SANJINKO The downloaded disk image, when mounted, contains an Installer package, which in turn, when opened with, say, Pacifist, shows AOL Desktop.app with a dot preceeding it, hence an invisible file.
Is that what AOL tries to put onto our Macs? Invisible applications!

I'm the product manager for AOL Desktop for Mac and when you use Pacifist, the .AOL Desktop.app file is the standard technique used by many Mac apps. When installing a new update, we make sure the entire file is installed before removing the older one. This is a standard procedure for Apple's DMG packager. Even Microsoft doesn't demand you use an installer, they have one, but when I installed Office X it gave me the option of running the installer or just copying the appdir to Applications. What's the point of installers for trivial apps? (which does raise the question, why do you need AOL desktop at all?)

MACUPDATE ADMIN Dashboard: Search is a category for widgets that perform a search in the most traditionally understood meaning of the term. Yahoo, Google, lyrics, etc. This widget has much more to do with networks than anything else. For if one computer is connected to another in some fashion, this is appropriately associated with 'network' category.

SANJINKO Compared with the previous version 3.6, this version lacks necessary files for proper installation, i.e. iTunes plug-in. When the installer reaches "Select a Destination" phase, it says: "Installing this software requires 0 bytes of space" I'm keeping the last working version, 3.6.

SANJINKO As much as I like Yellow Mug Software titles, I cannot find $12 justifiable for this app.
Beautiful Mac OS X icons can be easily found on Apple's Downloads site, and creating new folders and substituting default folder's icon is just thru Get info command (single-tab goes to icon, double-tab to comments).

JAZZADDICT Though I do agree with you that customizing the icon used for a particular folder is easy, customizing a folder with a unique branding is a pain, and to mundane of a task to justify opening a real illustrator. I keep a few folders on the right side of the dock, where the name of a folder is not displayed. Without having the folder branded with its names initials (or a symbol), I get confused. I also don't like having the text displayed under Finder toolbar items, so having this always me to add identifiable folders to the toolbar. Regarding your opinion of the price... to each his own. SANJINKO To permanently delete files/folders from your HD:
1)Open Terminal
2)cd FILE/FOLDER PATH
3)sudo rm -rv *
Then you type in your admin password, and chosen data is gone...forever.

BURNINGTHUMB ShredIt X has many important features, like Safe Place, not found on the command line. We have been doing this for 15 years (since Mac OS 7) and trust me there is nothing worse than the sinking feeling of realizing you just shredded something by accident. This is just one example. Finally, if the command line is for you that's great, but for many Mac OS X users a GUI is the way to go - there is a good reason for GUI's and that is why many folks pay $179 for Mac OS X upgrades instead of installing the free open source Darwin ;-)

SANJINKO This application could be useful to those who use plain "Empty Trash" command. In such a case I could justify $49 price tag.
On the other hand, if you use "Secure Empty Trash" or delete the contents of the Trash via Terminal, the data being previously trashed is gone forever.

DAERTAEMES I could be wrong, but as he is claiming it only works with 10.4 Tiger, I wouldn't be surprised to hear he is using Core Data or similar libraries for some functionality. That could mean you could not create an account, as the library used to save the data would simply not be in the operating system. I don't have any problems creating accounts on 10.4.

SANJINKO To the poster with one star: read the documents within disk image The application works great on my Panther (10.3.9) system. Drag the app's icon onto Desktop AND in the Dock. Launch it. Note: the app cannot be terminated with Quit command, but only via Force Quit command in Activity Monitor utility (in Applications/Utilities under My Processes)
