Type: TroubleshootingDate: 3 Jul 2008 15:22Upon going to the developers website to look for an Aftersurf update, it says "sorry, no application support anymore". I guess another irresponsible software developer has, in effect, spit in the faces of his customers.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 Jun 2008 17:03While the developer is actively pushing his CopyPaste Pro, some of his other apps languish untouched.
I've been using iClock for some time and have experienced several glitches with it. It hasn't been upgraded in about 2 years. My inquiries regarding that have gone without a reply.
At least I'd like to know whether or not iClock has been abandoned. For some of his customers at least, including CopyPaste customers, the courtesy of a reply from him is too much to ask it would seem.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 Jun 2008 02:10I've been using MacScan since I purchased it over a year ago as a MU promo for $12.95 and have had no problems whatsoever with it, no crashes nor even a hint of dyspepsia. MacScan has always run smoothly and easily for me.
True, it's never found any cooties, but then I'm pretty careful about what cookies my browsers allow and have my browsers set to delete cookies at session's end.
In Safari, I use PithHelmet to block all cookies from the likes of Doubleclick and all similar ilk. And then I purge all other cookies at session's end using Safari's "Reset" feature.
At its current price of $30, though, I don't think that I'd purchase MacScan ....it is a bit steep imho.

Type: ReviewDate: 9 Jun 2008 22:39This has got to be the crème de la crème of OS maintenance apps; it's the work of an absolute master.
It's sophistication, elegance and total stability just blows me away each time I use it. It just doesn't get better than this,.
Marcel Bresink, TTS's developer is a genius, and TTS is true perfection in the high art of German craftsmanship at its finest.
Its very modest cost is hard to believe considering the enormous amount of work that must have gone into creating this gem.

Type: CommentsDate: 2 Jun 2008 12:45I'd have to agree with many other reviewers here that Picture Switcher is GROSSLY OVERPRICED at $30.
It's just an app to change desktop pictures, after all.
True, it's really nicely featured and works well but it's still JUST a desktop picture changer.
I'd pay $10 for it but NOT any more than that.
So, I can live happily without it....and I will.

Type: ReviewDate: 1 Jun 2008 13:07Well, iTube really rocks! It's a pleasure use, it's smooth and it's stable....I'm so pleased with it.
I have a really good feeling about this developer, Joris Vervuurt; he's demonstrated that he's sharp, highly motivated to do excellent work, very attentive to details and very responsive to user input, all the earmarks of a real pro. I predict great things for him. More software developers should be as good as he is.

Type: CommentsDate: 1 Jun 2008 09:57I neglected to include an important criticism of the trial version.
While the download allows one a trial period of 14 days, which is quite reasonable, in ADDITION to that one is allowed a MAXIMUM of just five uses during the 14 day period, after which Changes becomes unusable.
Now that really STINKS in a big way!
The iChing is something that one can use throughout a lifetime, an infinite number of times, without losing its value in the slightest.
The 5 use limit is absolutely bizarre! What is the developer's rationale for doing that??? Perhaps he/she thinks that one will be less inclined to purchase Changes if it's used freely during the 14 day period? It's just absurd!
![]()
Type: ReviewDate: 1 Jun 2008 07:38While it's pretty user friendly and easy to use, and it's accessible commentary is from R.L. Wing's "iChing Workbook"...a $23 book (you can get for less used, on Amazon for example), Change's pricepoint at $39 IS rather high, imho. I'd say $25 would be about right for it.
For the iChing aficionado, worth looking into is the software program "The iChing Connexion X 3.3.1": http://www.mindsports.net/I_Ching_Connexion/ThinkCVersion/
Now, it's much more complex and less user friendly than Changes, it uses the James Legge (19th century Sinologist) iChing translation...hardly intuitive nor all that easily accessible, and it hasn't been updated since it's release nearly 4 years ago, but it's still quite interesting.

