RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Thank you soooooo very much for this app. I have been a lover of this app since it's beginnings.

I eagerly await to see what's in store with this update. I download every update religiously, I don't even know what is new...at 50+Mb I am anxious.

You will always have a faithful user here!!!!

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  A quick fix may be to enter a password like "sample", click the keychain checkbox to add it to your keychain, then go to your keychain access in your utilities folder and change the password for "com.electriceelprod.nameofapp" to be "" (type two double quotes)

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  So in your Accounts, you have no password entered in for your user? So when asked by any other app or installer, you just leave it blank?

I have never heard of such a thing, but I will address it as soon as I can. It is probably a quick fix, and a new version will be available shortly, so this complaint will be fixed in the new version.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Um, I never received your email, curious which address you sent it to. Okay, so you need admin rights only when you plan on changing someone else's account. Like when you choose to empty trash on all users. Sadly, any app that changes something with the system will need an admin password. Like "Maintenance" or "Shutdown".

Nov 29 2007

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Tomorrow first thing. I have a new re-vamped version 2.0.4

New will be link support:

You can now use a symbolic link for your "Virtual DVD Library", so that your Virtual DVDs can be stored on an External drive.

Free update to those who have paid for this.

This new version is way more stable.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  I can't believe you can't see the very big differences in my app. PlayVideo_TS simply plays the folder in DVDPlayer. My app actually keeps a Library of your DVDs and lets you play them from Front Row or from the Virtual DVDs interface.

The big point here is "FRONT ROW"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is why I am charging. By the way, did you even download it and see what it does. I bet you didn't.

Maybe you didn't notice that this is Version 2.0.2

I came out with Virtual DVDs a long time ago. Second, everyone who used my free version 1.0 has asked to get this working with Front Row. Now it does!

Oh boy, you have got to be kidding me. Pardon me if I charge for it. I think that is my business not yours. Don't buy it.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Thanks for your rave review....and sorry you could not download 1.0.2.

I am coming out with 2.0. This is quite a re-vamp, so check it out. Get a sneak peak at:

http://software.electriceelprod.com/toolbarextras.html

Unfortunately, I have put so much time into this, that there will be a 45 launch limit to this version. some of the apps will continue to work as freeware, but there are some (the very very very useful ones) that will require that you obtain a "Receipt" file as proof of purchase. Once you have this file, You have unlimited access.

One app that is not on the sneak peak is "Maintenance.app". It let's your remove .DS_Store files, clean caches, and perform system maintenance scripts.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  So, after some steady work, I have developed what I believe to be the "Final" set of Toolbar Extras.

Burn, Delete, Details, Eject, File, Folder, GoToFolder, Home, Info, Invisible, Pause, Permissions, Refresh, Server, Shutdown, Toggle, Trash, and Up.

Details will be available shortly. Some of these will be free, however there will be some that require a "Receipt" file to get past the 45 launch trial.

the newest set is much much better than the originals.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Oh, don't thank me. It is my responsibility to respond to any users of my software.

Thanks to you for downloading it. Wait a couple more days (maybe sooner) for a new version of this product with new tools and (you guessed it) bigger icons to match the system better. I am still debating how to offer this. I like the idea of donationware, but I am not sure. One new tool (Permissions) has taken me quite some time, so freeware may not be available.

Do you have suggestions?

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  try this:

Paste in script editor and run:

--begin

tell application "Finder"

set theDisk to the startup disk

tell application "System Events"

set the visible of alias ((theDisk) as text) to true

end tell

quit

end tell

repeat

try

tell application "Finder" to activate

exit repeat

end try

end repeat

--end

Note:

You may want to do this while logged in as the root user. If, of course you have the root user enabled.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Use "Toggle.app" to show all invisibles. Then select the item you wish to affect. While it is selected, use "Invisible.app", select "Visible", then use "Toggle.app" to hide the invisibles again.

You may have to use "Go to Folder" from the "Go" Menu in the Finder and go to "/Volumes" and select it from there.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Working on it.

However, There is just no need to replace some of the current finder toolbar items. How can I imrove on the back/forward buttons, or the list view/icon view/column view buttons?

As a note, though I will mention that I am currently developing one to help customize ownership/permissions, one to replace "Go to Folder", one that will strip all custom icons from your selection would be very useful and cool, and one that will immediately put your system to sleep.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  I was thinking the same thing about the visible/invisible thing.

For clarity:

Do you want to be able to make a selection invisible? If, so, how would you ever select it again to make it visible (without the use of another app.

Or would you rather be able to just toggle the viewing of invisibles? You know...like, show invisibles/hide invisbles.

Probably would have to add a GUI app that launches when the Key is inserted and from there maybe a small launcher list of apps.

GIZMOMO  This is an interesting idea. I don't think I would use it only because of the 'sleep' idea. I would love something for locking access to a server, but it won't do having it go to sleep with the key removed. Have a locking screen saver or something, but not sleep. Sleep stops all work a server may be doing, making it not much of a server, albiet quite secure ;)

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Okay, now I have even gotten past the single-user-mode. Now I can make the machine just reboot itself if single-user-mode is ever entered. HA!!!!!!!!!!!

I even set up a function that checks to see if the machine was just booted. If it was just booted the daemon pauses for 15 seconds to let all the Volumes mount. This prevents the machine from going to sleep immediately after startup because the disk is inserted but hasn't been mounted yet.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Okay, just for kicks, I created a little test daemon. Bootied in safe-mode and it worked. Then I booted into single-user-mode and of course I was presented with a command-prompt. I tried to "rm /path/to/my/daemon" with several different combos of options, It dod not work!!!!!!! The prompt told me that it was a read-only filesystem.

Now, I think everybody knows that you could always just boot the machine in target-disk-mode, connect it to another mac and get everything you want off of it. So, I guess you could get what you want off the machine in single-user-mode also.

RAYMONDLEWISJONES  Okay, I created an un-installer found here:

http://software.electriceelprod.com/Uninstall_Security_Key.zip

As for the rest of the comments. Okay, not to be mean, but isn't the point of this to provide more security. Now how could someone steal your USB Key if you have it on you at all times. If you left it in your computer wouldn't that defeat the point.

And, no, this is not spyware or anything. Actually, I am considered making this even more interesting. Like, specific "tuned" Network settings and System Preferences that will only be applied when the Key is in. Also, the ability to make a "Valet" key (like you get with a new car, i.e: it only unlocks the door, but does not work on the trunk or glove compartment). this would be useful so that you could make different keys for everyone in your family. This way you do not have to bother with "user switching".

What do you think, worth $5 maybe?
