Safari AdBlock
Oct 22 2009

PROFINITE  On a G5 Tower running OS 10.5.8 and a Mac Pro running OS 10.6.1, CNN video and ACCU Weather video would not play if Safari AdBlock is on. The moment I disable Safari AdBlock and reload a page, videos at these sites play.

Has anyone encountered this phenomenon?

PROFINITE  I was looking forward to the official 1.0 release.

So, I downloaded the PPC version onto my G5 Tower. Upon launch, it gives an error message that invites me to tell the tech support what I was doing before the launch.

I am very disappointed to see a release that cannot possibly called an official 1.0 release. At best, this is still an alpha.

INFINITY DATA SYSTEMS  It sounds like you may have ran 1.0 over a very, very old beta. If so, there were a number of significant changes made in the later betas that could account for the error you received.

Please contact us at dev@infinitydatasystems.com and we'll get it fixed for you.

PROFINITE  Since v1, I have owned and used this utility and have been extremely satisfied with the features it offers.

Application Enhancer
Aug 7 2008

PROFINITE  I have owned and used FontCard, FruitMenu, Menu Master, and WindowShade. The only time the APE was an issue was when I upgraded to Leopard. Of course, this issue was widely reported. So, it was easy to get back on track.

All four products I listed above are still betas for Leopard. But, I have not experienced any instability issues with installations of Leopard on my Mac's (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, and G5 Tower) that I could trace to the APE.

PROFINITE  I downloaded a 30-day trial and tried to use it.

But, all but two areas in the preferences are ready and others are labeled "Under Development." This means that virtually none of the preferences that currently exist in Eudora is ready in the software.

Next, I tried to import Eudora mail, but was surprised to find that only InBox, OutBox, and a couple more mailboxes got imported.

All good intentions are there, and I want to applaud their effort to build an email client that is as close as and better than Eudora.

But, this beta is really still an alpha at best.

PROFINITE  My apologies. v1.5 does work with Safari 3.1. I was so used to a quick interaction between Baywatch and Safari on Tiger that I thought v1.5 was hanging every time I tried to add an auction. So, I kept force-quitting v1.5. Then, today I noticed in my iCal some eBay entries. So, I realized that v1.5 had actually worked. This evening, I let v1.5 as long as it wants to run when I add an auction. Sure enough, it does add the auction in iCal.

Safari AdBlock
Nov 24 2007
*****

PROFINITE  When Pithhelmet became incompatible with Leopard when the new OS was released, out of desperation, I found Safari AdBlock.

I must say that Safari AdBlock has worked to my satisfaction.

Certainly, Pithhelmet has more parameters that you can adjust. But, the simplicity and effectiveness of Safari AdBlock is impressive. Plus, it is FREE.

Now that Pithhelmet 2.8 has been released for Leopard, I disabled Safari AdBlock and tried Pithhelmet for a few minutes. Then, I immediately went back to Safari AdBlock.

PROFINITE  I have been a registered user from January 2003. One of the things that has always stood out with the company is their superb customer support before, during, and after a purchase or an upgrade.

I use Page Sender in my distance education courses in order to receive proctored exams back for grading. The software has been an indispensable tool in this respect.

Just a few minutes ago, I upgraded to v4.x. And, once again the customer support has been second to none.

When you must use fax software for work and truly appreciate timely response for help requests from the developer, I wholeheartedly recommend Page Sender.

With Safari 2.0.4 (419.3), I run the following:

- Saft 8.3.12

- PithHelmet 2.6.7

- 1Passwd 2.3.11

The moment I installed SafariPlus 1.5.1, Safari began crashing after every launch. For the life of me, I could not figure out why.

I finally 'cured' this issue by moving the SafariPlus folder to /Library/InputManagers. I still do not know what different it makes, however.

PhoneAgent

*****

PROFINITE  I have been using PhoneAgent for a few years. Support from the author, Peter, has been absolutely phenominal.

I teach at a university, and sometimes I want to mass-SMS to my students. I have their cell #'s in Excel which is exported to a tab-delimited text file. PhoneAgent easily imports the text file with cell #'s, which enables me to send the same messages to multiple receipients.

Furthermore, you can now send different messages to different #'s as well. I use this new feature to SMS my students' exam scores. They love the quick feedback better than email.

For anyone looking for a cell phone program, I wholeheartedly recommend PhoneAgent.

I need to send the same SMS to a group of about 100 students. I am not going to create 100 entries into the phone book, only to delete them at the end of the semester.

I emailed the author how to do this, and he has promptly and kindly guided me through an easy step to import a text file of numbers into a group in MegaCellX and to send the same SMS to the group.
