RORO01 THE BEST NOTE PAD APPLICATION!!! Many, many thanks to the developer. I checked the application thoroughly and everything is working perfectly. Now it is possible to back up to the same location, the application remembers the path to the backup location, font changes are saved, if you select text you can get information about it and the developer sorted the problem of speed, as I've suggested to him below, by making the application store each note in a separate file in the user library. However, there is still room for improvements: 1. Doesn't support copy/paste style. 3. Doesn't use the system colour palettes. 5. Can't make lists (numbered or bulleted). (Version 4.9.4)

RORO01 NEW VERSION, NEW PROBLEMS! If you change the font, even to the default font you chose in Preferences, it would not be saved to the next session and this happened to me when the next session was an hour later. Worse of all - when I launched the application the day after I upgraded it, it didn't load the notes even though they were to be found in ~/Library/Preferences/Memoblock Files. RORO01 SUMMERY OF PROBLEMS 1. If you "Create Backup of Note Data" in a particular location and you want to back up again the next time you use the application, you will not be able to back up to the same location. An alert would pop up saying: "A backup already exists in this location, please choose an alternative location". Obviously, it should ask you whether you want to replace it with the new backup. The same problem occurs when you "Export As ...". 2. Doesn't remember the path to the backup file but instead always takes you to HD/Documents. 3. Doesn't support copy/paste style. 5. Doesn't use the system font panel - if you select text you cannot get any information about it. 6. Doesn't use the system colour palettes. 8. Can't make lists (numbered or bulleted). 9. It is the slowest OSX application I've ever encountered. I hope very much the developer would make this application perfect since I love it!!! (Version 4.8.1)

RORO01 TO USE THESE SOUND FILES ALSO AS iPHONE RINGTONES 1. Go to /Library/Sounds and double click on your chosen file - it will open in iTunes. 2. Select it in iTunes window Library>Music and using the Advanced menu, convert it to AAC version (if your menu item does not read "Create AAC Version" and reads "Create MP3 version" or some other format - go to iTunes>Preferences>General>Import Settings and change the "Import Using" drop down menu to "AAC Encoder"). Another file of the same name will appear above the original file. 3. Select the newly created file and using the File menu, show it in Finder. It is a MPEG4 file with an extension .m4a - drag it to your desktop. 4. Go back to iTunes window Library>Music and trash both files. 5. Change the extension of the MPEG4 file from .m4a to .m4r and then double click on it - it will apear as a ringtone in iTunes window Library>Ringtones. 6. Sinc your iPhone and you are done! If you wish to convert your own sound file to a ringtone, make sure it is less than 30 seconds in length. You can check it's duration in the Get Info window under More Info. (Version 1.0)

BRATTOO PROPAGANDA SOFTWARE There are several freeware and commercial utilities such as the suggested Image Comparitor that locates duplicate files in the filesystem. However, when locating duplicates in iPhoto it is not sufficient to remove the files since the iPhoto library data base will then be corrupted since it points to image files that does no longer exists in the iPhoto library package. Therefor, a word of advice: Messing with the files in the iPhoto library package or folder may cause a corrupt iPhoto library database and or loss of data. Therefor, be careful when attempting to use a generic duplicate detection tool when hunting for duplicates in iPhoto. Duplicate Annihilator is not a generic duplicate detection tool but a tool designed especially for iPhoto and only Apples own API's and recommended methods when manipulating the iPhoto library and the images. I hope the developer will add a small "drag onto" window and an icon in the dock when the application is running - then it will be, definitely, a five star application. (Version 1.6.7)

MONOCLAST Personally, I have not seen Play Sound reach 10 MB of memory usage; though I suppose it's possible if you queue up enough large sounds. Even so, if you'll compare all the processes listed in Activity Viewer with Play Sound, you'll see most other applications you leave running all the time use lots more RAM than this. Under 10 MB isn't very much at all in comparison. I have noted your feature request to add a user interface to Play Sound. Unfortunately, adding a menu bar and window would not only increase the memory footprint of the application substantially, but would also make it take much longer to launch and quit. Also you should know you are only the second person out of tens of thousands of other users who has asked for a user interface. Most users of Play Sound seem to be perfectly happy with it the way it is, and wouldn't use the user interface anyway. I'm not of the opinion most users should suffer just because one or two users happen to want Play Sound to be something it's not. Remember: Play Sound is designed from the ground up to be a fast, simple, faceless sound player. (Version 1.6.7)

RORO01 There is no need for this faceless application to be running continuously in the background, as the developer suggests, as long as you have DragThing. The application will launch when you drop the first sound file onto its icon and will stay open for ever in the background. However, if you have DragThing you can drag the file onto its alias in the DragThing dock and then you can easily quit it in DragThing after you're done with it. (Version 1.6.7)

