Mac DVDRipper Pro

TAIPAN2008  I always used Ripit - which overall I can't complain of - to backup my son's dvd collection but lately it failed (corrupted file) with some Winnie the Pooh dvd. I downloaded Mac DVDRipper Pro and it flawlessy worked. Bought right away trhough the MU promo.

TAIPAN2008  Here's my workflow:

-Insert the original legally owned dvd and, after launching Ripit, drag and drop the DVD icon in Ripit and then I choose to rip it. At the end of the process you get a .dvdmedia file.

- Open the "get info" option for such a file and change the extension of the file erasing the .dvdmedia extension. At this point, after confirming you want to change the extension, you get a folder with a Video_TS folder inside.

-Launch DVD Remaster Pro and choose "burn a Video_TS folder" from its menu

-Insert a blank DVD (-R or -R DL depending of the size of the video) and burn it

- You will get a DVD playable in all modern DVD standalone sets

As said I am not a techno geek so please don't ask me how it works and things like that. This is just the way I use it and it works flawlessy for me :)

RipIt

TAIPAN2008  I am not a techno geek and I tried to backup my son’s DVD collection (legally owned) for so long…all application I tried (freeware and not, Mac and windows) were quite cumbersome, at least to me. RipIt is so easy that is not even funny…after three days of trial I bought it and it’s probably the best app I own. In order to recompress and burn I use it along with DVDremaster Pro or Toast 7

EASER  What's the size of the file you ripped? What's the capacity of the DVD you're burning it to? I've found that I typically need to also use DVD2one in order to shrink the ripped file to a burnable size. (There are other programs besides DVD2one; that's just the one I use. I'm not attempting to promote.) This is not a limitation of RipIt. Even Mac the Ripper didn't shrink the files. And if you read the RipIt promotional information, it only ever suggests you can rip DVDs in order to view them on your hard drive (such as with DVD Player). That's its intended, stated purpose; so I don't think they're trying to be deceptive about anything. I've found them to be very responsive and straightforward. The end result is that you may need to acquire additional software to accomplish your objectives.

PDF Shrink

****.

TAIPAN2008  I scanned some docs and, after merging them with Preview, I got an insane 11 Mb pdf file.

I checked the web looking for compress solutions but all suggestions didn't work fine for me (not enough reduction or bad output quality).

I tried PDFshrink and it worked exactly how I needed. A little bit pricey (here's way 4 stars and not 5) but it does exactly what it should do
