I have been using CrossOver Mac 6.2.1 on my C2D Blackbook and had mixed results playing Steam games. After installing Crossover Games and creating a symlink to my old CrossOver Mac bottle, I fired up Steam and was really pleased. All of the graphical glitches I experienced in Team Fortress 2 are gone and the frame rate and load times are both noticably improved. I wish this had been out back when I bought CrossOver Mac because I got it for gaming back then! Thankfully this is FREE if you are already a CrossOver Mac owner. Thanks, Codeweavers!

Diablo 2 runs fine on Intel Macs in software mode with some minor slowdown. If you need a native OS X installer (older discs don't have it), download it from Blizzard's support site. Hold down option while launching to choose software mode instead of opengl. OR you can run open GL windowed mode just fine. Simply setup the game to run OpenGL and when you get the "bouncing" title image screen after opening cinematics, hit COMMAND-M to go to windowed mode and the graphics will clear up fine. The only downer is that the game is still low resolution by today's standards (max of 800 x 600) and that means windowed mode is TINY on your Macbook with a 13" screen.

Tested on mid-2007 blackbook. Runs Steam / Team Fortress 2 BETTER than with Bootcamp. For some reason, all the graphical glitches with Boot Camp are gone, save one new one (chat text is garbled). I am so glad I tried this out as I am now going to ditch my bootcamp partition and go with Crossover for my Steam gaming experience. Great product just keeps getting better. Its not the answer for everything, but gaming performance for me and my macbook far outshines any other solution I've tried on this hardware including bootcamp, parallels and vmware. I've bought the linux crossover product in the past before I went over to the Mac and Codeweavers has really taken their product to another level with the help of the hardworking WINE devs.

Have been playing since June 2006. Game has had continuous updates since I've started that have each added content and new capabilities. Developer team is extremely responsive and truly loves their community. New community dev team has full access to source code and refinements to the UI and help systems are coming at a n incredible pace at present. This is the best gaming value out there. One time fee gets you unlimited online play and the ability to play offline single player seals the deal. You can play the trial for an unlimited period. There is no way to lose! Try it out. If you liked the original EQ but want a really nice community that feels cozy and more intimate, this is the game for you. Runs great on my 1.42ghz mini with only 32 mb graphics ram at 1280x1024 in low graphics mode (all you need). Absolutely first class indie game. (they just doubled the server count too, so former lag problems seem a thing of the past)
