RUFTY TUFTY EasyFind does NOT use an index. That's clearly stated in the first sentence of the description. The reason it's so useful (when Spotlight isn't) is that Spotlight only indexes part of your system, and doesn't find anything in the areas that aren't indexed. And, indexing >everything< would take a long time, and take a lot of space for the index. The genius of EasyFind is that it is fairly fast, considering that it doesn't use an index. I use it a few times a month to find system files, etc., and a couple of minutes or so is no big deal (I do something else while I'm waiting). 3 or 4 minutes to search an entire server over the network is actually pretty impressive. While it's not as fast as you might like, you might want to ask - what's the alternative? The only way to do it faster is to build an index, with all the overhead that entails. (Version 4.0.1) |
