Adobe Dock

SAMM  The right side of the dock is for documents, folders, and other files, the left side is for applications. Apple made this distinction quite clear with the layout and set up of the dock, I am holding to their frameworks.

SAMM  Using the project gallery is a waste of time, personally I have never used it, and I have never seen anyone else use it in their docks. if you launch project gallery then you get this other window that you have to deal with, whereas if you use this launcher it is contained to one menu from the dock icon.

SAMM  I just tested it as well, both work fine, I will have to agree that it is your end.

SAMM  Hiding them from the dock would also eliminate them from the application switcher and the menubar, I have already looked into this for eliminating the dock applications from the menubar and application switcher but keeping them in the dock, so it seems to me that it is you will either have all the things, or none.

SAMM  Are you on an intel machine? If so it may be because it was compiled on a PPC machine. It is either that or it may just be your machine for whatever reason, also is it using 15MB while it is idle or while it is launching an application? If you could send me an email of a screenshot of Activity Monitor showing this it would be very helpful.

SAMM  There is no possible way to remove it from the application switcher without removing it from the dock as well. I have contacted Apple and a number of Cocoa developers about this and it cannot be helped.

SAMM  if you do it with a folder, it require to you click once, wait for the window to appear, then click on the alias, then close the window. With this app, you can click, hold then go to the wanted application in the list, then let go of the mouse, and that application will open, it is a timesaver and reduces dock clutter.

SAMM  I have inquired with apple and a few cocoa developers, and the answer I am getting about that is that you cannot have it in the dock and not appear in the application switcher (command tab) or in the menubar, this is unfortunate, because I was hoping to implement that into all of them.

SAMM  Currently when you launch an application from iWork Dock or Office Dock, they will be brought to the front, but in cases such as the Microsoft office applications where you have to wait for them to launch completely, so if you do click on safari, to look something up or mail, to check your mail while you wait, when to are ready to go back to pages or whatever, you can either command tab to it, or go to the iWork Dock icon, then do the same thing as if you were going to launch Pages, but instead of launching it again it will bring it to the front.

Apple iPhone SDK
Jul 5 2008

SAMM  Here is something that might help for installing on PPC leopard machines:

Step 1
:

The iPhone SDK comes in a .dmg image file, which is read only, since we are going to write to it in Step 2, the first thing we do is convert it to a read/write image.
To convert the .dmg file launch Disk Utility, pick File->Open Disk Image, and chose the SDKs dmg file. Now click on "Convert" on the Top of the utility. The Dialogue which opens will say "Image Format: Compressed" -> which we set to "Read/Write" the other box (encryption) we leave alone. Chose a target where you want it saved and press save.
Disk Utility will now take its time and decompress the image to another (uncompressed, read/write) image.

Step 2
:

Mount the Image by doubleclick on it, but do not start the SDK installation yet. You should be able to open /Volumes/iPhone SDK/iPhone SDK.mpkg/Contents/iPhoneSDK.dist in your favorite text-editor now. What we are going todo now is make sure that a few checks Apple build in return true, even if they fail. For that search the functions: agreedToSLA and SDKPresent and make sure they return "true" under all circumstances. (if you do not know what that means, what exactly are you going to use the SDK for again? ;)

Step 3
:

Start the Installer, contained in the image. Happy Installing.

now for installing on a tiger machine, there is a way to trick the installer into thinking that your machine is a leopard machine, as of right now I don't think I am going to say because when you click "Install" in just says the install failed, and it can do bad stuff to the system if you are not careful.

SAMM  Could please send me an email containing exactly what happens because personally I don't use MSN messenger, preferring Adium myself, and don't have a working MSN account so I cannot test that exactly, from what I can test it opens MSN messenger and prompts me with an username and password window to login.

SAMM  Yes, I am looking into why it does that, I have found a few other applications that do similar things when launched in this method. Warcraft III in-particular has trouble launching when it is opened via a dock menu.

SAMM  hmmm, odd since I have it working fine on my machine, check the name of your MSN Messenger application. it should read "MSN Messenger" exactly or it will not be picked up. I will look into it.
