RIDOGI  This drives me crazy too. I changed Command W to close tabs in keyboard prefs, but now if I am in the main window and hit Command W it closes a tab I am not looking at (which I can undo fortunately). This change is clearly a downgrade from the previous version where Command W would close the main window or a tab depending on where you were at the time.

RIDOGI  I was being prompted to purchase the pro version, but it is now accepting my serial and let me upgrade to "pro." That process really should have been automatic, but I take back the complaint in my above review. ***** five stars.

**...

RIDOGI  I purchased the lifetime upgrades when I bought version 1, which is apparently going to get me all of zero upgrades because that only gets me to the crippled version 2, not the "pro" version 2 that is faster and has all the search results. This seems like a pretty shameless move on the part of the developer. I like the software, but this is really no way to treat your paying customers.

The search is nicely integrated, and this program works well. I'm all for supporting developers with your money, but this upgrade is quite a slap to the face. There are many alternatives such as Transmission and I'd suggest seeking them out instead of this.

PL_SVN  oh, sure... haven't noticed that! :-/

XTorrent v2 "regular" (the free update, given you already paid the extra "lifetime updates" fee) is crippled exactly as v1.x unregistered was. The real update is now called "Pro" (*same full speed* as 1.1) but... hey: it's a different app, and you have to pay for it!! ;-P

Guys, do yourself a favor: stay away from this developer!!!

RIDOGI  I tried this long ago and found it to be unstable. It has matured nicely and I find it to be lightweight, stable and fully featured to control the connections going out of my Mac. Excellent!

RIDOGI  This is the best Ad Blocker for Safari. The addition of the toolbar button is most welcome. A right click to create custom rules would be great, but that is my only (minor) complaint. Great program.

RIDOGI  This is as good as flash is bad. That is to say very good indeed. Maybe a sort or find option for the white list would be nice, but that is a minor complaint. This is an excellent program.

STEVERB511  "This is as good as flash is bad." The problem isn't really that Flash is bad, its developers/designers/managers who use it badly. I've had to fend off customers and managers from time-to-time who want to use it as "beads for the natives" rather than just using it where its animation and programming features are appropriate for the content. Flash is a tool that can be used for evil or good -- designers and managers need to be more educated and judicious in its use. ClickToFlash helps deal with evil part. Hear that Flashkit.com? (And many others.)

MenuCalendarClock iCal

*****

RIDOGI  The pop down calendar on the clock should have been built into the OS. This is great for quickly viewing iCal and getting a glance of your day. The customization options are great (which calendars to include, how many days, etc). Tool tip hover overs mean I can see what is happening on any day. I only go to iCal to edit my calendar now. The search option is not on by default, but it is there. Well worth the money.

ShoveBox

****.

RIDOGI  Of all the apps that provide a way to organize the clutter of the desktop, this is the easiest to get the data into it, and the only one that provides an "Inbox" so I can go back to it later to sort things into subfolders. More features like subfolders and a keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot and paste the result directly into shovebox would be welcome. It is also lacking an export option.

RIDOGI  This is an excellent replacement for autotfill and keychain saved passwords. It takes autofill a step further than the tools built into the OS by making it easy to have different passwords for each site rather than the "one password for everything" rut that people fall into. It also lets you be browser independent, lets you autofill credit card info, and generate strong passwords easily from within the browser right when you are asked to create a password. If you use Safari you gain the ability to add passwords after you know they are correct, as Firefox 3 does--useful if you are guessing your way into something that was not saved into your keychain and has the result that incorrect passwords don't pollute your keychain. If you have multiple identities such as two logins to a webmail it lets you easily choose which one you want to use. The free iPhone app is great and a bug fix for PPC syncing was released I believe the day it hit the app store. In short Everything about this application seems well thought out and while the price seems high for something that replaces tools built into the OS, after using it it feels like a bargain.

