Lock My Mac | Feb 27 2008 |
CMILLER My motivation for creating the application was that OS X does not have a feature to lock the OS like Windows (Windows Key + L) or Linux have. As such, I wanted to create the most focused, down the point application: that is, one that just locks OS X when launched and that's it. I know of a number of other mac users that expressed the same concern, and so I decided to figure out a solution, and it turned out to be Lock My Mac. I spent some time browsing the web to find an app, but none were tailored to do exactly what I wanted: search for "lock" in spotlight/quicksilver, press enter, and have OS X instantly locked so I could walk away from my computer. As far as the icon, I don't have a huge amount of time since I'm in college to develop a graphic (or the time to develop the skill...yes, that would be more appropriate), so I looked into what was already available that symbolized a lock. I found that the File Vault icon was perfect for this, so I decided to use this. By the way, I checked out your (semaja2.net's) site and got a kick out of, "there's no place like 127.0.0.1." Hope this detailed response has satisfied anybody's question as to why this application exists. (Version 1.0)

SEMAJA2.NET There is a extremely very very very simple reason for this, as the developer of MultiAlarm is was seen that there is no way to develop a system that allows for international systems and even just one carrier, and most carriers now offer emails which can be sent to sms anyway (Version 0.26b)

SEMAJA2.NET Just use a older version? I support this decision 100% and the same happens to my programs, we can only support older OSes for so long. And a application like this requires dedication to one OS version (Version 2.4)

SEMAJA2.NET This is the standard way that Apple wants developers to develop their applications. The application support folder is used by many applications and is free to do so, the use of system folders though would make sense to document. However 100s of applications such as adium make use of the application support folder with no documentation. PS. I will add this to the readme (Version 1.3.3)

SEMAJA2.NET You never asked, and i would of been happy to tell you. However just for everyones sake, the most recent versions (excluding Legacys) store the kext in ~/Library/Application Support/InsomniaX The kexts are only loaded when you enable Insomnia, when disabled the kexts are unloaded. JONHOHLE There is an item on the Sparkle roadmap for this feature, that's correct. But its a line item on a road map. This software is built, ready, and working. The betas are all fully functional and free. Thanks for the comments. (Version 0.1)

Alarm Clock | Jun 27 2007 |
SEMAJA2.NET If you want to lock the screen for security, you should try my Utility Lock which was intended for this purpose. It is very customisable *dont mix it with the Apple Lock however* and quite secure. PS. This is not to advertise my program, but more of to help a fellow user of this great alarm program (Version 2.4.4)

SEMAJA2.NET Reply to both below: The current Apple line of MacBooks support clamshell mode and is safe to do so, as well as the PowerBooks support the clamshell mode as well. As far as Apple has told (limited) us is that the iBooks do not support clamshell mode, although everyone that has used their laptops in clamshell mode have not reported any heat increase. However if your still concerned that you may fry your Mac, keep a eye out on the temps using other software on MacUpdate. Please also note this whole "may" over heat is in the readme file. PS. The only time your laptop really may suffer is if you do a process that uses the cpu non-stop, or you put the laptop in a bag (this is a confirmed killer) (Version 1.1)

SEMAJA2.NET This is a newer version of SyncNow you could call it, as both me and Jool developed this application. However the primary difference in this application is that it is automated, unlike SyncNow which required you to manually activate the program (Version 0.1b)

SEMAJA2.NET 1. Well im always happy for graphics provided and i admit the statusIcons and the icon for the app are horrible but i need people to submit them, however the lock image used is what Apple provides but ill take replacements if they are good enough 2. I really dont want to go down the path of adding too many features that the app loses its original meaning, but ill look into it (Version 0.2.1)

MultiAlarm | Mar 25 2007 |
SEMAJA2.NET There is a few security holes that are being worked on still, we have tried to secure as much as we can without be intrusive, we are also limited in the current language of MultiAlarm and are planning to recode the project to a much more powerful language. A update will be released soon to fix many bugs such as the ftp upload (Version 3.4.2)

WiFiScriptor | Feb 21 2007 |
SEMAJA2.NET Those applications are based on using the location system inside OSX, this can be a pain in the butt as you would have to actually change it to make the settings apply. WiFiScriptor actually detects automatically what wireless network you just joined or left and finds the corresponding script, also by using scripts it is extremely powerful and can almost anything you want. PS. LocationX seemed to have comments saying it was unstable, and LocationChanger is almost a new as this so im unsure how it can be said its proven stable. (Version 0.1b)

SEMAJA2.NET Could you explain the "false alarms" some settings like sensitivity and use of the NonSMS Sensor can cause false readings and most errors like this are results from bad configurations and can be easily fixed by contacting support. PS. A improvment that will hopefully come is a easier configuration (Version 3.3.1)