RORO01 Thank you, Samadore, I have read it. Basically, what he says is: click the application icon in the menu bar to open the pull down menu, Command-Option click on "Preferences" and a window entitled "Defaults Editor" will open. Type "AutocheckInterval" in the Key field (case sensitive) and the number of minutes of how often you want it checked in the Value field. Click set and relaunch the application. I'm not going to try this, however, because I haven't found any other difference between this new version and the previous one and so I'm going to stick with the older one. CUNEYT Thanks to JonnyGozy: I think I've figure out a solution for this problem. If you click on the mail icon, then hold down command and option keys while clicking on preferences in the drop down box, you will be prompted with a box that has a key and value prompt. Type "AutocheckInterval" under key (this seems to be case-sensitive) and then under value type in the number in minutes of how often you want it checked. You will need to quit out of the notifier (again found in the drop down box under the mail icon) and then run the app again for your change to take effect. I typed in 1 and it is checking every minute or so now for me. I hope this works for everyone else too. (Version 1.10.4.676)

I suggest creating a new column under "My Accounts" tab, called "Interest Rate", between the "Account" and "Amount" columns. (Version 3.2.2.2)

RORO01 Thank you for continuing to develop Buddi. I think I have found a bug and I also have a feature request: 1. At one time you had the main window set up so that interest rates showed in brackets next to the account names, all in that same window and it was so easy to compare all the rates for my various accounts at a glance. However, now if I want to compare several interest rates I need to select an account, go to Edit>Modify Accounts, check the interest rate I've typed into the notes box, jot that down, close that window, select a new account, go again to Edit>Modify Accounts ... and continue that process until I have a note of all the rates I need. Then I can compare them. It would be wonderful if I could have that old feature back! For those who say they don't want to see the interest rates in the main window, perhaps you could add an option in preferences to show or hide them. 2. On the subject of Edit>Modify Accounts ... if you click OK on this window the accounts on the main window roll up into their categories (the nodes close) and then immediately unroll again. If, however, you click Cancel then the accounts roll up and stay that way until they're manually unrolled. Obviously, in either case the nodes shouldn't be affected. Once again, many thanks for your continuing hard work to make Buddi the best personal finance application around! (Version 3.2.1.5)

1) That should not be a problem... I can't remember why I removed it in the first place (I think that it was just something that I missed when converting to the new 3.0 version). Can you please add a feature request via the Buddi web site (http://buddi.thecave.homeunix.org/en/support.jsp)? I only rarely read these comments, and generally use the official feature request list for new features / bugs. If it is on the official list, I tend to remember it better. 2) This is an annoying bug which I have been aware of for some time; however, from what I can tell, it is a bug in the third party component I am using. I will look into it some more to see if I can figure out what is causing it.

Buddi | Oct 6 2008 |
WYATT Just to verify, in your comment you mention interest rates. The only extra field I have in accounts is the overdraft / credit limits. Is this what you mean? Or do you have interest rates in the notes section? I have added an 'Available Funds' column on the My Accounts screen, if you have either overdraft or credit limit active in Preferences. This will show you either the amount of money left before you reach your credit limit (for Credit accounts), or the amount of money you can spend before reaching your overdraw limit (Debit accounts). This is not yet in the stable version, but is in a development preview release 3.3.0.0 - if you are interested, you can grab it from http://buddi.thecave.homeunix.org/builds/ . Note that this is not tested, and there have been some changes to the data model, which may corrupt your data. If you *save* using this version, you will not be able to open it in previous versions, so please backup your data before running this! Please let me know if you have any further questions / comments about this feature.

Buddi | Oct 7 2008 |
WYATT Ahh, gotcha. The reason I removed that field was that it was not used in the program at all (and it had the potential to be confusing - people expected that it would actually calculate interest, etc, but that is beyond the scope of the program). I can easily re-add that field, sort of as a 'for information only', and make a note that it does not calculate interest.

Buddi | Oct 17 2008 |
WYATT I have implemented this as of development version 3.3.0.0. This version will not be released for a little while, as I am in the process of working with another developer to allow split transactions, and will not release it until that is finished. However, keep watching for updates, and you will get this eventually ;-) (FYI, 3.3.0.0 will be released as a development release, and will probably take a bit of time to become considered stable. At the very latest, though, you can use this feature in 3.4.0.0, which will be the first 'stable' release after 3.3.x. See http://buddi.thecave.homeunix.org/en/faq.jsp, "How do I interpret your version numbers?" for information on how I determine the version number.)

Buddi | Oct 19 2008 |
WYATT In 3.2.2.3 I added a workaround to refresh the state of the account window, which is what is making it open again. The actual bug appears to be in a third party library, so I cannot fix it directly; I think that this 'fix' is as good as it will get until the library itself is fixed.

RORO01 How can anybody give five stars to a beta application? Just thank the developer for thinking of us and be patient. Hopefully the time will come for a five star rating. (Version 0.45)

RORO01 Thanks for your speedy reply and for considering the suggested feature. I think the best idea would be a list with checkboxes next to each page. I also noticed that you don't have an icon for your application so I have made one for you but don't have your email address. If you would like to email me at rorocash@googlemail.com I will send it to you. (Version 1.0)

RORO01 Thank you for that. Would it also be possible to add a feature allowing the user to select which pages to convert? Then the user would not have to convert a whole, large PDF document if they only wanted a few pages. (Version 1.0)

RORO01 Works as described for JPEG. All images black for BMP. Dark grey background for all other formats (when original PDF's pages backgrounds is white). iMac Intel 10.4.11 (Version 1.0)

thank you for your input. I will take a look and see what can I do about it. I may be able to fix it. I needed it just for JPEG, so I didn't test other formats. Sorry for that.

