OPETER  Hello MTESCAPE,

I did not see your response, sorry if I am late with my response ... anyway, I have good news.

So, here I am, with version 2.40. And for my surprise, I have to say, that I don't know, what did (you) the developers do to this one, but it runs flawlessly on my Mac mini. The machine is the same (as I wrote in my review - look above), the OS is the same, I did only replace my old version of Flux with 2.4.

I would like to thank the developers, since the UI is now really responsive and I used it already more than 2 hours. Not a single spinning beach-ball as for now.

Nice beginning of november :)

**...

OPETER  Sadly, I did buy the this application from mupromo.com and it is simply unusable. I tought, that my Mac (Mac mini early 2009, 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 250 GB HDD) in powerfull enough to use it. But sadly, that is not the case.

I get beachballing every time in the file browser even when I just click/select only one file. The beachball storys goes forth with the file savings too.

The same goes for copy/duplicate of files in file browser etc. everything is very slow., very slow. The same goes for some buttons... if I click tha Media button (in the main windows), to show up the options it simply stops: only Force Quit helps.

In half code/half preview view, there is no chance, to show the line numbers in code view, so if you try to validate, there is almost zero chance to find the line fast , where the error, mistake is. Also, there is no automatic help, like tags closing, etc.

I would really like to use this application, since I like it's interface. But because of slow, unressponsive working, I cannot recommend it. Also, many functions I would like (tags closing) aren't there. My 59 $ was not wise spended, sadly.

I really hope, the developer(s) will work on this application, especially on the speed of it.

However, one thing I must mention: it is very stable, never ever crashed - it was just in the state of "Not responding".

OPETER  Yes it is.

With my 2 GHz Mac mini (2009), Geforce 9400, and 4 GB RAM, I have sometime stops and I had to change it to 800x600 resolution to be somehow playable, everyhting set to low (you have 3 options - low, medium and high settings), high quaility textures turned off and also no anti-aliasing.

You can press the Command+Enter to play in window (thats what I always do, since, the resolution is not that much).

For this cider port I recommend you, that you have a Geforce 8800 or better, to play it at decent framerates and at bigger resolutions. Also, the CPU is better, if it is more than 2 GHz.

Especially with the multilanguage support, that it got already.

OPETER  Really nice application, using it since two years. I got it with the MacUpdate bundle in 2007, yesterday I buyed the 5.5 upgrade for 10 $.

I DO HAVE A QUESTION:

How can I CHMOD a whole folder, I mean, the files inside a folder? I know, I can choose a folder, press the "Get Info" and change the permissions in that window.

But what, if I have a a folder, with many subfolder and many files inside? Is the only option to CHMOD all these, to open every folder manually and use the get info?

This is very time consuming to make this will all subfolders and files.

Is there any option, to make this somehow faster?

JIM MATTHEWS  Yes, there is an easier way. You can download the Fetch Example Scripts from http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download . One of the scripts is called "Recursive Fetch Permissions" -- it will do exactly what you want.

Please contact Fetch support if you run into any problems.

Thanks,

Jim Matthews

Font Renamer
Aug 12 2009
*****

OPETER  What a great little application! I does only one thing and this one very simple and fast: renaming fonts (as the name says).

The steps to preform a renaming are very simple:

1.) You open the app, a little window shows up

2.) you drag the folder (that has the fonts inside, that you want to be renamed) inside this window

3.) the app will rename it automatically

It is very fast and very simple to use!

Ah, and I did almost forget to mention: it is Universal Binary.

A big thank to the developer.

Default Folder X
Aug 7 2009

OPETER  How can you compare Default Folder with PathFinder?

These are two totally different apps.

You know, why I do like to use Default Folder X? Because with the help of this little gem I get all the option the so hated Windows OS has since version 95 OSR2.5 with installed Internet Explorer. And what is the main function?

You can with the help of DFX rename/delete/copy/move files directly without closing the Open/Save file dialog. Now compare DFX functions with the classic Finder Open/Save file dialog... what does Finders dialogs have? Nothing. Absolutly nothing of functions, only Open/Save file and Create New Folder. As if we would be in the early 90s and not in 2009.

Using MacOS X 10.5.8.

NeoOffice
Aug 7 2009

OPETER  Thats good about NeoOffice, that it is constantly updated. With closed-source software you newer know, how long you will get updates and also when will the developer drop the support (look at Apple's Shake). And what will you do then?

I'm happy, that they are constanly updating it. That's the magic in the whole thing.

OPETER  On their site/ in their store (http://www.nisus.com/store/) the price is $ 79,00 for the full download version, the CD version costs $ 89,00.

