PISSNAROUND   I think I know what happened. First, I had to erase the previous versions cache and prefs before I could even get WJ to run. Then, once it was running I couldn't just type into your prefs dialog. I had to hold the up and down arrows in order to change how many pics I could view. I also had to quit and relaunch every time I changed a setting in order to see the effect.

I run Isolator and it seems there was some conflict. Even after I uninstalled WJ Isolator would no longer run until I reinstalled it.

PISSNAROUND  I'm amazed that users have any problems with Firefox at all. It's my browser of choice and the only time I use anything else: Flock, Safari, Camino etc. is out of boredom. I suspect most problems people who do have some problem is due to add-ons that haven't been updated for the current version of FF or some other corrupted file. For me anyway, displays pages correctly, doesn't crash, is fast and I would be very unhappy without it.

I have on rare occasions found a glitch with some obscure program or other but 90% of the time that I read people saying they have problems with this or that program, I can never find them.

As far as beta versions of anything, they are not finished programs and seems silly for people to expect them to function like they are finished or stable.

Oct 1 2008

GORDON BELL  Hi again,

So I've been looking into your question and got this from our engineering group:

Threshold basically controls how much to amplify the signal, only it is

measured in the opposite direction. It is a kind of like a pair of scissors, which will

bring all the signal that exceeds the threshold down to the threshold

level, and then amplifies the signal so that the threshold is brought up

to whatever ceiling value is showing.

As an example: If Ceiling=0dB, that means to bring it to the maximum.

When Ceiling == Threshold, the signal is just cut (limited) at the

threshold level and no amplification is performed.

Of course, Limiter within Hear is a dynamics processor, which does not just clip the

signal, but rather, ensures that no audible clipping is made while the

signal stays within the given range.

One can think of a limiter as a volume control basically, which

carefully limits all the output that goes beyond what hardware can output.

Hope that helps --

Can't believe how large a canvas can be, and NO pixelating, unless extremely enlarged. When I don't want to drag out Painter X, this application hits the spot for spontaneity.

PISSNAROUND  I suppose I should review this now. Obviously it is the best sound enhancement available for Macs available. It will dramatically improve one's sound overall.

One note of caution or really more a hint. Because audio sources vary in quality dramatically. One can end up trying to endless adjust things almost on a file by file basis. Try and find one or two that work and leave it be.

PISSNAROUND  As far as the hung processes. It seems to be a quirk of Activity Monitor. If checked with something like Peek-A-Boo, they don't show as hung. And being nothing is affected,i.e., everything runs, and Hear isn't the only program where those processes show as hung. Are plenty of reports of coreaudiod showing as hung since at least Tiger for example.

PISSNAROUND  thanks. I actually called Apple and they told me the same thing. You can drag a plugin or whatever to the trash but if you drag it to the deskop or somewhere else it will just make a copy. After reading the forums about the useragent problem I'm not sure what to think. Mine does turn red after installing Hear but it doesn't seem to be affecting anything. Hear seems to run fine as does my system. I do think $50 is a tad steep to make the sound "different" as opposed to better. Guess it's all relative.

APPLE_JULIEN  "I was just dbl clicking on the preset stations which actually would make then start playing."

Wow ! Yes, this feature (the double-click) is juste to "preview" the preset or the iTunes importation.

But if you wan't to really use FStream, you should add the webradio in your "playlist" (the "Radio" tab).

Once this done, you can "really" use FStream ! (that is to say, recording, equalizer, volume, etc. via the tom -demi-circle on the right and via the status menu)

"ok I'm embarassed"

No ! Human are not perfect, and perhaps the help is not very good...

I don't know what mechanism is used to interceot the stream by the volume, eq, record etc. but if I could find out I may be able to replace whatever isnt working on my machine. apparently its neither an iTunes 7.6 nor a quicktime 7.4 issue seeing a couple others here say it works with those installed. is one person who apparently also has a status that never changes in the recent comments. thanks
