Absolutely one of the most essential apps for my Mac and the first thing I install on every Mac I get. I donated as soon as this newest release was put out - I'm surprised it's still donationware, actually.

1.2 crashes on startup for me, while 1.1 worked before. 10.4.11, MacBook Pro C2D 2.16 Ghz/2 GB RAM. I can send a crash log if it might be helpful.

(Disclaimer: I do run APE, and 1.1 did crash until I set APE to exclude Scribblet, whereupon it worked fine afterwards.)

I can now report with delight that I can do searches for terms in texts without crashes. Additionally, MacSword no longer nags me to "upgrade" to 1.2.1b. Finally, I can switch from the aging BibleReader Free back to MacSword.

If you think that Camino is such an awful browser, then why don't you download the Mozilla source and code your own version?

A great browser, made by Mac users, for Mac users. It's a proper UI citizen on the Mac OS, it's fast, and it's a pleasure to use. The developers on the MozillaZine forum for Camino are friendly, prompt and helpful when it comes to help requests, too. Bravo to the developers, for the hard work they've put into making Camino what it is now.

Baseline lacks the nifty radial view that WhatSize now has, but I like the look of their Tree View mode a lot more than GrandPerspective and Disk Inventory X.

Oh yes, and Baseline is much, much faster than any of them.

For me, this does what no other application that I know of (shareware or freeware) does: allow you to attach sticky notes to applications - that made it a must-buy for me. This means that I now truly get the reminders and to-dos that I need to see, when I need to see them - they're not constantly in my face, cluttering up my workspace, especially if they're not immediately pertinent to what I'm doing.

Paperclip does something similar, and while I'm sure it's a fine product from a good developer, it attaches its stickies on a per-window/per-document basis, and according to some reviews only allows for one sticky per window/document. That means that for my needs, for now anyway, Sticky Notes is what fits the bill.

I just wish development on this app were more active.

Sadly, I have to echo your own observations - the scheduler keeps on recording radio shows even after I've told it not to record them, and it'll often record different streams at times from the ones I've set it to record.

I'd also like more control over audio playback from within Radioshift - I know RA probably envisioned us using iTunes for playback, but often, I myself don't want to bother with going to another app for even just basic audio playback controls.

I hope 1.0.5 goes some way towards fixing this.

The only caveats you would have had in running DW4 with 10.5 is that you shouldn't have run it when booted in 10.5, or that you should only run it when booted from a 10.4 volume (which is a a moot point since you can typically only repair your boot disk by starting up from the CD anyway), and that you wouldn't be able to use DW4 on FileVaults created from within Leopard.

If you have a lot of data locked up in FileVault then I can understand your anxiety, but it's not like upgrading to 10.5 made DW4 useless to you.

I don't understand why people are complaining so hard - Alsoft said we'd get a CD updater to 4.1 for registered users, and we got one. Were people expecting a free MacBook Air to go with it too, or what?

And furthermore, if you're going to give an app a 1-star rating, do it on the merit of the app itself, not the company selling it. You're rating DiskWarrior, not Alsoft.

I'm still getting the occasional AppleScript errors with this, (and I think they stopped when I told it not to parse the Clipboard for URLs) but all in all, this is the perfect "Web 2.0" app for me. It's unobtrusive, and its focus on updating your own status (as opposed to reporting the status of others) is what makes this app a better fit for me than Twiterriffic.

And thankfully, this works a lot better for me than the previous version did.

For people turned off by the new HUD/bezel interface, the floating window is a substantial improvement. I was surprised with the menu animations but they don't seem to incur that much of a performance hit.

All in all, a very welcome update - I actually prefer the newer HUD-style interface to the older Aqua-based interface.

Hint: If you're feeling l337 enough, option-click the "Settings..." button for some extra preferences (like disabling menu fading, which gives a big performance boost).

Daaaaamn. Even with Hog Bay's Academic Discount this is still cheaper. I took up Jesse Grosjean's offer of a free license to a blogger who'd review TaskPaper (he's also giving discounts to people who've already bought it but want to publicly blog about it), but at this price, I'd feel good about giving him something in return for such a brilliant app.

The reason why that is, is because the way PlugSuit apparently works is that it moves all of your SIMBL plug-ins to its own folder which it manages. Because they're not in the usual place (/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins) they don't work. I discovered this when I noticed that the "Edit in WriteRoom" and "Edit in TextMate" add-ons I installed disappeared from my menus.

Probably a future request would be that if installed on a Tiger install, it would leave the location of any SIMBL plug-ins present as-is, only moving them if they've been disabled in the prefpane.

