SJHA I find Swift Publisher 2 to be a superb DTP programme. I have used it for various tasks including production of posters and of greetings cards and it is a joy to use. Its integration with ArtText is an excellent feature. And for me the programme has been rock solid. Highly recommended! (Version 2.3.2)

SJHA I use Bookpedia regularly to keep track of my books which are distributed among four different places. I have nothing but praise for this application. It is fast and stable, importing is quick and simple, and the programme is customisable to suit the user's preferences. A five-star product! (Version 4.5)

SJHA I didn't mean to sound unappreciative of your helpful comment. Indeed I think it was important to point Leopard users to the work-around that you mention since it does allow them to use Lilypond albeit in a somewhat roundabout way. I am just disappointed that one of my favourite programmes still does not have full Leopard compatibility. (Version 2.12.1-1)

SJHA Yes I am aware of this work-around. But that is what it is - just a work-around. And what concerns me is that it is now nearly 12 months since it was reported that Lilypond did not work under Leopard and we still have to use a work-around. (Version 2.12.1-1)

SJHA I am a great fan of Lilypond which produces beautiful music sheets. However I am concerned that the development of the Mac versions is becoming less than satisfactory. Firstly there is still no version of Lilypond that will run under Leopard. Secondly both the 2.11 and 2.12 versions produce error messages on my Macbook under OSX 10.4.11 - indeed I couldn't get version 2.12.1-1 to produce any output. I have had to revert to version 2.10.33-1 (Version 2.12.1-1)

DERHINDEMITH Unfortunately, no one (until recently) had the magical combination of ability and means (i.e., hardware) to create an OSX 10.5 compatible version. In these situations, one can usually ask for a refund and find a competitor product that does everything desired. Lilypond, however is free, so a refund is unnecessary, and all that remains is to find a competitor product that does everything desired. (Version 2.13.2-0)

Picasa Web Albums Uploaders | Oct 15 2008 |
SJHA This version looked more promising as a video upload seemed to go to completion. However during the completing upload process the following error message appeared:- [Line 1, Column 585, element gphoto:timestamp] Text content must be non-negative: -2082844800000 (status 400) Whatever this means, the result is that I still can't upload videos to my Picas web albums. Error NSURLErrorDomain -1" appears. Using the iPhoto plug-in the Upload option is dimmed if I select an .mp4 video. SJHA It is fast. But there is an annoying bug if you by mistake try to connect to the computer you are running the programme on - it seems to go into an unstoppable loop whereby it shows multiple copies of that machine's screen. (Version 0.96.16)

MUMUNOL What you call a loop is *natural* : if you get connected to your screen you are asking for displaying your screen in a window that is displaying your screen displaying your window that is displaying your screen displaying your window displaying your screen... This is not a bug this is like you being between two mirors. Try displaying a screen displaying something else than your screen and you will see that everything is fine !

JollysFastVNC | Apr 7 2008 |
ERICOB I don't think this is a "loop," I think it is infinite recursion. A result can be technically correct, but still be *incorrect* as far as product usability is concerned. If the result of requesting a VNC connection to the same computer that the request comes from can never be completed, I consider that allowing that IS a bug. (Version 0.96.16)

Papers | Nov 2 2007 |
SJHA With the new (1.5) version Papers steps into a class of its own for bibliographic management for biomedical researchers. There is really nothing else quite like it. It tightly integrates literature searching, pdf file down-loading, and pdf file display and organisation without the need for any other programme i.e. no web browser or pdf file viewer is needed. It abounds with thoughtful details - some are practical others, e.g. the superb splash screen, aesthetic. Papers ranks as one of the all-time-best Mac programmes. (Version 1.5)

Books | Sep 3 2007 |
SJHA Having earlier drawn attention to a problem I was experiencing whereby Books 3.1 was hanging on Quit, I can now report that I solved this by letting Onyx carry out its full suite of maintenance procedures on my MacBook. I don't know what it was that was critical but anyway Books 3.1 now functions perfectly for me. I must say that during the troubleshooting procedure I went through I had exemplary email support from the developer. Indeed I felt guilty that the problem turned out to be at my end rather than inherent in his programme. So I can now gladly rate Books 3.1 with 5 stars, both for the actual programme features and for the support available if one has a problem. (Version 3.1)

Papers | Mar 18 2007 |
SJHA Papers, even at this beta stage, is an excellent application. It combines within one programme the ability to organise references stored as PDF files; to read them (full-screen possible); and to search PubMed and import reference details. This tight integration makes for an efficient tool which I would regards as essential for all biomedical scientists who like to store reprints as PDF files. Although still not fully complete it is worth 4 stars at this stage; and when the planned additions for the final release are in place it will be a 5-star programme in my view (Version 1.0b3)

MACUPDATE ADMIN I just now finally successfully downloaded and mounted the .dmg. I used the link here at MacUpdate, for what it is worth. Your mileage may well vary. This sort of thing was pretty common ten years ago or more. Servers would often just quit on a download. The download speed would slowly drop and then, pow, the download would fail. Hardly ever see that anymore. (Version 2.5.3186)

SJHA This is a truly excellent application. I have been using it recently to print out some lead sheets with melody, chords and lyrics and it produces superb results. There is undoubtedly an initial effort required to get to grips with the syntax. It is a little like writing a computer programme in that one has to be completely accurate. But the time spent learning how to use Lilypond is amply repaid by the results. And the sheer extent of the complex nature of the scores it is possible to engrave is quite outstanding. That the programme is also free is amazing. (Version 2.9.29-1)
