SBCHAVEL  Could you elaborate on what sounds like an extremely useful tip?

****.

SBCHAVEL  Wonderful menubar data app. Two recommended improvements: (1) menubar font customization and more elegant rendering, (2) ability to subordinate all graphs and data to one menu item, so that clicking on, e.g., date and time brings up or gives access to all the different data and graphs.

SBCHAVEL  In SL Pastor files revert to txt default so that one must first launch Pastor then open the file. Get Info changes do not seem to stick. Does anyone have a way to keep Pastor files in their proper format?

The number in the menubar does not match what I see in Mail.app.

Maybe the name could be replaced by a less unwieldy one.

SBCHAVEL  It's really nice to be able to see the mailbox by mailbox breakdown.

Clicking on a specific mailbox in the drop-down menu should open that mailbox in Mail.app; likewise, clicking a particular email should open that email in Mail.app. Instead, either action opens up a preview pane that includes all the new emails in a single list.

Checking the Growl preference brings up all the new emails in Growl but each one needs to be closed mechanically rather than close automatically after a fixed time. If you get tens of emails, this can be tedious.

"Set mailboxes" should probably be renamed "Preferences," although that is not entirely accurate either, since the preview of unread emails list is accessed in that window as well.

SBCHAVEL  Thank you for taking the time to reply. I already had a bundles folder created. I copied LB 0.24b4 into the bundles folder, as instructed. Downloading 0.22 and installing that worked. Apple's Mail preferences now have a Letterbox menu or page or whatever you call it. Attempting to replace 0.22 by 0.24b4 resulted in losing the functionality again. Why 0.24b4 doesn't work I do no not know. But 0.22 does, and now that I have Letterbox, just as others have said, there is no turning back. Thanks.

KOBALT  It's not a pref pane you should be looking for, but a Preferences menu item in Mail. Most likely it will be at the end of your current Preferences window and you may have to widen that a little to see it.

ROBOTANK  Just in case the first reply didn't get it right, I'll point out one other possibility. Do you have other Mail bundles installed? If not, it's possible that Mail isn't configured to enable bundles. In order to enable them you need to do the following (this is straight out of the readme file included with Letterbox 0.24b4): 1) Create the folder ~/Library/Mail/Bundles if it doesn't exist. 2) Enter this command in terminal: defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles 1

Now as long as Letterbox.mailbundle is in the Bundles folder it should work. I don't know if this is your problem. You said you installed per instructions, so you've probably already done this, but I think it's worth mentioning just in case.

SBCHAVEL  Beautiful, convenient app. Could use further features, such as customizable view, e.g., vertical vs. horizontal; drop down from menu bar; pop up ical data on customized key combo rather than double click to open ical.

SBCHAVEL  Convenient. Does what it says. Links to latest news feeds is useful. Could be more customizable, like set order of stocks and data tracked. Fixing date in columns rather than separating by commas or whatever could make the list better visually. it is unclear what the difference is between the trial version and the paid version. Ratings are therefore provisional.

SBCHAVEL  Looks nice, takes up little space, works well, good customization. But tracks the IN box, not all unread emails, so if you have rules set up to sort new mail, the widget will miss them. Suggestion: clicking on widget checks for new mail immediately.

SBCHAVEL  I have worked around MUM's "launch when Mail launches" setting. Using the great keyboard shortcut app iKey, I set up a shortcut so that when Mail launches, 3 seconds later MUM launches. This time delay has ended MUM's automatic quits. For those of you who use other shortcut apps (e.g. Spark), you may want to experiment with them. When MUM works, it has better features than all the other unread-mail-tracking apps.

SBCHAVEL  Great widget. It would be even better if you could change sports much more easily so you could use a single widget to track all the sports rather than take up much Dashboard desktop space with so many for all the different sports you like to track.

Apple Keynote
Feb 10 2009
*****

SBCHAVEL  Keynote is absolutely wonderful. With a job-talk coming up, I decided to do a slideshow presentation - my first ever. I downloaded Keynote's 30-day trial version, which gives you complete use of the application, including saving and exporting. The application is so dummy proof, even a professor at an ivy league university like myself could use it. It opens with an option to watch a very short introductory video clip. This was enough to get me up and running. After that, everything about the application is intuitive, inviting, and beautiful. Running it in the background of my lecture could not have been more elegant with the barely noticeable remote control in the palm of my hand. When I finished the presentation, a good percentage of the questions were about what program I used. Professors like myself who'd never before used presentation software expressed how essential they now realize it could be to teaching. So kudos to Keynote. Thank you for a job-talk well done.