KRYSTOF VASA I think it would be possible. How would you like me to implement it? As a range of pages? Or maybe a list with checkboxes next to each page?

RORO01 No, no ... I'm aware that installer.app requests root privileges to install in many instances and, in these cases, the alert states that installer.app is requesting that you enter your password (without requesting your administrator name) in order to install. I'm talking about something else, here. As I was being guided through the installation and reached the last stage and clicked on "install", a window was displayed stating that I have to enter name & password of an administrator so that changes could be made to Installer.app. It seems, however, that the developer has fixed the issue as I downloaded & installed this package today without having this problem. RORO01 Changes to Installer.app? The downloaded package wants to make changes to the utility Installer.app and I can't understand why. When clicking "install" a window is displayed asking you to enter name & password of an administrator in order to make changes to Installer.app (Version 1.1.5)

ZANGIEF No, no… Installer.app is requesting root privileges to install something. The package isn't an app in itself, so it can't request root privileges, no less to modify an open application. (Version 1.1.5)

Displays "Error" when launching the application saying that the selected AppleScript file, which was used in the previous session, being suddenly invalid and then crashhhh. Happens with both - text and compiled scripts which have the correct extensions. iMac Intel 10.4.11 (Version 1.2)

RORO01 SUCH A GREAT APPLICATION !!! Works as described. The developer was thinking about making it a widget - please don't wast your time as everyone would use the "Quit automatically" option which doesn't suit a widget. I wish the developer would create a sister application which would be able to quit any application after a certain amount of time. This would be especially useful for quitting VLC and the likes when listening to internet radio that iTunes doesn't support. Many, many thanks. (Version 4.6)

GUGUSOFT With iTunesShut 4.8 you can use your own AppleScripts. That means, that you can use a simple line of AppleScript code to quit any application you wish. Open AppleScript Editor and type for example: tell application "VLC" to quit Then in iTunesShut choose "AppleScript" from the pop-up button and then choose your script. That's all! (Version 4.8)

iTunesShut | Dec 7 2008 |
RORO01 Yes, but you will need a script for every application on your computer. With App QuitTimer you can quit any application - instead of having multiple scripts. (Version 4.8)

iTunesShut | Dec 8 2008 |
GUGUSOFT No, you don't need multiple scripts. You can use one script for all your apps you want to quit. tell application "iTunes" to quit tell application "Mail" to quit and so on … (Version 4.8)

DOOBIEXX No offense, but I think it would better all MU members if your opinion was a bit more subjective. To you Buddi is best, I , personally despise the program. So obviously you can't just say Buddi is BEST. You can say in my opinion it's best but, it's not the best by a long shot. Runs like a one-legged donkey, my opinion on the soft. Funny how opinions differ. (Version 2.9.1)

RORO01 The only benefit is: "Enhances the trailers by allowing HD in either 720p or 480p". I have an iMac Intel 10.4.11 and it is very easy to access Front Row via the keyboard - Command+Esc to activate, arrows and Return to navigate, Esc to go back, any key to exit. Activate Front Row | Jan 1 2008 |
HILBO60 To RORO01; FYI, for owners of machines without Infra Red such as mine, 'Front Row' will not even run! So the method of control of this program is not the issue here. 'The only benefit' is that we are able to use the App. As already stated, 'Front Row Enabler' used to do the job until 10.4.11 broke it. That is why this little program is so invaluable to so many! (Version 0.1)

Activate Front Row | Aug 15 2008 |
SIMEN Front Row works on my Mac Pro which has no infrared. I have 10.5 though. (Version 0.2)

Activate Front Row | Aug 15 2008 |
HILBO60 Yes, Front Row does indeed work with leopard installed, I have since upgraded to 10.5 and as such, no longer need this App. My earlier comments on the usefulness of this little hack are still entirely valid for Tiger users though! (Version 0.2)

RORO01 THE BEST FREE PERSONAL FINANCE APPLICATION !!! I'm very grateful to the developer for making this application perfect by fixing all the issues, adding features and hitting all the little buggies on the head :-) Buddi is better then the professional accounting applications as far as personal finance is concerned, after all who needs profit & loss account, balance sheet and cash flow statement for home use. HALEAKALARI this program used to be free just about 3 versions ago, i still use the free version on my tiger box. when i got a newer macbook with leopard, i decided to try out the universal binary beta of disk inventory x and it worked fantastically. if anyone is looking for software which performs the same function(s) as whatsize, i suggest you try disk inventory x. i don't think it will ever become shareware as it is under the gpl. plus, it works great on both 10.4 and 10.5. the universal binary can be downloaded from here; http://www.derlien.com/download.php?file=dix1.0universal (Version 4.2)
