3. A way to assign Hotkeys without modifier keys. I would like to assign F13 with Scribblet. (Btw. F13 is not shown at the moment) 4. When Scribblet is visible in the background the hotkey should bring it back to the front instead of closing it (maybe optional) 5. The window should remember its position after quitting. 6. When closing the window the focus should go back to the last active app, so I can look to the note, close it and continue writing without clicking onto the last window 7. Nice would be a customizable background colour 8. If possible the green button in the titlebar should resize the window to fit the content like in Safari. 9. An option to hide the menubar icon so Scribblet is completely invisible. 10. There's no Hotkey for the perferences (normally Cmd+, on German keyboard) Sorry for my bad english. Btw. are interested in a German localization? (Version 1.2.5)

But all are not perfect yet. + Good HTML rendering (Webkit) + Highlighting search results in Text + Good keyboard support (Cmd+G etc.) + Automatically locates the current page in the table of contents + Good search results (can be sorted by relevance) + Zooming can be resetted + Remembers the last position - No options for searching - No toolbar button for print (but Cmd+P works) - No tabs or multiple document windows + Good HTML rendering (Webkit) - Bad keyboard support (no Cmd+G) - No options for searching - You habe to manually 'locate' the current page in the table of contents - Only searchs for words (no partial search) - No home button (and no hotkey for that) - Because of the small tabs its hard to get the title of the current page (which is not shown in the window title) + Contents/Index/Results on left side + Options for searching in titles only or partial + Automatically locates the current page in the table of contents - Does not support custom context menus (like in SelfHTML) - Search results are always sorted alphabetically - No tabs or multiple document windows - The binary of the Mac version won't be updated anymore At the moment ArCHMock has the best usability for me. Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it. Here is some thoughts from me. - No Index - did you mean build custom index for CHM files that weren't compiled with this option on? For example if I take the php_manual and search for opendir the page for opendir has not the highest relevancy. Pages with a matching index entry could have the highest relevancy or the results could be splitted into two sections. I actually like the first idea most - matching index entry will have the highest relevancy. I wanted to have more sophisticated system for relevancy calculation. > Multi doc is not a must, it's just a suggestion. An alternative could be SnapBack or a history menu like in Safari.
