PSYCHOS I'm in the same boat. The developer could have kept far more of us previously-loyal Saft users simply by not trying to wring every dollar out of us. The last straw was the initial 32-bit Snow Leopard update. It provided no new functionality, and from what I know of the innards of the OS and Safari, probably took the same 5 minutes as your usual Safari version bump for the developer to do. $8 for this? Sorry, no. I'm happy with Glims now. The only thing I miss from Saft is integrated ad-blocking. I'm using currently GlimmerBlocker; I'd rather have a plugin than have a proxy server running, but this meets my needs for now. Other than that, Glims has everything that Saft added for me, and more. (I don't think I could go without having "," and "." to move back and forth through tabs now, for one.) (Version 12.0.1)

PSYCHOS $25 for something that manages, if similarly priced by greedy developers, constitutes tens of thousands of dollars worth of software. Except, the packages in fink are generally free (and all free, as far as money goes.) You want people to pay you $25 for a simple wrapper to all of this? Are you really that desperate and greedy? I do hope anyone who has, for whatever reason, paid for this, returns it and tries to file a dispute with PayPal and/or their credit card company. This is an ABSOLUTE scam. (Version 3.0)

PSYCHOS Getting tired of posting comments on this obviously greedy developer's "tools." Enough people have posted how to do this for free, in less time than it would take you to even read this page. Man pages for pretty much all of these tools are on the web, as well. (Version 3.0)

PSYCHOS Why the hell would I pay $25 for something that's included for free with the OS? Either Unix find, if you want to use the Terminal, or Spotlight if you don't. This developer should be banned from posting "apps" on MacUpdate. He'll perhaps scam a few people into paying for his "tools." (Version 4.0)

PSYCHOS Wow, I feel sorry for anyone exploited by this developer. You can obviously do this quite well either from the shell, or from one MANY tools on the web if you don't want to use the shell. And most of those online tools give you better output; this doesn't even appear to support rwhois and other needed features. Again, if you have paid this developer money...I am sorry you had to get ripped off. (Version 2.0)

PSYCHOS Feature suggestion: It would be awesome to have multiple message lists available. That is, multiple copies of the mailbox list (if open) + message list on the left (with a separate columns header for each message list if possible, preferably toggleable), with a single preview pane on the right. You should be able to drag the message list separators to resize them. Things like individual sorting/threading options for each would be nice. I'd love to be able to have, say, 3 message lists open: One sized to about 60% vertical height for work email, one sized to 25% vertical height for personal email, and one sized to 15% vertical height for non-important work email (automated notifications and such.) I currently manage this by using rules to set background colors for different categories of work/personal mail (viewed as a unified inbox of two IMAP accounts), and I don't even bother displaying the non-important work mail since the volume is too great to mix it in with my inboxes, but if I could have a non-intrusive view of it taking just a bit of space, that'd be nice. This, of course, results in an interleaved view; what I want is a non-interleaved view of multiple message lists, each sorted separately. Oh, and another feature suggestion, as if I wasn't already asking too much: A From/To column. Or, just the ability in the "From" column to have it display like "To: " if it's a sent message (or however else this can be matched if possible.) I like to display my sent mail with my inboxes as well, which I also color code. But it'd be nice to be able to see the recipient of sent mail in the same "From" column, rather than just see that it's from me. I could accomplish this through a couple of different hacks, such as having a script on my IMAP server copy sent mail into an archival mailbox for the original, then rewriting the From to "To: xxx" in the main sent mailbox. Or perhaps creating a Smart Mailbox and using an Applescript to do the same. But it'd be nice to just have a simple way to do it. (Version 0.24b4)

PSYCHOS If this was April 1, it might be mildly amusing. But it's not, so I feel like I just lost a couple minutes of my life looking at the horrid screenshot and writing this review. Would the developer please return them? Thank you. (Version 1.1.5b)

PSYCHOS Letterbox allows sending anonymous data, which is okay with me. However, in the list of data to send, it shows a UUID. So my question is whether this UUID is always the same for a given installation, or if it's uniquely generated for each anonymous data send. (I'm not okay with sending data if the UUID stays the same, because it's really not anonymous anymore at that point.) (Version 0.24b4)

PSYCHOS While I have enjoyed Saft in the past, I must agree with those who are not willing to pay for an upgrade to support Snow Leopard. Consider that Apple is only charging $29 for Leopard users to upgrade to Snow Leopard; this is because Apple is smart enough to know that people won't pay much more since most of the features are under the hood. Similarly, upgrading Saft appears to provide NO new functionality, past being compatible with Snow Leopard (and in 32-bit mode, which is much smaller of an update than the upgrade to support Safari 4.0.) If there were more major changes to Saft, possibly even just 64-bit support, I would consider paying to upgrade. If there was a new major version of Safari that Saft had to be overhauled to support, I would consider paying to upgrade. The developer has been very good in the past about quickly updating Saft to work with Safari updates. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case, since there's no timeline provided for 64-bit Safari support. I have to echo those who note that, while the updates are quick, the licensing/download system is sometimes confounding. If the developer wishes to provide a fairly priced upgrade, say $3 - $5 ($3 being the price difference between Saft for Leopard and Saft for Snow Leopard), along with 64-bit support, I will be happy to upgrade. Until then, it seems that Glims has been adding more and more features since I last compared it to Saft, thus with them promising 64-bit support soon, I will switch if that materializes. Pod to Mac | Jul 12 2009 |
PSYCHOS There is something you are missing. Please post this as something like "Pod to Mac 3.0." Not "Pod to Mac The New 3.0." People know that it's a new version when it shows up. It's kinda like if Apple released "Mac OS X Leopard The New 10.6." Or if Microsoft released "Windows Vista The New 2009." It's just not a version numbering scheme people use, and it's confusing to many people. "Pod to Mac 3.0" would be perfectly fine, and not annoy anyone as has apparently happened. PSYCHOS There are a few other pretty good free addons of this type (e.g., Glims), but none of them seem to do quite what Saft does as well as it does, and $12 is quite reasonable for how much time it's saved me with shortcut searches, ad/popup blocking, and some tab stuff. The developer is extremely responsive, which is always important for any sort of paid software; the new version to fix compatibility with the final version of Safari 4.0 came out within a couple hours of the Safari update. My one wishlist item would be the ability to remap menu items (e.g., I personally remap keys by editing the MainMenu.nib: Quit to Opt-Cmd-Q, Print to Opt-Cmd-P so I don't accidentally trigger one of those, and left/right tab to Cmd-[ and Cmd-]. Every few updates of Safari, the MainMenu.nib gets replaced and I have to remap these again.) (Version 11.0b (5530.17))

