ROBOGOBO  Well thanks guys for coming to my defense. I haven't been back here since I originally wrote the review, and I think the rating system is just another silly thing that every review site has these days. I usually just ignore them. The smiley faces are a bit unclear, though, I just tried to mod you guys up and hit the wrong one, and you can't go back. So maybe you can give each other a star and even it out. Sorry about that.

Regarding Tinkertool, I went back to using Cocktail, and it's really just as good. I have no hard feelings toward Mr Bresnik. I just think he's a hardheaded German with a killer app that has a couple problems. He did offer me my money back in the end, but I passed. I hoped that made my point clearer. Anyway the reason it didn't get along with my system is unclear. It was a brand new install on a new Mac Pro, with not even a tick since uninstalling TT. So.

ROBOGOBO  I had most of these done already via Terminal, but you did a great job giving them a GUI. You may want to allow a return to default for each individual mod. And perhaps add a screenshot or better description of what each one will do.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  All you have to do is click on the 'More Information' link on the MacUpdate page for Spirited Away which will take you to the developer's site and you can find the previous versions there.

ROBOGOBO  I'm duplicating my review of Tinkertool System here, because this review is developer/support related. After using Tinkertool System for a few months, I did weekly maintenance and ran all the recommended processes religiously. Two weeks ago, after doing the same thing I did before, I experienced constant kernel crashes and freezes immediately following a Tinkertool session. I spent a few days trying to troubleshoot. I'm a moderately experienced user, so I did all the standard stuff- Diskwarrior, fsck, memtest, etc. All found nothing. I do regular backups using CCC, and so I cut my losses, saved my client data and cloned my hard drive from the last backup before Timkertool tinkered too much. That was three days ago, and no more problems.

Now, I'm sure Tinkertool is a good program, but the worst part came when I contacted the developer, Marcel Bresnik. He insisted kernel crashes are only caused by hardware problems, and called me a liar when I said my crashlogs were naturally reverted when I cloned from a backup, and would be of no use in troubleshooting. I asked for a refund, but then told him he could keep his $10 if it was too big a deal, to show him I wasn't lying to rip him off, and I would simply give honest feedback on Versiontracker. So there it is. And it's a shame, because it's probably a good program that needs improvement in a few areas, and the developer just happens to be a defensive ass. Oh well, back to Butler.

TIAGO  I'm with KKNOPP on this one...

And although we're a bunch of gravediggers here (OP more than 1 year old), after reading your (legitimate) complaint, I had to check the 2 replies to help me figure why you had a -6 rating. As I see it, if the rating system worked as it should, your comment should have a very positive rating, since you're giving real/useful feedback... Instead, what we see is some useless reviews receiving very positive ratings, just for stating that "TinkerTool rocks!" or "Transmission is the best!". This is sad...

Anyway, thanks for your post... It was useful to me...

There are so many great products out there, that we should all learn to avoid developers with a bad attitude...

MacMelo

P.S.

Regarding the rating system, I don't think there's anything wrong with the way it's implemented... It works as it should... The problem is just that it's too easy for fanboys (and dishonest developers) to glorify or bury the posts that please/annoy them...

ROBOGOBO  Actually, I'm recanting my previous review. ROBOGOBO  I like this program, very useful. However, it does nothing to force update desktop item info (under the icon). The free space under a Volume reflects the info at Startup, and not the current. I've tried logout/relogin, relaunch the finder, etc. Nothing works. Any ideas?

BRUCE_Y  In order for the Finder to reflect adjusted HD Volume space free/available on the desktop view, one must restart the Finder. This seems to be a "Feature" of the Mac OS X and/or specifically of OS X Finder.

For me, I enable the Finder menu Quit item (via TinkerTool or Mac Pilot or Onyx), and then just Quit and restart the Finder. It always (for me) shows the revised and accurate space "free" under each HD volume after Finder restart. It should not be needed to restart the whole computer.

MIKURO  The Finder also updates them whenever an item is added or removed from the root level of the volume. So if you open the volume and make a new folder, it'll update. It's a bit quicker than quitting and relaunching the Finder.

ROBOGOBO  Excellent Widget. Works perfectly. Integration with Address Book is very nice. Not much more needs to be said. Well worth 3 bucks.

Only suggestion is to add an option to automatically insert a couple returns after the message to put a space between it and the advertising (http://live.sunrise.ch appears at the end of every SMS).

AddressBook Exporter
Jan 11 2007

ROBOGOBO  I really like this application, but I have some requests/suggestions. I previously used Address Book Exporter, which ceased development before Jaguar was released. It allowed custom exports, in which it allowed you to select specific fields from AddressBook, and have them dumped to a CSV or TD or a simple list. I'd really love to see that here and I'd even pay for it. Here's the link to the old App if you're interested. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9312

ROBOGOBO  I assume this project is no longer being supported, since there has been no update in a couple of years I believe. But I can't get it to export custom fields properly in panther. it grabs some addresses but not others.