Also there you will see the price for upgrade, a family license pack and the prices for other products, like Nisus Writer Express etc.

OPETER  Works great! Just installed the CrossOver Games Mac Pro edition, that you can download today for free from their website.

I tryed installing Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen II game and WOW! It works great. 1600x1200, 32-bit, anistropic config on works flawlessly on my Mac mini 1,83 GHz on GMA 950! :)

Thank you CodeWeavers for this nice product!

OpenOffice.org
Oct 23 2008

OPETER  Well, the sadly thing is, that it is true. I did have a PowerMacg G4 Digital Audio with 466 MHz G4 CPU and that was a great machine at that time.

I did also testing a Pentium III 1000 MHz PC (for InDesign 2.0 and Photoshop), that had also 1,5 GB PC133 RAM and compared to that, the G4 was somehow the same speed as this Pentium III.

But in 2005 i buyed a PowerMac G5 Dual 1,8 GHz with maxed out 4 GB RAM PC3200 400 MHz and tested it side by side with my friends Pentium 4 HT 3400 MHz and the result was: the Pentium 4 blowned away my G5.

I simply couldn't believe it.

I had a Radeon 9800 Mac Edition so all eye-candys was GPU accelerated (Quartz Extreme support etc. that all was there), but the responsiveness of InDesign CS1 on my G5 and on my friends Pentium 4 HT was remarkably better on the PC.

Really, i'm not joking.

Also, try to look at Xbench benchmarks scores and you will see, that the PPCs simply don't have a chance against the Intel CPUs.

I am so happy with my C2D Mac mini. I hope they don't discontinue it, because i don't have the money for a Mac Pro if for some reason my Mac mini dies.

Back to the theme:

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Auqa is slow and i hope, that this will change in the future versions.

My Mac mini Core 2 Duo CPU blows away any PowerMac G5 Dual configurations in calculation (OK, the integrated GPU is week, but who cares?).

OPETER  Same problem here.

OO.org 3 Aqua is very slow, compared to NeoOffice.

I'm on na Intel Mac mini 1,83 GHz, 4 GB (2x2 GB, 3,25 GB usable) and a 7200 rpm HDD and it is simply unbelivable, how slow the scrolling of pages and the whole responsiveness of OO.org 3 is.

Oct 22 2008

OPETER  I did try the new OpenOffice 3.0 Auqa (the final version), but it is so slooow, compared to NeoOffice 2.2.5p2 on my Mac mini C2D 1,83 GHz with 4 GB RAM (!), that there is no chance, that i will switch from NeoOffice to OO.org 3.0.

I mean, the responsivenes of opening up a Word document (DOC), the scrolling of pages... OO.org Auqa is simply unbelivalbe slow.

Respect to developers, but I am staying with NeoOffice.

So for those who use iTunes 8, maybe that one will work?

OPETER  What a great game! Download and installed fine. It has something nostalgic in playing this: like Tyrian or R-Type...

The graphics are not ultra hyper 3D, but quite decent mix of 2D and some 3D models, i think it is great for a game like this. The sound-effect add some extras to the whole game.

What's the best about the whole thing is it's great gameplay!

CleanApp

OPETER  I also brought this little application and for me it works perfectly, without any glittches. Maybe this is because i have 4 GB of RAM, but the CleanApp Daemon doesnt do anything, that would slow down my computer.

It is a great application for uninstalling any other application, especially these, that doesnt have any uninstallers.

Also you can clean up in the UB apps the Intel or PPC code.

Suitcase Fusion 2
Jun 25 2007
*****

OPETER  I have just installed the new Suitcase Fusion Trial (the latest version: 12.1.3) and it works great!

I have some fonts that i for some unknown reasons cannot import into FontAgent Pro (3.3.2). These fonts are wonderfully imported into Suitcase. Also the activation leaves no problems. I also do like, that the fonts can stay in the original folder, so that you dont need to have to copys of it (like in FAP).

Suitcase 12.1.3 has some great new features, like grouping of sets (thanks to FontReserve).

I just wish it would stay minimized after login. I mean, it should not open after restart/login. FAP and FontExplorer X are more elegant in that.

Overall great product, i already brought a copy.

Disk Order
Sep 23 2006

OPETER  One of the greatest Norton Commander or in todays PC world standard Windows Commander clone for the Mac. The Application itself is fast, even on my G4 under MacOS X 10.4.7. It does support Unicode names (files and folders) without problems.

Using the two side panel, you can fast move, copy, edit, rename files, also there is a simple image viewer integrated, so that you can view your images, right inside Disk Order.

Much recommended for every Mac user!
