SIBELIUS does it work on Snow Leopard? (it's absolutely brilliant on Tiger and Leopard) (Version 2.2)

SIBELIUS Works fine, and is quite useful for setting up instant access to a set of related apps - but it's not as discreet as it could be. The button that appears on the side of the screen is eminently practical but ruins the elegance of your osx. Overflow does the same job (but not for free) and, as a dock-based alternative, is both cleaner and simpler. (Version 2.1)

SIBELIUS I've got it now - visualiser was set to full screen, which is why the options button did not appear! (Version 1.0.8)

SIBELIUS No luck with that. Activating the visualiser with DockArt selected just brings up a black screen. I also tried iTunes Help, and found this > "with visualiser selected, click the options button if available". It wasn't. Looks like the skew effect only works with iTunes 7, but I guess I can live with that! (Version 1.0.8)

SIBELIUS Thanks Greg - but I'm running iTunes 6.0.4 and can't find any visualiser options, even after selecting Dockart! Any ideas? (Version 1.0.8)

SIBELIUS How did you make it skew? I can't see how to contact the developer via his site, nor any way to reach any preferences. Looks good in the dock though! (Version 1.0.8)

GREGW Make sure that DockArt is the selected visualizer plugin, and then choose the Visualizer Options menu item. (Specific locations of these vary from version to version of iTunes.) (Version 1.0.8)

GREGW It's been a while since I've seen iTunes 6, but I believe that the way to get at the visualizer options was to select the visualizer you wanted to configure and then actually activate the visualizer functionality. Once active, there was a button in the upper-right corner that would invoke the settings dialog. (Version 1.0.8)

GREGW "No luck with that. Activating the visualiser with DockArt selected just brings up a black screen." DockArt's "real" visualizer is only a black screen because all it does is change the icon. It's not really meant to be selected as your primary visualizer. "Looks like the skew effect only works with iTunes 7, ..." So you're saying that when you select DockArt as your visualizer and then activate the visualizer there's no button in the window that says "Options" or "Settings" or something like that? Something's very strange on your setup if that's the case; iTunes has supported plugin settings dialogs at least back into the 4.x era, and I believe much further. (DockArt got its first user pref about 2 months before iTunes 5 was released.) Here's a screen shot of iTunes 6: . What do you see in the upper-right corner in your copy of iTunes when DockArt is selected and the visualizer is turned on? (Version 1.0.8)

SIBELIUS A little gem - very quick and easy to use, with enough options to make it look pretty good too. Searches from the menubar seem much faster, simply because there's no need to find an open Safari window first. You can add as many search engines as you want - but you do need to follow the instructions exactly (which I didn't, at first). They're case sensitive. (Version 1.0.1)

SIBELIUS It's amazing how much visual appeal this adds to your dock, especially when you use it to personalise both iPhoto + Preview. Greatly exceeded expectations for me. The developer describes it as a beta, but it's worked flawlessly on my iBook (10.4.6) for months. Could it be better? I agree with the previous reviewer. I just wish iMovie was included in the options too. (Version 0.2)

Screenshot Plus Widget | Nov 10 2006 |
SIBELIUS Definitely the best screenshot tool of all - as well as the best widget around. Far superior to Apple's own Grab. It's quick, simple, takes up very little space and saves to all formats. I use it virtually every day and it works flawlessly - producing excellent quality shots. (I'm still running 10.4.6 - but my wife has 10.4.8 on her iBook + Screenshot Plus works perfectly for her too.) (Version 2.3)

SIBELIUS Great plug-in - so good, in fact, it should have been part of the application in the first place. The drag-and-drop positioning for text + images gives you much more scope for creative page layouts and it's really easy to use - with an interface that's clear and simple and consistent with the latest apps from Apple (+ others). It's not always spot on for WYSIWYG layouts, and you can't import movies yet. (A major omission.) Otherwise it's close to perfect - and virtually essential if you want to get the most out of Rapidweaver without becoming a web expert. (Version 1.2.2U)

SIBELIUS Should work with 10.3.9? Sadly, it doesn't. Nor does the uninstaller, you have to take it out manually. Very disappointing - especially since it would be a useful thing to have, and the only alternative (Startup sound) doesn't work either. (Version 2.0.5)

BRUCE_Y There are at least two programs that do work with Panther (10.3.x) and earlier: StartupSound.prefPane by Arcana Research, free, here on MU at www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16425 TinkerTool System by Marcel Bresink, 7EUR, here on MU at www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13662 There may be others, but those are two that I have used for the last few years, on my earlier OS X installations. StartupSound.prefpane allows setting it to low level or off (or normal) while TinkerTool System allows startup chime either on or off (mute). As well, TinkerTool System does a bunch of other handy stuff. (Version 2.0.6)
