RIDGE  I installed Ghost 1.0 a few months ago. It`s a good program, providing a simple way to hide particular folders and make them visible again when needed.

Unfortunately, I`ve been unable to install any update. 1.1 didn`t work, and 2.0 still won`t install. Same problem: dialog box says the program is installing and will restart but nothing happens, no matter how long I wait.

I hope the developer fixes this persistent problem before working on the next release!

RIDGE  Thanks to the developers for their helpful and quick reply to my problem. Fixed! A short read-me on installing would`ve been nice (for people like me who don`t really know what they`re doing!), but it definitely looks like I`m keeping Ghost after all.

RIDGE  Added a couple folders to Ghost the first time I used it. Ticked the box for one to make it invisible. It worked straight away, no problem.

Decided I didn`t want one of the two folders in Ghost`s list, so I selected it and clicked `clear`. Both of the folders disapeared. The first is still hidden. Lucky it doesn`t contain anything I need right away!

But still, this is a problem for someone like me who`s never used a command-line interface and who is new to Macs.

I should state that this problem occurred on version 1.0. I don`t know if it`s better on 1.1 because when I clicked `Check for updates...` and clicked to install the new version, the update just froze. Computer still working at the time, but Activity Monitor showing Ghost`s CPU usage at around 99%. (The computer`s brand new and experiencing no other problems whatsoever.)

So I go to this page on MacUpdate, click the download button for version 1.1, and find that it just installs version 1.0. Thinking maybe they just didn`t update the `About Ghost` info, I click on `Check for updates...` again, and once again get the message that version 1.1 is available to install.

So it seems that the developers haven`t actually posted version 1.1 as advertised.

And now I need to know how to unhide that folder!

PHILIP ALLEN  You can unhide that missing folder by checking the box to show all hidden files, then hitting restart finder. Find the hidden folder and drag it back in.

RIDGE  CORRECTION:

You can re-order both the lists and the items on the lists. I apologise for this mistake in my previous comment. (Is there no way for me to edit my original post?)

Checkmarker

RIDGE  Plus:

-Small.

-Easy to use.

-Can mark items as important.

Minus:

-If you don`t pay $5 for Checkmarker Plus, you can only create four lists.

-They don`t tell you this on the download page. It doesn`t help that the screenshot on the same page shows a Checkmarker with 5 lists. Furthermore, the download page only says the paid-for version "features new themes and export options", whereas the information button on the widget itself tells you to "buy it now to add unlimited number of pages..."

I hope this was just an innocent omission...

-Would be nice if you could re-order the lists, or individual items on particular lists.

I can see that this program would be really useful if you wanted to keep track of a small number of to-dos in a small number of lists. I don`t recommend it if, like me, you want to add reasonably long shopping lists or something like that.
