GyazMail
Mar 8 2007

PHILCOZZ  I used to use GyazMail exclusively a couple of years ago, when it was in its 0.9.X.X phase. There have been nice developments with it over the years, but it seems odd to me that smart folders have not become a standard feature in the program yet. Apple Mail is quite flaky for me, so I use Entourage instead these days (which has "smart folders" in its "Mail Views" function), but I would likely switch to GyazMail if that sort of functionality was implemented.

PHILCOZZ  It may not be very expensive, but I have to pay before I even get to see the app in action? No, seriously...

PHILCOZZ  Installer hung for me, too. After a while I quit the installer and 1.2.2 seems to have installed during the hang, but I'm leery.

SMORR  Some people have experienced the installer hanging during some clean up procedures --- MailTag does install properly can can be used. We are looking into why this is happening for some but not others.

PHILCOZZ  Simply doesn't work for me. It's enabled, but I get no signs of Google results as depicted in screenshots (e.g., the Yosemite example). Oh well.

PHILCOZZ  Very fast, great features... Add a "find-as-you-type" feature (ala Camino) and it's my default.

Well done.

PHILCOZZ  This has great potential... Much faster on my Powerbook than Aperture. GUI doesn't matter as much to me as performance, and this one is on pace to be better, IMO.

ANONYMOUS  Agree with other person... Lame to give an app 1 star when you haven't even tried it.

OmniWeb

ANONYMOUS  Actually, the OmniGroup release notes say about the latest beta:

-----

"OmniWeb now runs in Unlicensed/Demo mode

* When unlicensed OmniWeb runs in Demo mode which means

-You can launch OmniWeb on 30 different days before the demo expires. Days on which you do not launch OmniWeb are not counted.

-If you launch OmniWeb on Monday, and then not again until Wednesday, that counts as only 2 days. A day is counted only the first time you launch OmniWeb on a given day.

-Once the demo expires, you are limited to pages at omnigroup.com. Other domains will not load.

-----

That is not the same thing as previous OW versions so when you say "...the way OW runs, you really don't have to pay for it. They constantly keep the app in demo mode. So, people who can't afford or don't want to pay for the software should stop complaining now" you may not be correct.

There are a number of nice free browsers out there right now (Camino, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, etc.)... Omni may do flowcharts (Graffle) and outlines (outliner) better than most, but the browser market is crowded with alternatives.

DARREL E. KNUTSON  There is no problem with OmniWeb 5.0 beta 6 for new users or for users that can put up with nags to buy the software. The problem is for *registered* users that may have already paid for the software and yet still get nagged to buy it (currently you can only buy a license for 4.5).

Sure, there are other fine browsers out there (I've been maintaining "the best" listing of Macintosh Web browsers for years), but OmniWeb is my main browser, and I want to pay for it and use it without being bothered.

With beta 6 this is simply not possible.

You can use 5.0b6 for free and it will run in demo mode only. You can buy a license for 4.5 that will automatically be upgraded to the final version of 5.0, but NO you can't register the software yet - my criteria for using the software on a daily basis!