Type: CommentsDate: 31 May 2008 17:14Oops! I meant the above reply for NYCMAC's problem, below, not yours....sorry.
Btw, I've downloaded both .mpv4 files as well as .flv files using iTubeX 2.51 and have not experienced the issues that you describe.
I've got a broadband connection and the downloads are smooth and reasonably fast.
Both files then play without problems, for me, using VLC Media Player.
Possibly your problem is a result of your slow internet connection.
![]()
Type: Hint/TipDate: 31 May 2008 15:54There's a possibility that your download problem could be browser related, for some reason. You might try downloading using different browsers.
While I had no problem downloading iTubeX 2.51, I did try downloading it with Safari 3.3.1, Firefox 2.0.0.14, Camino 1.6.1, Opera 9.50.4789, Flock 1.2b and iCab 4.4.1....all latest versions. I couldn't get a download with iCab, but no problem with the others.

Type: ReviewDate: 22 May 2008 14:19I've used Internet Cleanup over the years through several versions (first Aladdin owned it, then Allume and now Smith-Micro) but eventually abandoned it in disgust due to endless problems with it.
When IC 5.0 became available, I decided to give it another try thinking, "maybe Smith-Micro finally got Internet Cleanup together".......one could hope, no?
Alas, no joy...sigh.
Internet Cleanup 5.0 caused my Mac to freeze, again and again; so I trashed the diabolical thing and requested my money back, which, to Smith-Micro's credit, was granted promptly and without issue.

Type: CommentsDate: 15 May 2008 12:24This is a really well designed, nifty tool for script writing, quite innovative and intelligently put together. I could really get into using it, but $200?! Jesus!
It's just too out of reach for my wallet and, I'll wager,
for many other folks who would otherwise go for it were it at a sane, realistic price.
Even if it were offered as a MacUpdate Promo, I can't imagine it going for less than 50% off, which is still quite expensive.
Well, maybe Movie Outline's price point was, in fact, intentionally set to keep out the riffraff such as myself, and attract only the Porsche driving, coke sniffing elite.
$200! My God!

Type: CommentsDate: 14 May 2008 11:39Well, I'm neither rich nor easily pleased but G-Force does put a smile on my face while Milkdrop doesn't. I saw Milkdrop on a friends PC and wasn't really impressed.
I do think that G-Force is more elegant and sophisticated.
I will agree, though, that the $15 yearly fee for upgrades is rather greedy and disgusting of the developer, especially since, as you pointed out, G-Force hasn't really progressed all THAT much over the past few years, at least not enough to really justify the annual $15.
Dunno, yet, but I may just stop paying the fee.
But the enjoyment that I've gotten and still get from G-Force has made the overall cost, so far, worthwhile.
If you're not "jazzed" by G-Force and prefer Milkdrop, fine....people have different tastes.

Type: CommentsDate: 10 May 2008 12:43I stand by my criticism of Netshade... and it's developer who, I believe, has demonstrated a rather large degree of irresponsibility over the past several years in his handling of Netshade's issues.

Type: CommentsDate: 30 Apr 2008 22:20G-Force is much more than "just a visualizer", it's a device that creates constantly unfolding images of such incredible beauty, breathtaking elegance and mind boggling sophistication that one's esthetic sensibilities are brought to orgasm again and again.
There is nothing out there like it, absolutely nothing.
Images can be saved to savor again and again with just the touch of a key on one's keyboard.
And, of course, it's a luscious compliment to your music listening enjoyment.
The $20 (Gold version) or $30 (Platinum version - with additional features), and optionally, a $15 yearly fee for all updates....which are frequent, is money well spent, imo, considering the unending pleasure and enjoyment it provides.

Type: ReviewDate: 8 Apr 2008 05:44I've paid for and used Netshade versions 1 and 2 in past years and found it and the developer to be most unreliable. I've been testing Netshade 3, trial version, for some time and found it's reliability, too, to be extremely uneven.
I've monitored Netshade's reliability with BwanaDik, a free app that shows one's IP address and, usually, Netshade appears to work reasonably well when the developer first brings a new version to Macupdate and then becomes less and less reliable over the following months until there are no working public proxies available anymore. The few "best" (most secure) proxies are the first to become unavailable, then the "better" (second tier) ones become unusable and finally none of them eventually are usable. Repeated emails to the developer about that issue went unanswered.
And often, while there are still a few public proxies available, I've found that my own IP address is NOT hidden at all even though, according to Netshade, it is. And checking whether or not my IP address is shown on a web site which displays the IP address of the user confirmed that Netshade wasn't doing it's job.
I had purchased an update to Netshade 3 some time ago but did not receive my registration number. Repeated emails to Mr. Trayner, the developer, went unanswered. After several weeks and no registration number and no response, I got my payment back through my bank.
Based on my experiences with Netshade and the developer, I would NOT purchase Netshade.
If you use Netshade without some other way of monitoring your IP address you will be using it with a false sense of security. Netshade is NOT dependable or reliable. Nor is the developer.

