Wii Transfer | Jan 23 2009 |
STRONGMANTIM The quality of the videos is not the best. The application converts the your to a Flash video, which is playable in the Opera-based browser on the Wii. The only video I have converted is a video slideshow, so I can't tell exactly how good the conversion quality is. If I had to guess, I would say that it is about 15 frames per second. There are multiple levels of quality you can convert videos using. I believe I used the best setting. I could not get the video conversion to work when sending the video to a SD card. I will use the music player the most often. It finds your iTunes library and streams it to the Wii browser with what I am assuming is Flash. If iTunes is open on the Mac, it will display the album art. I was really really impressed with the music feature. I did not use the photo part of the application yet, but look forward to seeing what it can do. (Version 2.6.1)

Sandvox | May 11 2006 |
STRONGMANTIM Sandvox is a pretty good app, but not the most intuitive or stable out there. I realize it's beta and hence the instability. I've been using it since the first public beta and have been working with a developer or two in order to resolve some particular bugs. The developers are very active and really working hard to get rid of all the remaining bugs. (Version 1.0b17)

STRONGMANTIM Brilliant! Brilliant brilliant! Very intuitive and easy to use. It's a very simple app, but anyone can use it immediately. I have one side of my family in the app within 10 minutes. Awesome program! (Great sample family, too!) One suggestion is to allow vertical organization instead of only horizontal. (Version 1.0)

STRONGMANTIM The old YP is a joke compared to this! Each of the YP apps (or whatever they were called) cost a significant amount of money and were never ported to OS X. My opinion? Who needs 'em?! I've been using it since 1.0 and can't imagine using anything else. Keep up the awesome work Praeter! (Version 5.1)

STRONGMANTIM In the mean time, there are a couple utilities like you are describing that I have used in the past: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12326 (Not the most intuitive interface, but works well with Tiger) http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13227 (More user-friendly, but uses old brushed metal. No updates in over a year) (Version 1.4)

STRONGMANTIM As a user of both, I think that XGestures and CocoaGestures are very similar. I was a huge CocoaGestures junkie and swore it was the only one I would use, but once they stopped developing it (I believe the last update was in Autumn 2003), I became a huge XGestures junkie. And even if CocoaGestures released an update, there's no way I would go back to it. XGestures and its developer have impressed me enough that there's no going back. (Version 1.4)

STRONGMANTIM Open System Preferences, go to Sharing, and there is an entry for Apple Remote Desktop. Turn it on and you can connect with any VNC client (or Apple's Remote Desktop... which _is_ a pay-for application). I've used OSXvnc since ever since it has been around, but stopped using it once ARD server became integrated with the system. In my opinion, OSXvnc will have to show some major benefit over ARD if it is going to survive. (Version 1.61)

PrintFinder | Mar 26 2005 |
STRONGMANTIM Oooh! Great stuff! I like this a lot. I've been missing folder lists ever since I started using OS X, but this fills that need. The output is a clean, orderly text file that lists as much or as little as you like. Just enter the path of the folder you want printed (I use the contextual menu Copy Path), set the output file name, set any filters, and hit return. The file quickly shows up on your Desktop. SLICK! I entered "/" (the very top of the hard drive) into PrintFinder and selected to include sub-folders and it eventually created an entire listing of my whole boot drive! 21MB, no less! It took a minute or two, but eventually a massive file opened up and listed everything from the Finder. Absolutely amazing! (Version 2.0.3)

STRONGMANTIM This installer creates a folder in /Library/StartupItems and installs a handful of files. I don't know if it installed things anywhere else. It has tried connecting to five different IPs, though I do not know what info they are sending/receiving. ANONYMOUS Dijjer installs files in /Library/StartupItems/Dijjer and /usr/local/dijjer. To uninstall, run: sudo /Library/StartupItems/Dijjer/Dijjer stop Then get the OSXGNU uninstaller from http://www.osxgnu.org/software/Utils/OSXGNU/ and use it to remove the Dijjer package. We are working on a more convenient uninstallation mechanism (Version 0098)

Dijjer | Feb 22 2005 |
I'm not downloading anything yet my cache is still growing, why? One of Dijjer's benefits is its "pre-emptive caching". This means that even users not actively downloading files from Dijjer will still contribute back to the Dijjer network, improving Dijjer's performance for everyone. (Version 0098)

STRONGMANTIM Absolutely brilliant! I registered with the 1.0 version and the 1.1 is even better! I was a long time user of CocoaGestures and I loved it. I began using nothing but Cocoa apps just so I could gesture, even though there may have been a Carbon app (like Firefox vs. Camino) that could have done the job better. Now, I am free to use any app I want! Java apps, Cocoa, Carbon, even X11! I can't get enough of this app and have had no problems with it... especially not with the OS9-style lockups that another user claims can happen. I didn't think it would be possible to add something like closing a background window with a gesture, but this author did it! Thank you so much for the awesome gift you have given the OS X community. I can't wait to see this featured at WWDC by Phil Shiller! (Version 1.1)

Camino | Aug 28 2004 |
STRONGMANTIM Unlike one of the reviewers below, 0.8.1 has noticibly sped up for me. Start-up, keychain access, and rendering are all improved over the last nightly I had downloaded (it had been a while). I think Camino is a very valid and relevant project. Firefox runs terribly slowly on my G4 450, plus Camino is cocoa. It allows me to use CocoaGestures, which Firefox, Mozilla, IE, etc. do not. If Firefox ran faster for me, I would surely use it (assuming the mouse gestures for it would also see a speed improvement), since I use it at work on their PCs and love it. I am personally impressed with the progress Camino has made. Though the development has slowed quite a bit since Safari and Firefox have emerged, Camino still holds its own in terms of speed, stability, and features. In my mind, Camino is the best Mac browser there is. (Version 0.8.1)

STRONGMANTIM Lots of useful stuff here. If I could pick and choose what apps I want, maybe I would bite. Other (read: free) utilities do the same things, but may take up more disk space, which this author is quick to point out. I would rather SpamStopper (by RailheadDesign) take up 800k more on my hard drive than have S3 (from this guy) take up $44 dollars of my money. STRONGMANTIM A great product to supplement OSX's Dock. Here is what I do: Pin OSX's Dock to the bottom right corner, and pin A-Dock to the bottom left corner. OSX's Dock only shows the currently running apps and the trash, while A-Dock shows all of my most used apps so I can launch them quickly. OSX's Dock doesn't allow for "muscle memory" since it is constantly moving as more applications are opened. A-Dock allows you to train your hand, wrist, and eye muscles to consistantly know where everything is all the time. A-Dock should be implemented into OSX. Awesome add-on! (Version 0.9.1)
