DMG Architect | Oct 21 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN Some great features, but also really needs some vital additions: -One currently cannot import icons (folders) made with IconBuilder Pro. Old image files of icons are long gone, so only option is to import folder icon images, which DMGA won't let me do (I installed Apple's Icon Composer to remedy this, this did not work). -Also had a similar problem: I tried to copy+paste icons from these same folders onto the opened .dmg and unopened .dmg files (via command+I), and I cannot. The icons are somehow locked, and I can't unlock them. Really irritating. Why I can't change them, I don't know. -Image was successfully imported into the background, but when .dmg file is saved and opened, the window is slightly smaller than the image inside it. I could not re-save the folder size to exactly match size of imported image. One out of ten tries (approximately) this doesn't happen, the image and window display successfully. But one out of ten isn't exactly a good track record. Overall the dev has made a very stable app with some very good features - but it's the missing features that really hobble this app to the point where the customizing of the overall .dmg folder/file is very limited. If users really wanted to be limited to a very restrictive set of features, then it would be fine. If the dev expanded the individual customization features more it would be well worth the price. Currently it is not. (Version 1.6)

SYROSL Glimmer is great but it keeps running as background process whether you use it or not,... And I just talk to the Dev and there told me the 64 bit saft is their goal, and now they are busy doing the code rewriting, so from my side I'll wait for that. (Version 12.0b)

Saft | Sep 20 2009 |
FOTODIVR GLIMS is different than GLIMMER... GLIMS is SAFT on steroids and it is free and it is true 64 bit. And the Developers are VERY responsive. I switched to GLIMS and am VERY happy. VERY. GLIMS has all of the features of SAFT and none of the hassles. (Version 12.0b2)

Saft | Sep 21 2009 |
MRGLSMRC you dont seem to be reviewing saft, which is excellent. what you are reviewing is the price of a competing app. and you haven't discussed a single feature. saft uses simbl which is a haxie. not a secret readily available info. i think you are just spamming for glims. glims never sells itself on its own merits but uses a fear close that its competitors are somehow less stable. i see this as a form of spamming which is why i responded here. in fairness to glims i have not taken the time to review it but it must have some merits with so many vocal advocates. i cannot know how well written it is or how it changes the security of my browsing or os without giving it a run through. but saft is so safe and reliable that why should i bother? you complain too much about the modest cost of saft. i like to know how the developer writing free software monetizes his product. how many poor rubes put limewire on their system and took major performance hits because of its little tricky hooks? there aint no free lunch and saft is damn cheap for what it does. but mostly i do use omniweb over safari these days so i am less on top of the issue than i should be to write about it. but all this spamming for glims pisses me off. i don't trust such vacant enthusiasm. one of the things i love about saft is the way it organizes downloads by daily folders. saft had private browsing and thumbnails before safari did. saft manages blocked ad servers extremely well. wheresoever safari goes saft leads the way. i don't give a r@ts @$$ about glims. take it back to your school! Thunderbird | Sep 15 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN A very capable mail app that is very easy to use. It's biggest strength is in it's thrid-party add ons, making it (almost) endlessly customizable. Only one minor deficiency - great it has the ability to auto-create Gmail accounts now. This is useless however, if you have IMAP Gmail like I do, for it only creates a POP account. Once I set it up (manually) it works great. On the whole however, it work great, is very stable, and since I have had MAJOR problems getting Apple Mail to savvy with my IMAP Gmail account, the one I use! (Version 2.0.0.23)

ROBERTCOOGAN This saved my bacon many times. I lived in Okinawa for four years, plus my wife is from Thailand. So I have DVDs from three different regions, and occasionally I have to reset the drive. Many thanks to the devs for this one! (Version 1.7)

32- or 64-bit Kernel Startup Mode Selector | Sep 11 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN Definitely helped me out, now I have finally installed Vista (yes, I was stoopid to buy it, but I already spent the money), so I can now use Excel 2007. The dev has done a great job of making a low maintenance, easy to use app. The inability to use some third-party apps while in 64 bit mode is annoying, but the dev built in a really obvious warning. ROBERTCOOGAN September 10, 2009 10:44AM PDT We will be performing maintenance on this comment on Tuesday, September 11, 2009. the downtime will begin at 3:00AM and end at 11:00AM PDT. Blizzard does so many of these same sorts of downtimes, it makes you wonder as to the reliability of their servers which require a lot of maintenance! But an awesome game nonetheless. YouTube Downloader | Sep 4 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN I don't want any YouTube downloader app to auto-convert the videos I download and auto-import them into iTunes. Annoying! This is why I really like YouTube Downloader - it's super-simple to use and lets me pick the destination folder for the videos. One small problem has appeared under Snow Leopard however, my cursor will dissapear and I have to shake the mouse around in order to get it to reappear, or command+tab to switch to another app to get it to reappear. Hopefully the dev will issue an update that will get rid of this one small bug. (Version 1.8)

