AETNARIA  The crashing might be due to a corrupted preference file, in which case the app itself would run just fine on everyone else's systems - making it very hard to locate and fix your problem.

Have you tried removing all old Adium items and reinstalling the latest version?

Things to remove may include:

~/Library/Application Support/Adium

~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0

~/Library/Preferences/com.adiumX.adiumX.plist

where ~ is your Home directory.

This app has NEVER EVER Crashed on me on ANY Mac operating system. Tiger & Leopard. Ran 100% Fine. No Memory Leaks, no nothing.

SAGGIS  hahah dude seriously I don't think you can get more OSX than Adium without being Apple themselves. It's brilliant, I've never had it crash since I took the Classic to 10 leap in December 2004. My constant friend, whom I wouldn't survive without!

MUDFLAPPER  Yeah, it's funny, Adium is the one app that has NEVER crashed on me. Not even all the beta versions.

Maybe we can help you out figure out what's causing the crashing? I'm wondering if Adium is trying to access a font that has been corrupted somehow. I'm a graphic designer and I've learned over the years that, at least with my system, most mysterious crashes are caused by bad fonts.

Let us know if we can help. In the meantime, boot from your Leopard disc, repair your startup drive, repair permissions, restart, reinstall Adium and let us know how it goes.

ARTROOM  You're not the only one with serious crashing issues.

I have been using Adium for years without any real problem, up to and including version 1.1.4

Any attempt to use a version newer than that causes an almost instant crash on startup. I have tried most versions of 1.2.x all with the same results. Simply going back and replacing with 1.1.4 gets me up and running again perfectly.

I have tried trashing prefs but with no luck. And if it is a corrupt preference as everyone says, i'm unsure as to why the corruption affects version 1.2.x but 1.1.4 is immune to the corruption.

My advice to anyone experiencing the same problem, try going back to an older version like i did.
