KEVINBW MacUpdate is a listing for BitWise Personal, which is free for personal use and it doesn't have any different architecture than any other major IM system. On the Professional side (which seems to be what your comment is about), you'd be surprised how many smaller companies don't have the resources to host their own IM server. On a per-user basis, the cost is actually better than many services that you can buy. As for the security, it's no less secure than something you host yourself--data is sent P2P and so, in an office setting, the data doesn't leave the LAN, just like having your own server. It's certainly not the right solution for large companies (several hundred employees or more), but that doesn't make it worthless. Thanks for your comments and listening! (Version 1.7b2) |
