You're entitled to your opinion, but to me the logic that software that works with other software should cost less than the companion software is folly. The audience for HoudahGeo is much narrower than Google Earth as it provides a specific function. Therefore, the number of people that will use it (with or without licensing fees) is monumentally smaller. Therefore, in order to recover the cost of developing the software and enhancing it, it generally requires a bit higher cost per unit. While in a perfect world, we'd all love everything to be free. I for one, am happy to throw a few bones Houdah Software's way for what I've seen. I want Pierre to be motivated to continue development and to be able to eat. I wanted something specific and Pierre was kind enough to make the changes quickly. It's going to benefit me and I'm grateful for that. If you can find free way to easily accomplish what HoudahGeo does, more power to you. Personally, I'm pleased with my license and the service I've received. |