Hi Niklas,

I am able to get it running, but the way the notification window is rendered is all wonky...it's rendered in large text with large icons on a totally transparent background.

I'm wondering if this might be a WebKit issue - this is on a 700 Mhz G3 iBook w/10.4.10 (incidentally, this works fine on an MBP).

For some reason which I can't understand, this plugin won't appear in Growl's list of display styles, even after a removal and reinstallation of the preference pane.

I'm guessing a .plist or something somewhere is corrupted or isn't working right, but I don't know what it could be.

An absolutely must-have utility; run, don't walk to get this. When I had (ultimately minor) configuration issues with 1.5 during its beta phase the developer always took the time to answer my questions.

I know Alex has worked long and hard on this release, so I congratulate him on finally getting 1.5 shipped.

If all of these people seem to truly hate and revile Thorsten Lemke and GraphicConverter, as much they seem to, my advice is to just stop complaining, and don't use it. GC is an app subject to constructive criticism of course, but the level of complaining here about it is just plain ridiculous.

No one is forcing you to use or even like GraphicConverter. If you don't, use something else. With the level of complaining about this program, Thorsten could be giving away a Mac Pro with GraphicConverter and people would still find something to whine about.

No, it's not useless. It still works, just fine - I don't think it's any more "slower" as an app, I think. It's just that Privoxy leads to more RAM usage since it's in Rosetta (though not a lot, I think).

And also, everything else is Universal too (like Vidalia).

For those of you complaining about what LemkeSoft did: this is pretty much why the devs of the apps of the bundle agreed to be part of that deal in the first place!

As the classic saying goes, "TANSTASAFFL". If they didn't do this they'd obviously be losing money - hence making shareware development more of a losing proposition for them.

This really isn't new - Delicious Monster and Macromates are both doing this with their products which were with the original MacHeist bundle (the reason why it hasn't happened yet is because of the delay with Leopard).

@sdotbailey

Try going to all of the various apps' vendor pages to download them - you can enter in the serial numbers later; don't worry, they'll probably get to you by the end of the week (since there's a flood of purchasers to keep up with now).

@Voodooboy: Also remember that MH tossed in Linkinus, Exces, Browseback, and now WriteRoom too, along with the betas for Pixelmator and Flow.

I've got to say, SRS iWow may be the sleeper hit of the bundle. I have to honestly say, it didn't make my $29 2-channel speakers sound like a $290 5.1 setup, but it does make songs sound a lot more "richer" (whatever that means - judging sound quality is so notoriously subjective).

I don't know if there's some actual effect or if it's all just a placebo but I will say that with it turned off it's like night-and-day; Madvillain sounds more like Barry Manilow without iWow turned on.

My God. People are still complaining about the MH SkunkWorks camera effect? (Not to single you out, arrgsmythe)

It's an _extremely_ simple prank that anyone can assemble with Quartz Composer; the recipe is here: http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/wlg/7409

It basically takes the input from your web camera and spits it out on the web page that it's embedded in. This is done by the Quartz Composer composition file in your browser - absolutely no data is being transmitted from your camera to anyone's web site. It's just a simple QuickTime redirect. There is no security risk, and there are no L337 h4XX0rz breaking in ur boxxen.

It's basically a very clever, very simple prank. Honestly, the mythos surrounding this is approaching MFI's "repair permissions/use combo updater/boot in safe mode/sacrifice goat to your Mac" approach to system updates.

I'd heard a lot about this when the betas first came out. Bravo to the devs for making this open source...

Good: It's quite fast and doesn't take up any more CPU/Memory than Mozilla. You can hide the menubar and dock icon when it launches to save space and hassle. Very nice.

Not So Good: It's crashed for no reason on me once, and I don't know how to configure the prefs once I've hidden the menubar and dock icon. The hotkey for making the window slide in and out doesn't seem to change when I change it in the preferences dialog - I had to change my spotlight hotkeys as a result because those conflicted with the defaults.

All in all, it's something I might use as my main browser from now on - it's a nice complement to other apps of the same style like sidenote and Xshelf.

I tried saving the scripts as "Run-Only", but that didn't help at all.

I wish this could work - it's a cool idea and it's something which could work perfectly with Butler. Pity it's unusable.

This is just what I needed for my small Mac network at my home, especially since xAFP doesn't seem to work. Growl support is an especially welcome feature.

I'm wondering if the menu could actually show the name of the computer/user that's sharing with the host computer (in addition to its IP address)...that would be a nice thing to have.