Type: CommentsDate: 6 Dec 2007 13:07"Why call Intego greedy bastards?"
Originally, they didn't charge for definition updates. Then, they began charging $19.95 yearly for them. But that wasn't enough for them, so they increased it to $29.95 yearly.
That, in ADDITION to charging the rather outrageous price of $69.95 for NetBarrier.
I'd say that makes them greedy bastards.

Type: Hint/TipDate: 30 Nov 2007 04:03If you're experiencing MacJournal crashing with OS 10.4.11, be advised that 10.4.11 has been causing various problems for people, and not just with MacJournal.
I, for one, had installed 10.4.11, experienced various crashes and other problems and then reverted back to 10.4.9 which, for me, is quite stable.
If your experiencing crashes with 10.4.11, try reverting back to at least 10.4.10. But 10.4.9 seems to be the least flaky.

After I posted my problem w/10.4.11 update at Apple Discussion forum, someone suggested reinstalling it using the combo....which I did, but my problems remained(the app "iClock"s time/date just wouldn't appear in my menu bar, nor would Tiger's own time/date readout or Fast User Switching{or the app "WinSwitch"}. These issues resolved when I went back to OS 10.4.9.
Why some problems occur with some folks and not with others, after updates, is too often due to mysterious anomalies know only to Satan herself....and she
ain't tellin'.
But, yeah, using combo updates rather than going via Software Update probably lessens the chances of grief.

Well, a few days ago, I updated from 10.4.9 to 10.4.11 and had some problems which I couldn't resolve, so I reverted back to 10.4.9. Everything's back to normal since then.
On the Apple Discussions forum there are numerous postings by folks who are having problems with 10.4.11. In fact, there were problems with the 10.4.10 update, as well.
It seems that 10.4.9 was the last Tiger version that worked smoothly for most people.

Type: CommentsDate: 22 Nov 2007 11:12It's possible that one's OS and version thereof is a major factor in whether or not folks experience some grief with v3.01b.
I'm running Tiger v10.4.9.

Type: CommentsDate: 22 Nov 2007 10:59Interesting how folks' experiences with v3.0b1 differ so widely.
I installed this over v2.0.0.9 on my 17" Powerbook and, so far, have really had no problems. In fact, 3.0b1 seems faster than 2.0.0.9, which I found to be rather sluggish.
I, initially, didn't get my 46 or so bookmarks which were in 2.0.0.9's Bookmark Bar, although my Bookmarks Menu's 60 bookmarks were transferred over sucessfully, but I've got the app "Bookit" which allows me to synchronize bookmarks between browsers and, by using Bookit, was able to get my missing bookmarks easily installed into Firefox 3.01b.
So, currently, everything's copasetic!

Type: CommentsDate: 21 Nov 2007 05:35AppZapper is not totally reliable. As I have found after using AppZapper for a while, now, it will NOT always remove every last file of all apps.
After using AppZapper, I've always rechecked with EasyFind (available here at MacUpdate) to see if all files of my deleted app have, in fact, been removed, and have found that a fair amount of time they have not.
But, then, there are no application deleting apps currently available, that I can find, that are totally reliable.
Your best bet would be to just use EasyFind to delete your applications and their files.
It takes a bit longer than using AppZapper but EasyFind IS about as good as it gets for locating/deleting files. Yes, it's that good....and it's free, too.

Type: CommentsDate: 12 Nov 2007 16:36My experience duplicates MarkOh's, above.
A while back, I uninstalled NetBarrier using Intego's own uninstaller. I then was unable to reactivate OS X's firewall; I kept getting the notice that another firewall was in use.
I tried to find and remove every last Intego file in my system using the app "Easy Find", but even when no Intego or NetBarrier files could be located my system's own firewall still couldn't be activated.
Only when I did a system reinstall could my OS's firewall be used again.
At any rate, I do think Intego's apps are grossly overpriced, and their egregious policy of charging $30 a year for their Trojan definition updates just plain stinks. Greedy bastards!
I'll never purchase/use Netbarrier again, nor any of Intego's products for that matter.

