STEVE4656 I saw the consistently glowing reviews here for Launchbar so I decide to try it. All that happens is grey bar on the screen, with drop down menus. So what? What does it actually do that is so great? (Version 5.0rc3)

MATHIAS RHEIN Actually, what You have there is the ultimate no-frills file manager- try typing in "pag" and pressing enter and left arrow- you will get a list of all the recently opened files with pages WITHOUT OPENING PAGES... this is just the kickoff, check out the help to learn more tricks You will not want to live without! FileMaker Pro | May 31 2007 |
STEVE4656 This programme is OK if you stick with the included templates, but woe betide you if you decide to modify a template or, even more stupidly, decide to create your own. Small things such as fields that do not snap to a grid and uncontrollable line weights and field borders, to the arcane method of creating and modifying tables make this software an extremely effective method of wasting enormous amounts of time. What about the built in 'Help' you may ask. Indeed what about it, 'unhelpful' is the most polite adjective that springs to mind, made worse with generous use of vague, unexplained jargon. Stomps off into the distance spitting feathers......... (Version 8.5)

STEVE4656 I have tried a number of programmes to move iPod song to a mac and have been frustrated by complicated or vague instructions or, things just not working as promised. I tried this programme and it is perfect for me, simple to use, efficient and effective. Best of all, the contents of both the iPod and iTunes appear within the same overall window, and individual songs and/or playlists can be simply dragged from the iPod to the iTunes section of the window. Senuti | Mar 9 2007 |
STEVE4656 The instructions in "Senuti help" are tricky to understand right away and need several readings because of the use of double negatives. Simple back-ups of songs from and iPod to a mac works fine, but it will not transfer songs directly into iTunes. The "Senuti help" suggests songs can be transferred into iTunes by drag-and-drop of individual songs or, playlists. I wish it were so, absolutely nothing happened for me. After hours of trial and error, I can only recommend this software if you need to make a simple back-up of songs on an iPod. Do not expect to transfer songs straight into iTunes.

COUGARBLUE Great program and FREE Having better step by step would be great. I have used Senuti a dozen times, it's a life saving and more trustworthy than the shareware programs that do the same thing. No reports of lost song files with Senuti, which sets it alone. Big problem, in using the program I didn't lose any of 6800 songs, but I was never able to recover a set of playlists. I checked in all the right preferences yet nothing. Please give out better directions, esp. how to change iTunes preferences to stop auto synch as soon as you plug in the iPod, or how to use an iPod not already linked to the computer you are using. Fix these problems or my problems with your poor directions, put out a 1.0 version, and even charge a reasonable fee for your efforts, but please help us out. (Version 0.33)

CreateTorrent Widget | Mar 3 2007 |
STEVE4656 This would be a great idea, if it worked. The widget installed OK, but nothing happens when a file is dragged over the widget - what am I missing here? (Version 1.0)

Parallels Desktop | Dec 4 2006 |
STEVE4656 Since my previous negative experiences, I have tried again. The VM installation process will only recognise XP and Vista, although the drop down menus show W2000 it is not possible to select. I have a perfectly working W2000 in Virtual PC, and have also tried the Parallels Tansporter programme. It does recognise the VirtualPC installation of W2000, but always aborts the process. I have tried a previous installation of Parallels, which has been activated. This new version is supposedly an 'upgrade'. When the upgrade is completed, I am told to activate it. Having to buy a second activation key adds insult to injury. I remain steadfastly unimpressed with Parallels, and do not understand the preponderance of positive comments on this this site. MIXEL To be fair you're just one of a few people who seems to have problems - just because you do doesn't mean anyone else is going to.. It works beautifully for me with XP, so I don't know why I'd write anything but a positive comment. :) (Version 2.5.3036)

Parallels Desktop | Dec 21 2006 |
STEVEN R. LOOMIS I've used Parallels quite heavily since prerelease days, it has worked well with just about every OS I throw at it - XP, solaris, redhat linux, OLPC ( one laptop per child), plan9, .. Have you tried a fresh install of W2000? Perhaps your installation has some strangeness that's VPC specific. (Version 2.5.3094)

Parallels Desktop | Dec 21 2006 |
ZETSURIN I have used Parallels pretty much daily since purchase (during the very initial beta phase). Total customer satisfaction in this household. I do all my dev work under Windows 2000 and fire up XP for compatability testing. No issues to mention at all. (Version 2.5.3094)

Parallels Desktop | Dec 2 2006 |
STEVE4656 It is confusing that the opening Parallels window appears to show a Windows environment already installed. On trying to instal both Windows 2000 and XP, I experience a system freeze and have to restart. I am surprised it is as buggy as this for me, in the face of so many positive reviews here. May try again, but not soon. (Version 2.2.1970)

CrossOver Mac | Nov 30 2006 |
STEVE4656 Seemed to install OK on a Macbook C2D with 2gig of ram. After installing windows software, which CrossOver recognised OK, the software was nowhere to be found..... So, no use to me at the moment. (Version 6.0b3a)

PTHPasteboard | Oct 25 2006 |
STEVE4656 bizarre behaviour in Tiger, not possible to delete all items from the Pasteboard, multiple copies of items end up in the Pasteboard window, seems to paste items at random, confusing preference pane; must be me as the consensus here is very positive (Version 4.0b3)

SuperDuper! | Oct 18 2006 |
STEVE4656 I can see from the reviews that this software is well-liked. So, as a CarbonCopyCloner user I thought I would give SuperDuper a try to compare it. While CCC makes a clone in less than an hour to copy my system to an external hard drive, SuperDuper took over 3 and half hours. It may work, be stable, be easy to use etc and therefore get high marks using this grading system, but it is very slooooooooow. (Version 2.1.3)

DNANIAN Steve -- something weird was going on here. SuperDuper! is nearly always faster -- or at least as fast -- as CCC. Please drop us a line at the support email address and I'll be happy to help. (Version 2.1.3)

mlMac | Nov 2 2004 |
STEVE I have had reasonably good, if slow, results with earlier versions of mlmac. This latest version appears to be a step backwards. For a day or so it seemed better and then, over a few hours, deteriorated to uselessness. It started to use enormous amounts of memory and cpu, and downloads reduced to a mere trickle, while upload speeds actually increased!! My pbook fans came on and ran constanly even at download speeds of less than 2kb and upload speeds of around 5kb. In addition, the response of mlmac features, and the Finder, became laggy. 'Frustrating' is the politest word that comes to mind. Luckily, xDonkey was able of take over the downloads. (Version 0.7.5)

PageSender | Jun 22 2004 |
STEVE K I was hoping to improve on Panther faxing, but just cannot get Page Sender to work. Faxes stay "on hold" and never get sent no matter how I check and re-check the settings. Uninstalling leaves files behind that seem to intefere with other fax programmes, so do a manual search if you ever decide to ditch it. Not a happy experience, at least Panther faxing worked albeit crudely. (Version 3.2)
