PLISTOFF  I will amend my previous statement… the Bug is Apple's not Skim's but I understand there are things that could be done to workaround the bug (and things that need to be done by the Skim team).

The bug has nothing to do with an application not supporting Skim specific features - it has to do with a bug introduced by Apple's programmers (confirmed as a bug by Apple "DTS" from what I've read). If this bug is not fixed (and it sounds like it will not be any time soon) then Skim data could easily be destroyed by this bug.

I can't believe you would take such a cavalier attitude concerning people's data. "Lost all your highlighting and annotations? Meh." For shame.

PLISTOFF  This may seem like a good app but it has a MAJOR BUG in Snow Leopard where your annotations, etc. could be lost. In addition, a Bug report has been filed on it and the developer says it's normal to expect data loss!?! (and I quote, "That's the way it is, it's not a bug.")

HOFMAN  My guess is that you're talking about saving a PDF with Skim notes with other applications that do not know about those notes, such as Preview or Acrobat. This is indeed not a bug but expected behavior. When you edit and save data with a particular application, than you will save only the data that application knows about, and you should expect to lose any data that application does not recognize. This is true for any type of data and any kind of application.

HOFMAN  There's nothing Skim can do about this, because you lose the notes when you save from another program. Skim has no way to change the way Preview or Acrobat saves data, that should be obvious. Remember, you also /see/ a PDF without (Skim) notes in Preview, so you should also expect to save it without notes when you do a save from Preview. That's /your/ fault, not Skim's. It's simple: save Skim data with Skim, and save Preview data with Preview. If you mix that up, you may expect problems.

PLISTOFF  "Recently I purchased an application and within a couple of days the company offered the same product for a much lower price. Fortunately the company was very, very, honorable and refunded the difference, but I've been stuck before by companies who didn't fully consider the ramifications of upgrade pricing. "

What ramifications? A company is not under any compulsion to offer you a discount of ANY kind let alone one ex post facto. So you bought at a higher price and the price was lowered a couple of days later. So what? You just had bad timing. They OWE you NOTHING. (Whether they chose to give you something is an individual choice, not a requirement. It's a GIFT!)

I don't know why people can't understand this.

PLISTOFF  I wish MacUpdate would moderate these posts. These are not reviews of a piece of software.

C'mon, MU - watch what gets posted here!

PLISTOFF  @ONEBLESSEDGUY:

I'm not sure about where to complain to at Amazon.

@Et al:

Here's a link or three…

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/07/07/delicious-library-for-iphone-runs-afoul-of-amazons-api-terms-p/

http://www.macworld.com/article/142162/2009/08/deliciouslibrary.html

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=amazon+"delicious+library"

This is definitely bad behavior on the part of Bezos and Co.

PLISTOFF  It is a well publicized situation that Amazon decided to "pull the plug" on Delicious Library for the iPhone (and services for other mobile devices). This is not Delicious Monster's fault - it is Amazon's. Maybe you should stay abreast of the issues before making comments.

This is a great piece of software (and a seminal app that formed much of the design ethos that pervades Mac culture today.) Great work, Wil and Co. 8^)

PLISTOFF  Shock J:

I am actually reading very few "critical" fixes. If you read the version history you'll see "adding" and "improving" more than anything else. That's not a critical fix like "Fixed Conjure setting computer on fire" would be. XD

I appreciate Chilton's responsiveness and willingness to listen to Users' ideas (though that doesn't mean he should just do whatever anyone wants. And, yes, I am in the software biz as well.) It's one thing to write an app that you use and find helpful but once it's out in the wild you realize how differently other people use (or want to use) it. Bravo, Chilton! 8^)

PLISTOFF  You're using the same mechanism as Ironic Software and Gravity Applications. Why not conform to OpenMeta specifications instead of introducing non-standard attributes (tagoman_tags) and unnecessary prefixes (T4G) to the values?

This is exactly why the OpenMeta project got started, so people don't have to (and hopefully wouldn't) try and roll their own attribs and values. 8^(
