I've been using Carbon Emacs since March 2006 and to me this is by far the best emacs port to OS X. Updates are frequent and current. Kudos to the developer!! |

I've been using Desktop Manager for the last 2 years on my PowerPC G5. I recently upgraded to the intel Mac Pro and found that Desktop Manager no longer works. The 0.6 stream is still under development so I naturally turned to VirtueDesktops. Overall, the layout used by VirtueDesktops is similar to Desktop Manager. One thing I like is the ability to move between desktops using control keys. I typically use 3-4 desktops at any time and this makes it a breeze to move back and forth rapidly. Applications are stuck to desktops in this release. So if you have a terminal window open in Main and you want to open a terminal window in Mail you are whisked over to Main. This is frustrating and obviously needs to be fixed. Another point of concern is that the developer is not adopting the standard practice of maintaining a stable release of the software. Instead, each release (from looking at the posts) seems to fix a latest bug, while introducing a new one. I would urge the developer to rethink this approach. Overall, very nice product. 4 stars (and not 5) because of instability. |

Fantastic piece of software. I switched over from Linux to OS-X about a year ago and dreamed about having a desktop manager this nice. The developer really should be praised for this excellent product! 5 stars. |
