SteerMouse

RANSKY  I've used SteerMouse for about a year with a Logitech MX revolution wireless mouse. A program I was using didn't behave right with the Logitech drivers and SteerMouse was the fix. SteerMouse is a great program...does what it's supposed to do, in the background, and doesn't conflict with anything else on my system.

RANSKY  Keeping in mind this is still beta...I've found this program simple, clean, and straight forward. Very quick to enter tasks. I've tried Omni Focus as well, but this is the one I use.

Infovox iVox

RANSKY  I've purchased both the US English and British English voices...they are top-notch. I've not found any other voices for the Mac that are as good. I use them to proof things I've written (nothing like having someone read your material back to you), as well as (with the GhostReader application) listening to text files read by one of the voices on my iPod. I do tend to find a favorite voice that I'll use 90% of the time, but it's nice to have the others available to add some variety.

RANSKY  Outstanding for novel writing. I've tried many, and Scrivener's simplicity and ease of are great. Handles chapters and scenes well through project folders and documents. Allows me to focus on writing, not software. Highly recommended.

RANSKY  Hi Kknopp - perhaps it was a combination of running Onyx and then Disk Utility? Either way, I ended up with an inop hard drive. I should probably add I adjusted no settings on the computer...just fired up Onyx, and then ran Disk Utility per the instructions Onyx provided. Disk Utility bailed out with the 'invalid node structure' error. It's been about a month since then and the hard disk has run fine since (after a time machine restore).

RANSKY  Be careful - I downloaded and installed Onyx on my Macbook and afterwards my hard drive would not mount (computer could not execute startup). When I ran the program, the initialization routines said the hard disk needed repairs, and to use the Leopard install disk disk utility program. The utility program said the drive had an invalid node structure (or something along those lines). Up to this point, my hard drive and computer had been working fine. I do not believe it was coincidence. I was able to recover the drive with a restore from my Time Machine backups, and it's running fine now.