My only complaint is that imported keychain items use the date of their import, so you will have to do a bit of house cleaning as older keychain items that were no longer used (because of password changes) are brought back into use (as they all have the exact same date). I'd suggest cleaning up your existing keychain before doing the import.

****.

RIDOGI  This connects so much faster than VPN Tracker, is very unobtrusive (lives in the menu bar, no app needed to make connections), and it's free. It also can export profiles and supports multiple connections, which requires the Pro version of VPN Tracker.

The drawbacks are the app itself crashes when editing profiles and connections, the connections and profile windows are not resizable, and new connections are added to the current profile by default (which is annoying).

The other downside is that exporting profiles no longer works on my computer (it did for a while, but now gives an error that I must choose a password, even though I did.)

This app shows potential. I use it over VPN Tracker, and if the stability issues were worked out it would be great.

thank you very much for your review. The export problem has been identified and fixed (see http://www.lobotomo.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1195575910 , release to come).

I'd very interested to learn more about the crashes you describe, and to fix them, of course. Could you please get in touch with me at lobotomo@lobotomo.com?

Thank you very much,

Christoph

RIDOGI  It's great to be able to have the battery icon turn red when you're running low -- really catches the eye so you don't get caught off guard. The only thing I'd like to see in it is the ability to switch between the energy saver modes as in Apple's standard menu bar icon.

RIDOGI  Very nice mac like interface. I like that it stays there if my mouse is over it and I can click through as I read messages, but it unobtrousively stays out of the way if I ignore it. Very customizable as far as appearance. My only complaint is that it does not have a flag (and mark as read) button.

RIDOGI  This is *the* disk cloning app. A few years ago it surpassed CCC and it just keeps getting better. Under the hood it's the only one that copies everything such as meta data and ACLs correctly. It's got a beautiful interface that explains exactly what you're doing so it's idiot proof. I would like the ability to choose to exclude certain files instead of just all files or all user files (for backing up purposes). The smart update and copy different options are great -- they make this function as a backup app as well as a cloning app. I have this set on a schedule to do a smart update every day to back up my hard drive.

PocketMac for Blackberry

*....

RIDOGI  As an IT consultant I'd just like to add another 1 star rating to the pile. This program is buggy, un-mac like, and basically rarely works. The installer is so poorly written that it can't even install in a standard account. It's rare that free program manages to be a rip-off, but somehow pocket mac does it.

This app is the reason the iPhone is going to be huge...

RIDOGI  So mac like it's surprising it's not built in to mail.app as a preference. It's stable and is free. My one complaint is that after a search the middle column gets messed up, but clicking on another folder restores it back to normal.

RIDOGI  This is a great app to organize notes. It's got a great interface a has good keyboard shortcuts once you learn them. It's simple enough to use and organize notes within it, and it allows spotlight searching and easy linking to files on your computer. There are so many to do / notepad apps that go overboard with getting things done, tagging, and convoluted interfaces. This one gets it right. I don't want to work to be organized. I just want to *be* organized. This lets me do it. Very mac like. It's a bit expensive compared to some competitors, but if it fits your need it's worth every penny.

RIDOGI  This is an excellent app. I haven't replaced command tab, but it bridges the gap between command tab and command tilde nicely. The ability easily bring up a specific minimized window is incredibly useful. I do have a few suggestions to make this app even better.

1. Adopt command tab's tilde for reversing the direction in addition to shift.

2. Adopt command tab's quick change (with just a tap of the tab key) between the two most recent windows without showing the witch window.

Those complaints said, this thing is a great addition to my workflow and has earned 5 stars across the board. $ has been sent via the link on the author's page. I look forward to future versions of this.

Chicken of the VNC

RIDOGI  There seems to be a bug that when clicking without any keys produces the effect of holding either command or control. So sometimes every click I make brings up a contextual menu (or a dock menu if I am launching an app from the dock), and sometimes clicking on an app in the dock opens the app's enclosing folder.

This is for a mac --> mac connection, and I don't have any of the universal access options turned on such as sticky keys.
