RRNOWELL  I too am a teacher. I have a number of documents that I have created over the years and whenever I try a new version of MSO or another word processor I invariably have a great deal of editing to do. My original post happened to be on Mellel because I was hoping they could pull off a smooth translation.

I don't blame Mellel for the problem or for not having a translation that meets my needs... if anything is to blame I suppose it is the lack of a standard universal format.

Still I have been hopeful enough over the years to try from time to time.

RRNOWELL  Jeremy, thank you for the application. I wanted to make some suggestions as a new user.

1) I am unsure how to import Bible verses.

2) There was no Help or Read Me file to refer to.

Perhaps a menu that lets you specify what Bible s/w you have and then using the info from the user imports that text (e.g. Quickverse, Accordance, etc.) would be some way of helping a new user to get started.

Since it is a 0.x.x version a rating unless one is very happy with the application should wait until the application has a chance to mature (IMHO). Thank you for you time and efforts Jeremy. I will be watching your application for updates and improvements. God Speed!

RRNOWELL  Since my post I have tried Pages, NW, and Mariner Write on some of the Word documents I would have to convert... in every case I would have to do a great deal of "editing" to get the format correct again. I appreciate the comments even though these products don't work for me. Perhaps in the future.

RRNOWELL  The claim is made that Mellel caters to user requests. This is great if it is true. I am just a user... I do not have an allegiance so to speak which it seems too many do. I want a word processor that can meet my needs.

For me, and many other users, the Word format is the the most prevalent whether we like Word or not is irrelevant. We need to be able to open and save as Word documents. I cannot afford the time involved in translating/re-editing.

If Mellel is catering to customers... where is a list quantifying what is most requested by their users. I would try Mellel or any program that can reliably open my Word documents and save as Word documents. It seems to many many users must have asked for this and Mellel doesn't seem to have it. Perhaps it is something that is not doable.

Anyway, when Mellel or NW or Pages or whatever can show me that it can open and save in the Word format I will give it a college try. Until then I have little choice but to use MSO as it is the defacto std. (I don't like this, but I am stuck with it... I wish a universal std could be made a minimum requirement. I have MSO 2004 for Mac and it is buggy on Snow Leopard so I have to maintain a Leopard volume or buy MSO 2008 (which might force editing of my Word 2004 files anyway)...

RRNOWELL  I have been using SuperDuper! for a while now and appreciate the support I have received and the promptness of updates.I wish I could give a more specific review, but for me it just works and ultimately that is what I want as a user.

RRNOWELL  Since virtually everyone acknowledges that the Dragon engine is the best and MacSpeech has licensed it and since Dragon Dictate is acknowledged to be the premier product, has anyone tried using Dragon Dictate running under WinXP and Parallels or VM Fusion? Perhaps it would be better to take this route as the owners of MacSpeech seem to be bilking out of cash customers with an inferior product.

I sure wish Apple would spin off a subsidiary to compete with MacSpeech and clear out the dross as this hurts Apple's product by limiting the application software available on the Mac and having a poor vendor that is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of Apple's customers.

RRNOWELL  Intech seems to be utterly unresponsive. I went to their web site (www.speedtools2.com) in search of status on Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow Leopard support. Mac OS X 10.5 is the last acknowledged level of support.

I tried several of their tabbed pages. Upon trying the SUPPORT FORUM page I received the following:

I proceeded to try the DOWNLOADS tab which worked however since my introduction to the product is through OWC external drive purchases I have the OEM version 2.8.1, therefore I couldn't access the non-OEM area. I proceed to try the OEM area and learned that it appeared to work but the date on the 2.8.1 zip file is February 6, 2008. That is over 18 months old with no updates (seems a little long in the tooth for a product and makes me wonder if there is any support.

No date on it so I don't know how long it has been since anyone has registered.

Finally I tried the CONTACT tab which took me a page that appeared promising. It gave me an address and a FAX phone number, but no other phone number. Hmmm. Time for an internet phone directory search? Well before that I decided to try the links on the CONTACT page.

The links were FORUMS, EMAIL SYSTEM, TRY OUT SELF-SERVE LOOKUP SYSTEM, and LOGIN.

I first tried FORUMS and received this error:

Next I tried the TRY OUT SELF-SERVE LOOKUP SYSTEM but it requires a login that only non-OEM purchasers supposedly can get.

Effectively for me an OEM user the site was costly in that I spent time and effort and came up blank.

I would not recommend this product because of the problems I encountered.