Type: CommentsDate: 10 Oct 2007 10:55Schreiberling seems ok at first glance.....it IS fairly simple, although whether or not it's unique enough or really capable of facilitating a writers flow of words unencumbered any better than other writing apps out there might be debatable.
The developer's overall philosophy, though, in offering his extremely reasonably priced software is commendable. Check out his other other apps.....they're quite nifty.
Oh, and the "professional writer", below, so arrogant and self important, dour and anal, takes issue with the "ad hominem blowhard huffery....all too common round here", does he? Well, perhaps his own pedantic flatulating is considered good form within his own pretentious, tight-sphinctered circles, but his flatus smells just as foul as anyone else's here.

Type: ReviewDate: 23 Jul 2007 01:34While initially, Turret Wars is great fun, it slowly becomes a progressively frustrating and rather demoralizing experience. To do well, you must hit targets with pinpoint accuracy in a short amount of time. To do that with any semblance of expertise requires, literally, many hundreds of hours of play. The mastery curve is very, very steep...it's simple to learn but very, very hard to play it well.
The beginners level is very difficult, the intermediate level is horrendous, the advanced level is just impossible and the master's level is, well, absurd.
This game will kick your ass hard, over and over and over again. It's definitely not for everyone.
The game's design is quite sophisticated and the graphics are very well done.
I'm not sorry that I purchased it, though.

Type: ReviewDate: 20 May 2007 20:28The trial version is severely crippled, barely scratching the surface of the various styles. Why not allow the prospective purchaser to experience the full version for a few days instead?
My sense is that this app doesn't explore the full range of Flamenco styles, but I guess I'll never know unless I purchase it first, something that I'm unwilling to do given the trial version's limitations.
And at 24.50 Euros, or about $33 US, I'd say that it's terribly overpriced.

Type: ReviewDate: 31 Mar 2007 21:32This is a reasonably well done rendition of Tetris, with deficiencies that make it rather crippled.
As the previous reviewer pointed out, there's no undo function...important when accidentally placing a falling tile in the wrong space.
There's no selection for difficulty level, the tiles fall at just one speed, which is most often too fast for proper placement when the stack of tiles nears the top of the playing area.
And there doesn't seem to be a way to accurately keep record of your score.
The high scores of players around the world, reaching into the upper hundred thousands, just isn't believable; especially when important functions like those mentioned above are not available.

Type: ReviewDate: 30 Mar 2007 13:34Only slightly interesting, far from engrossing.
Graphics are rather mediocre....sort of childish in a cutsypoo kinda way but then maybe this game is designed for children.
Musical background is banal, insipid.
Another overpriced game; many games seem to go for $19.95, but then few, IMHO, are worthy of that price.
The demo version allows one to play the first four games....and then ya gotta buy it to continue. Well, after playing them, I just shrugged my shoulders, yawned, and said to myself, "Eh, so what; I'd rather do something more interesting", and moved on.

Type: ReviewDate: 11 Mar 2007 15:01The game is set to fire the puck at you very fast; there's no way to vary the speed. It's nearly impossible to beat, I was trounced every single time.
The "opponent" virtually never misses returning your shot.
In this game, the cards are stacked against you regardless of how hard you try.
The more I played, the more demoralized I got. I eventually thought, "what's the point of continuing, this just isn't fun", and trashed the game.
The developers need to incorporate several difficulty levels, perhaps programming the game to "sense" the player's level of expertise and accommodate itself to it, while still keeping the game a challenge.
As it stands now, one leaves the game with the feeling of having been relentlessly kicked in the stomach.... which might appeal to a masochist, I guess.

Type: ReviewDate: 8 Mar 2007 16:08Coming up with this little turkey was probably a school assignment for junior high students.
Stupid, insipid, mindless, pointless,
boring. It's free but that's still too expensive.

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Mar 2007 13:17AfterSurf does NOT seem to delete information securely.....it seems to do only a simple delete, which means that deleted info can be recovered. That's good enough for some folks but definitely NOT good enough for many others.
A secure delete means that info is overwritten at least seven times.
Lack of an efficient secure delete function is a BIG shortcoming in AfterSurf.