PSYCHOS Safari 4 Beta 5528.17 that came out alongside 10.5.7 doesn't seem to work with the latest Saft. I have a feeling that the developer will quite likely fix this in the next few hours as usual (kudos to him for being so quick with updates!), but if anyone knows how to force it to load (if it will) that'd be useful. (Can't find the Safari version string in the Saft files, etc.) (Version 11.0)

Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware | Feb 20 2008 |
PSYCHOS I only rarely had this problem before on my MacBook Pro, but I installed the update. Now, in about 12 hours of usage, I've had a key get stuck repeating for 2 - 3 seconds. The keyboard and trackpad became unusable while the key was stuck repeating, and for about 2 seconds afterwards. This is quite aggravating. This is a much more annoying problem than the previous issue. Anyone else experiencing this? (Version 1.0)

Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro Keyboard Firmware | Feb 21 2008 |
JOHN SAWYER CJS Sounds like Apple may have messed with the settings for how long to wait before the keyboard responds to a keypress, and how long to wait before judging whether that key is being held down longer than a single keystroke, and thus to repeat. And if it got stuck repeating, that's another thing. (Version 1.0)

SSHKeychain | Jan 18 2008 |
PSYCHOS Turns out I posted rather hastily. Checked my ~/src directory, and indeed I had modified the source for 0.8.1, to force it to set LSUIElement to 1 no matter what. Will do the same to 0.8.2. (Version 0.8.2)

SSHKeychain | Jan 18 2008 |
PSYCHOS I'd like SSHKeychain to not display itself at all in the dock or menu bar. This worked fine in 0.8.1 by setting it to Dock-only and setting LSUIElement to 1 in the Info.plist. However, in 0.8.2, LSUIElement reverts to 0 and the dock icon shows up anyways. Locking the Info.plist causes the app to quit after a few seconds. Does anyone know how I might fully hide SSHKeychain without mucking with the source? (I have to add, this is one of the most useful pieces of MacOS freeware out there!) (Version 0.8.2)

Tunnelblick | Nov 12 2007 |
PSYCHOS Tunnelblick unexpectedly quits for me sometimes. This seems to happen when changing network connections, but not always. (I'm semi-frequently switching between my Airport and an EV-DO card.) When it happens, it leaves behind a stray openvpn process that I have to manually kill before I can establish another VPN connection. Tunnelblick will actually establish a new connection successfully, but it will be unusable unless I've killed the old openvpn process first. I'm running 10.5 on a MBP, clean install. Worked fine under 10.4. Anyone else experiencing this under 10.5? (Version 3.0b6)

Apple MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Updater | Sep 28 2007 |
PSYCHOS Applied the update. After my system had been up for about half an hour, all sound output stopped working. Any application that tried to output sound would freeze and require a manual kill. Couldn't even get to the Sound prefpane. I tried restarting coreaudiod, no effect. I slept and unslept the machine, no effect. I eventually rebooted, and the problem resolved. I have never seen this happen before this update, so I suspect it may be linked since it happened right after I updated. Has anyone else had odd audio freezes like this? I did zap my PRAM after the firmware update. (Version 1.4)

PSYCHOS This is great. I can easily store things like bank account and credit card information without worrying about data theft if my laptop disappears. PSYCHOS Upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.2.1. All of a sudden, I couldn't connect to my wireless network. Checked config, did a hardware reset, no go. I get that "Try Again" message from my MBP. I normally use 5GHz N-only mode. However, 2.4GHz mixed mode and 5GHz A/N mixed mode work fine! I tried turning off authentication, with no help. I even reverted back to 7.1.1, and the same problems continued. Right now I'm running with A+N support to get the damned thing working at all. (Version 7.2.1)

Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler | Jan 31 2007 |
PSYCHOS SOX compliance does not require this to be sold rather than given away for free. It would simply cost Apple more to take care of the accounting. I told myself that I would refuse to pay for this update or buy an Airport Extreme. Then I read the reviews of other pre-N routers and realized that for anything near the best performance, I'd have to get the Airport Extreme. So I admitted defeat and pre-ordered one. ...but the part that makes me REALLY angry: despite the fact that I have ordered the Airport Extreme, which includes this update for free, I cannot download it before the Airport Extreme ships. (I'd be fine with them charging the full amount on my credit card for the hardware to get around the obvious "we haven't billed you yet" argument, since it's close to shipping.) (Version 1.0)

PSYCHOS I love CTVD; it's the best workspace manager I've used under any OS. Unfortunately, it does not run on my MacBook Pro. The web page still says a fix is coming soon. Emails a couple months ago and a few days ago have gone unanswered. Does this company still exist? Is CTVD ever going to be updated? I'd sure like to use this product that I paid for until Leopard is out with Spaces. (Version 3.2)
