DONMONTALVO  Yes, Microsoft Office 2008 apps are incredibly slow to launch...very painful. More stable though, than in previous years.

FOXSTRONG  Try SSD. Almost all applications on my MBP launch within 3 seconds.

ESPIRIDION  For me the solution was to do a clean install of OS X (10.5.3) a while ago. Launching Office applications takes roughly 10 seconds, and from what I recall it used to take over a minute.

This helped not only with Office, but also with other applications that would not even launch under 10.5.

I also reduced the number of active fonts back then, but today I have around 200 active fonts. I did remove damaged/corrupted fonts.

Dual 2 GHz PPC, 10.5.8, 8GB RAM.

MAGENTIS  Sidebar also showing up when disabled for me too. Also, Safari's built in 'Reopen Windows from Last Session' option seems to be gone from the History menu.

RINCKER  - open file from open-menu crashes ID, have to double-click in finder

- ID autohides from time to time and doesn't unhide anymore

- multiple opened documents lead to unexpected crashes

- in order to use the print or export menu I have to launch ID then open a new document, then print, save as PDF and go back again and close the new file. then it will work for some time. After every relaunch. It isn't a big deal but it's annoying.

- you cannot use spaces with CS3

- Photoshop crashes and corupts font-caches -> Font-Nuke -> restart system.

That's what i meant. I hoped that Apple would fix it more with 10.5.5 but it's the same as in 10.5.4.

MISHA  I don't use ID much so I haven't noticed those problems... I have had issues with PS in the past, but a clean install of CS3 fixed it. Never had the font issue, but I had the problem where PS wouldn't open PNGs because it "wasn't a supported file type" (right). I suppose you've tried clean installing CS3 again? Given that the blog post notes that it's a "relatively small percentage" I'm not sure it's fair to claim that CS3 doesn't work with 10.5, it's obviously the case with just certain configurations. Still, that's a bummer about your problems.

CHRISB1  Same here - hispeed login doesn't work anymore.

I got the same issue on 2 different Macs and I also reconfigured the Keychain item but to no avail.
