PEANUT BUTTER An additional comment about the S530 and LCC software.... The keyboard started producing odd characters and wonky feedback. Battery already dead? So I put in on the ground and started using a diff keyboard. The LCC software no longer recognizes the mouse without the keyboard - lame. When LCC is working, the mouse keys choices don't let me use the buttons for any expose features. I had set the back/forward buttons = to F9 and F10. That was pretty sad also for a "control center". (I do like the mouse without the keyboard.) (Version 2.2.2)

PEANUT BUTTER Installed LCC v2.1.4 that I downloaded from Logitech. (BTW, I had both key/mouse on and the USB receiver plugged in when I installed the drivers) Rebooted, and the control panel recognized the S530 keyboard, and sees the mouse as a S600. Both pref panes work correctly... nice to have such control over the keys and what they do, launch, etc. -->I am not happy with the S530 keyboard at all. It's loud, feels very cheap, looks like cheap plastic, and takes a lot of action/force to actuate the keys. Finally the caps lock has no indicator. --> I do like the mouse. Love the extra buttons, I don't like the amount noise and feedback of the scroll wheel. (Version 2.2.2)

PEANUT BUTTER Looks like KisMac is temporarily down, but not out. From their website...... With the introduction of §202c German politicians proved their complete incompetence. Law in Germany: possession of child pornography - two years imprisonment. Distribution of security software is half as bad. Even worse politicians still believe in the successful ban of digital information, obviously not reckoning globalization. We are heading straight to a country I do not want to be living in. KisMAC will live on. Different people. Different country. Same "threat" to national security. (Version 0.21a)

PEANUT BUTTER I got this app with the MU Promo bundle. I had never heard of it. 2 minutes after launching it, I realized that I picked up an amazing piece of software. I would be dazzled for a few minutes with the various slideshows styles, if that was all it did. The fact that there are numerous ways to export the slideshows makes this app amazing and useful in so many ways. The screen saver export was great to see, can't wait to play around with it. The animated slideshow options are very cool and very slick. I can already see myself creating short little slideshows to export and add into other movies. Much, much easier to create a photo DVD than iMovie/iDVD. The fact that I got this unexpected as part of the MU Promo makes it an amazing value. (Version 2.9.2)

PEANUT BUTTER I was able to get the CanoScan N1240U to work with a MacBook Pro (early 2007, not the santa rosa mobo). Using with CanoScan Toolbox X. Photoshop CS import works also. Still crummy software overall that sucks 100% of a processor when from the time it's launched to the time it's quit, but it actually does work and I can scan. I just ran the CanoScan_N1240U_v7010X installer - no reboot, works. Not sure if it will be working after reboot ;-0 (buttons don't work on the front - oh well) (Version 4.1.3.0X)

PEANUT BUTTER Using it on a MacBook Pro (Core2Duo) and it works great. It's a bit quirky to figure out the settings at first, but once you get it, there is an ah-ha moment and you really get it. Great "fine" control over the fan speed. I tried all of the other fan apps for the intel macs and this is the best. Cyclone offers temp in the menubar, and that's it's only advantage...if that is what you really want. Otherwise the cyclone interface is worse than fan control. It would be nice if this were a separate application, so that I could monitor like Activity Monitor rather than opening and taking over the sys prefs.

EVVN Since I installed this program, my fans have been running loudly even at low speeds on my new white Macbook. After completely uninstalling it, 1800 rpm (and even 1500 rpm) are very noticeably loud, where previously at those speeds they were pretty much completely silent. I was wondering if there is some way that I can restore my Macbook to the way it was before, since uninstalling it and then installing smcFanControl to restore apple's defaults didn't seem to take the problem away. It still runs cool, so the fans must obviously be working, I just don't understand why they're so much louder now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! (Version 1.1)

PEANUT BUTTER huge requirements.. or is it that they decided against UB (aka PPC and intel code), and opted for intel code only to simply their programming? I am on a 1.67Ghz G4 DP with Radeon 9800 - pretty decent power, nothing to brag about, but I can get decent frame rates on most games. So the fact that I can't even run this tells me that..... 1. the developer is lame and needs to support G3/G4/G5/intel and all Nvidia and ATI cards ever made 2. I need to et out of the jurrasic and get myself an intel-based mac before I die of old age. 3. join the monastery (Version 1.0)

D9 Yes, I think we're just getting to that part of the road where Intel-only software is going to become prevalent. It's similar to the move to PowerPC and OS X, in that at some point, development became singular in design. That moment is starting to arrive for Intel Macs. (Version 1.0)

Star Wars: Empire at War | May 24 2007 |
ORION MK. V Time to upgrade. It's like the old 68k move to PowerPC. That said, it's always worth keeping your older system around for legacy software that may never run on the newer tech. I'm running on a 24" iMac, but keep the old Powerbook G4 for portability and PPC-only apps. (Version 1.05 rev A)

iDefrag | Mar 21 2007 |
PEANUT BUTTER Additionally, OS X does NOT optimize. That is, it OS X will not reorganize the location of the files on your hard drive. This may not seem like a big deal, but if all of your library and system files are scattered across the drive, that adds to the amount of work the spindle must do moving back and forth across the entire platter over and over again. It would be worse if those same files were also fragmented and the fragments were scattered across the drive. With the size of hard drives outpacing speed (throughput and seek times), I am starting lean back toward defrag and optimization as ways to help the drives keep up with today's fast computers. PEANUT BUTTER I like the concept and possibility.. Unfortunatly editing a "dockyard" is non-sense. The remove menu item doesn't do anything. Dragging items to the side (like dock or finder windows does not remove an item. The delete key is useless and cmd+delete brings up the switcher. It sure is easy to create a bunch of duplicates of the same dock, which then serve no purpose. In the dockyard multiple apps and folders show up as question marks... why? they are are and have been there. This app needs to bug tested and the editing feature overhauled. I wish I could use this so I could try it out. It seems like a good way to unclutter the dock for specific tasks. (Virtual Docks, ala virtual desktops). Retrospect | Jul 19 2006 |
PEANUT BUTTER did you set it up correctly? When done correctly, incremental backup will only add new data. I have set this up hundreds of times for thousands of mac/pcs in workgroups or for individuals. (there are many issues with retrospect, but it DOES do incremental backup) As for the speed, going from your local drive to another HD, you should see anywhere from 100-400MB/min (lots of factors, speed of drives, host and client computers, network, compression.) This is really slow compared to 30-60MB/sec speeds of the HD. Yet, even at 100MB/min, that's 6GB/hr and should only take 3hrs for 18GB, not all night. (Version 6.1.6.100)