ROBERTCOOGAN It's a shame that such a useful haxie won't be ready in time for Snow Leopard's release. It seems that Unsanity is perpetually behind the curve ball when it comes to timeliness. This shouldn't come as a surprise however, and Dana Sutton is right - all the more reason to break the haxie habit. It's a shame that the devs are so slow to update. (Version 2.5.2)

AirRadar | Sep 1 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN iStumbler is more than capable of doing what Airradar can. So is KisMAC for that matter. What Airadar has that they don't is ill-informed defensive posts. And the only complaint anybody has really made is that it costs money, when others do the same thing for free. No complaints about lack of capabilities. No complaints about looks. Mactechhead, please read a bit more into the reviews next time. You have a lot of nerve criticizing the "n00bs" when you yourself offer very little substantive in your posts. (Version 1.2.1)

Outspring Mail | Sep 1 2009 |
ROBERTCOOGAN A solid and very simple e-mail client...but it doesn't offer any outstanding features that could possibly justify the cost. If it came with an integrated calendar, or planner, or something like that, it could possible justify a $20 cost. But the adaptive intelligent software feature needs a lot more work. It rarely worked correctly, and I found it to be a pain. Possibly a business could make use of this sort of feature - but again, this isn't integrated with anything like a planner that could justify the cost. On the plus side, it has one of the nicest GUIs out there. But looks don't make the grade when the app behind it can't offer anything truly substantial. (Version 1.1.1)

ROBERTCOOGAN Then the question begs itself: Why spend all of that time coding on an application when there are free versions that do the exact same thing? I am not "dissing" on anybody...for if the dev wrote this an wanted to charge money for it, it would naturally offer something substantial in the way of features to justify the expense. Consumers are not stupid, nor are they fools - this offers NOTHING NEW to justify the cost. (Version 2.1)

ROBERTCOOGAN Ok. There are MANY options out there that offer the same functionality for free. That's right...for FREE. Why the dev wants people to pay I don't know. I'm not a GUI freak, I just want it to work - i.e., to allow me to save YouTube vids to my Mac. This does not offer anything new or substantial that would compel me to spend cash for it. There are plenty of free alternatives out there. (Version 2.1)

ALEXANDER I really hate people dissing on software you have to pay for. If you can use a free tool then just do and ignore shareware tools. Period! But don't flame on programmers who do ask a little bit of money for all the hard coding they done. It is not encouraging and is only intended to insult people/programmers. I cannot find any other reason why you do this. Leave it and grow up and show some maturity please. And if you can do it better. Please do. (Version 2.1)

JEFFISHERETOO Sorry, but there is NOTHING wrong with letting people know there are better and FREE options out there. I think anyone that would take the time to write something that's already been done, many times, and offered for free, then try to charge for it, needs to do better market and competitive research and is in no way entitled to anyones money through ignorance. ROBERTCOOGAN Great point about other apps being available in the bundle from the developer. Trouble is, the previous comments do make a really good point - one, that this app is selling a feature that is available through other apps for free; and two, that it is trying to sell something that is essentially unsellable (see first point). Sorry, Charlie - this tune's going somewhere else. (Version 1.2.6)

ROBERTCOOGAN I currrently work with UAV's (AAI's Shadow 200) for a living, and if you are looking for UAV-like realism, this is going to disappoint you. This is simply a straight fly-and-shoot game with very simple graphics and an even simpler soundtrack and sound effects. The Dev should expand this to include more complex and UAV-like missions, to include intelligence collection; close air support; strike, coordination, and reconnaissance; and artillery adjustment. Actual work with UAVs is both tooth-pulling boring and stressful, with none of the actual cockpit-jarring thrills an actual manned aircraft pilot experiences. A good start, but this really needs much, much, more work to be considered a "UAV" game. (Version 1.4)

ROBERTCOOGAN I bought this waaaaaaay back, and my registration ran out. Great app, but one thing that bugs me...the dev could make it much more successful if they made it web-based. I use it now but only on occasion. I can see most users buying what it can offer on the same basis, but only as a novelty item. As a permanent app, no. The average user can't make much of it that way. But I wish the devs would expand it...it is such a great concept if they sold what it can do on a per service basis it would be better. This isn't a negative criticism! It really is a good idea..., but needs to be expanded (access-wise) without the associated cost. (Version 1.5.1)
