TaskPaper
Dec 16 2008
*****

RANDOMMAC  Simple, speedy and flexible.

The TaskPaper upgrade to 2.0 makes the difference between night and day for me. What was just an intriguing concept — a simple paper-look to do manager — is now my default note taking and to do manager.

I started out with iGTD, but got overwhelmed by the endless forms to fill. I like "Things", but never quite got comfortable with it. I tried OmniFocus, but Things and OF became ends in themselves, constant temptation to overfocus on the process and not on results.

I love TP2's speed and flexibility. It doesn't tax my aging PowerBook, it gives me very little to distract me, yet makes it easy to customize tags on the fly. The ability to narrow my focus is essential, and TP makes that easy. Jumping back and forth between individual projects or contexts and the project list is smooth and fast.

Thanks, Hog Bay, for making the upgrade from 1.0 to 2.0 free. I wasn't even going to try it out, but the online tutorial sold me. If you haven't watched it, do so now! Then download the demo and try it yourself.

iPaste

RANDOMMAC  I love iClip's interface, but hate its memory usage. I use PTH Pasteboard, but its interface is clunky, and doesn't always work on my 12" PowerBook....Time to give iPaste a try! Good price.

Pangea Arcade
Oct 20 2007

RANDOMMAC  Warning: Highly addictive and waaay cool. Bling factor off the scale! Classic arcade games that run smoothly on my PowerBook G4 and my iMac G5. The arcade versions never looked this good! I've got mine already. And I'm not playing these at work. Really. Whoops, gotta go.

RANDOMMAC  I don't do a lot of photos or photo processing, but I do put out a monthly newsletter and rudimentary web site for our nonprofit group. This looks like it'll get me past the gee-I-don't-wanna-hassle-with-that-again phase....

Librarian Pro
Oct 9 2007

RANDOMMAC  I love the developer's work; I own two of his other apps, but I'm looking for an inexpensive app that will catalog my data CD's. I can't see a way to do that with this.

I'd use this for books, except that it doesn't scan the Library of Congress like Booxter does.

RANDOMMAC  If you've ever tried to record a meeting in order to type up minutes -- or recorded a lecture intending to type up notes later -- you know the frustration of keeping up with the speaker or various speakers. This looks like a great simplifier, and I need a little simplicity! Now if only it would type them for me, or attend the meetings in the first place in my stead....

RANDOMMAC  I won GC, and wish it had a clean interface like this....I'll have to download and give it a try! (I also already own some of this developer's software...it's a good company.)

*****

RANDOMMAC  Lovely screensaver, quietly mesmerizing, and worth showing off. I love the dozens of customization options, including the option to run on the main screen only. Universal binary is a plus as well.

My only quibble is that the screensaver didn't install automatically with a double click. (Just drag it to your /Library/Screen Savers folder, as the accompanying Read Me instructs.) Excellent!

Keyboard Maestro

RANDOMMAC  One of the very few things I miss about OS 9 is the ability to use KeyQuencer, a light-on-its-feet macro maker that allowed me to automate a tremendous amount of program and document functions. It looks like this just might be the ticket!

viJournal Lite
May 11 2007
****.

RANDOMMAC  This is a simple, solid, uncluttered journaling app., a nice piece of freeware that has upgrade options (vijournal), but has plenty of functionality as it stands. With the ability to encrypt, this is has significant value, and stands out from the crowd of other simplistic note pad software apps. You get more than you pay for with viJournal Lite.
