TALLIS  Works great on Snow Leopard (except it doesn't open iCal when I click on a date).

Is a great replacement for iClock that I'd been using before but is outdated.

I especially like the ability to choose the colored icon -along with any color, any font- even though Apple may have chosen to only encourage black and white (or grayscale) icons.

Timer Utility
May 14 2009
*****

TALLIS  Excellent

I've tested and used more than a handfull of timers, some of them too basic (Timer HB) some of them too feature-laden (Apimac timer) and convoluted (iClock) and some of the just don't feel right (Timer) - I had settled with "Pester" whose user interface and quick way of doing what I want it to do seemed to work best for me.

What I like about Timer Utility is that you can loop the alarm sound until you have manually dissmissed it and that you can set different coundowns (and of course alarms) at the same time, triggering different actions / Alarms sounds e.g.

But ease of use and the price are taking the cake here.

Here's a suggestion: how about having the dock icon display the remaining countdown time?

TALLIS  Incredibly useful.

collect all the different Log-Ins and passwords from Firefox, Safari, Camino and have them available at any time in any browser (except Opera) Then turn off the potentially dangerous auto-fill password routine in Firefox.

Have different identities / Log-Ins available as well.

A great utility! Wouldn't want to miss it anymore.

***..

TALLIS  I'm in two minds about this app.

I have been using it for about 5 months now and it has replaced mailings in my personal workflow.

It does a better job than mailings in making sure that plain-text and rich text mails look the way you created them on every machine, every client and every platform.

It is also more powerful and gives you more flexibility in tailoring address groups, while with mailings you have to use the groups as they are set up in your address book.

There's tons of import possibilities for address lists for 1 st mac mailer. So far the good news.

On the other hand the program forces you to a certain workflow and handling that for the most part is not very intuitive and certainly not very Mac-like. It feels (and almost certainly is) like a windows-port.

Since version 2.7 it is at least possible to drag and drop an adress into a new group but there is no multiple selection - not even 'select' all. When you close a file it shuts down the program - very You cannot save within the text editing window - you have to leave editing mode to be able to save.

THere is still a conspicious "Purchase" button omnipresent in the tool bar (after having bougt and registered)

I cannot see any change or improvement in version 2.8. compared to 2.7.

What I find very strange is that both "Bulk Mail"and "Mac Mass Mailer" evidently are the same program published under a different name. Same price, same version number. What's the deal?

Well, to sum up: The program does what it promises to do and it does it well if you can live with being dictated to do things in the way and the order the program wants you to. Or if you don't mind windows behaviour and routines ...

All in all, I find 70 Dollars too much money for what you get.

(very slim report features)

PDF Merge

TALLIS  Why would anyone spend $ 14 for a functionality that comes with Apple's Preview for free and with complete ease - that's just beyond me ...

And if somebody doesn't like the workflow with that, there is still the freeware product "Combine PDFs" by Christian Schmitz.

FULMAR2  Thanks for your review. The answer to your question - "why would you pay for this feature..." is because this functionality does not come with 10.4 tiger. If you want to combine PDF files in tiger, you need to download some 3rd Party PDF combining software. There are limited trial versions like PDF lab and PDF combine, but once the trial period expires, you must pay $30. So, your alternatives are upgrade to Leopard, or try any one of these free trials (including PDF Merge, which is less expensive than any of the aforementioned options).

TALLIS  iAdressX does work with Leopard on an PowerPC but it doesn't work with Leopard on an IntelMac.

Too bad - my favourite 'can't-live-without'!