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Mar 2007 12:15I'd say, if you purchase Lotto Sorcerer believing that it'll give you an advantage when playing Lotto, than you are deluded.
It's all pure chance, regardless of any patterns that may seem to show when factoring all previous Lotto numbers.
The only one who stands to "win" with Lotto Sorcerer is it's developer, when you purchase this app.
Still think there's some "system" out there that'll give you an advantage"? Hmmm? Well, dream on, my friend, dream on.....

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Mar 2007 12:30Works just fine on my Powerbook running OS 10.4.8. Cool app! Could be quite useful for hiding/emailing "priveleged information". Probably wouldn't work with a long message, though, unless the image is very large.
For emailing hidden info, the recipient would need to have a copy of PicSecret, too, for decryption.
An unaware party viewing the image wouldn't likely have a clue that it contains a message. Sweet....two thumbs up!

Type: ReviewDate: 3 Mar 2007 11:51This IS about as good as it gets for arcade style games. Game play that holds your interest and keeps you coming back for more.
Outstanding graphics and quality musical background.
The overall game design seems quite sophisticated; a great deal of work is likely to have been put into its creation.
The developers, I think, are quite gifted....they really know what they're doing.
There are not all that many games out there that are worth the $20 that seems to be the going rate, but Luxor 2 IS worth the price of admission!

Type: ReviewDate: 3 Mar 2007 11:29Sorta like shootin' fish is a barrel......gets boring pretty quick. I lost interest after playing for just a few minutes. No real variation to the gameplay.
Not much "sizzle", either. Maybe kids might get into it, and young kids at that. And why do arcade/action game developers nearly always say their games are addictive when too often they're not?
Graphics and "music"(ha!) are a big yawn. IMO, this game reflects little creativity from the developers.
It's NOT worth $20, maybe $8 at most....and that's only if you think this is worth spending time with; I sure don't.
You can do better, LOTS better, if you want to spend $20 for a game.

Type: ReviewDate: 2 Mar 2007 10:00Very handy, very simple to use, and very efficient.
ScreenCaptureX IS eminently useful.
Would be nice if framing lines were included, perhaps as a user option, but this app is pretty sweet nonetheless.
Two thumbs up.....of course!

Type: CommentsDate: 24 Feb 2007 11:33Simple and handy, can be used together with Volume Slider, which offers a size configurable mute button for one's desktop.
One issue, though. When the iTunes Volume controller is on one's desktop, there appears to be no way to close it....it's always there, can't even hide it.
When iTunes is closed, iTV still remains on the desktop. It's usable only with iTunes, unlike Volume Slider which works with any sound source.
Double clicking on the iTV controller launches iTunes....nice. But the ability for hiding/closing the iTV controller needs to included.

Well, developer, thanks for putting that warning right at the top of your app description, so that no one can miss it.
You, obviously, have no confidence in the safety of Do 0.1. If you don't, then I won't either. Do 0.1 must, indeed, be treacherous, so I'll just leave this app alone and NOT try it out.
Thanks again for the warning!

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Feb 2007 10:30Unless I'm missing something, InfoValet can't be used unless one purchases a license. Soon after launch, the "enter license" "purchase license" window appears and can't be closed. I guess there's no trial period available.
I was not able to quit InfoValet normally, I had to force quit it.
My brief experience in attempting to try this app was a total bummer.
If, as others have stated, most features are available using other apps, including some that are free, why would anyone want to buy, let alone use InfoValet?
At $50, this app is absurdly overpriced.

Type: CommentsDate: 11 Feb 2007 09:43I've installed both and, other than different UIs, they seem to have identical functions/features
But I'm not sure if the updates to IceClean are duplicated in Politzei, probably not. Hmmmm.

Type: CommentsDate: 7 Feb 2007 20:15You CAN reduce the size of the interface by clicking the "+" in the interface menu bar. The interface then actually becomes smaller than the iTunes EQ window.

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Dec 2006 20:45Well, does charging $9 to put a CD in an envelope and send it via 1st class mail mean that they're greedy? Don't be ridiculous.
It just means that Alsoft, ummm......has a HUGE, INSATIABLE appetite for money, that's all. LOL!!!

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Dec 2006 10:30Just installed AKVIS Coloriage but can't launch it. I'm running OS 10.3.9, the stated minimum OS requirement. What's up with that???
