ROBERTS2424  I just keep believing that Safari 4 will be speedy. And, every minor upgrade I end up trashing it and going back to version 3.2.1.

*....

ROBERTS2424  iTweax does not support your computer if your password is left blank. So, until the developer changes this it gets an "unacceptable" from this reviewer.

ANDYMARKS  Read this about blank passwords : http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25121

OSX10.5 above do not support blank passwords so you are missing a lot of things you cannot do anymore.

It seems OSX10.6 will drop blank password completely. So get used to it.

STARIMAC  You have to be a moron not using a good password these days. Even when you are the only user you are still vurnable to attacks via security holes when going on line.

Good to hear Apple will disable empty passwords!

MACSOLU  AndyMarks,

You are wrong. Mac OS X 10.5.x can easily be set up / installed with NO password. However, once you choose to add a password (in the "Accounts" Preference pane) you will never be able to go back to having no password without completely reinstalling the OS.

HD Quick Look

ROBERTS2424  After installation could not get this to work. Even installed the demo version of VoltaicHD 1.7 and it crashed every time a file was attempting to open. All equipment requirements were met. (Both products are from one company.)

ROBERTS2424  At first I thought it was kind of cool. But, after a while it became a little annoying as it visually conflicted with all the other folders on the desktop. Cool looking product, though.

PhoneWord
May 16 2008
****.

ROBERTS2424  PhoneWord is on the surface kind of mindless. Yes, then, after you type in phone numbers you realize that it tries to be creative and come up with words associated with the numbers themselves. Your number could be (area code) 772-5464 which would translate into (area code) spam king. If you've got the right number you can probably help people remember it since they often remember words better than a string of numbers. Fun and free.

Shrook
Feb 27 2008

ROBERTS2424  A business associate and I have been having trouble with the Shrook Export command - OPML. We've been exporting one RSS feed and then wanting to import it into Shrook on another machine. Same Shrook version being used on both computers. The file will export but it can't import due to a "unrecognizable/corrupt" message. You can't import the list into any other RSS reader such as Vienna either. The developer has been contacted on several occasions and has never responded. It's proven to be a frustrating experience. As a result, our division has sadly dumped Shrook in favor of Vienna. We're having to rebuild the RSS list which will take a while, too.

ROBERTS2424  In previous versions this program has never lived up to its promise. Who can even believe it's still around? Do yourself a favor and look at other options including WordPress. It will be far less painful.

iCal2Web

ROBERTS2424  iCal2Web is not bad at all. It takes a little modification through the settings.txt file in order to make everything work together. Admittedly, it could have been made a little simpler but it works and well worth the fee.

NewsFire
Jul 30 2006

ROBERTS2424  NewsFIre does have a nice interface. However, it is lacking in functionality. Shrook and Vienna, for example, of which I have no association, at least provide three columns of information making it as easy to absorb information as reading a daily newspaper with fewer clicks. In the end it's the ease of obtaining information and not so much an app's looks. Possibly in a future release this will be addressed. That said, I will keep checking back on the progress of NewsFire.

Skype
Jul 26 2006

ROBERTS2424  No matter how much I use Skype I always go back to Gizmo Project--not affiliated in any way with Gizmo. Skype has too many security issues and doesn't follow "standards." That said, I respect the momentum the company has generated but find other solutions appealing.

ROBERTS2424  Eudora has been a staple since it's inception. But, the developers have really been close minded when it comes to upgrades and especially interface development. I'm still going to use it. But, my patience is wearing thin and I have begun to look at different options.

Shrook
Apr 24 2006

ROBERTS2424  After having tried them all, dealing with all the good and bad points of each Shrook has remained the favorite. Vienna has run a close second. Now, that Shrook is freeware it stands to truly claim its throne. I don't proclaim that Shrook is perfect...but, it's better.

Sandvox
Feb 18 2006

ROBERTS2424  The first thing I noticed about Sandvox is that some of the design elements diappeared after a while. They were just gone! I went back deleted the app and the prefs along with any sites that I had created. Then, reinstalled everything. The design elements were complete for a while and then once again were no longer there. As a result of becoming so frustrated I deleted everything once more and gave up.
