NOTKNOWN Beware of this app...... exhibits behaviour that borders on malware. OSX 10.4.10 on PBG4 (PPC). It asks me for my system password. THEN, little Snitch catches it trying to contact members.home.nl !!!!!!!! Denying the request via Little Snitch results in ping hanging around in the background and effectively crashing the app, which won't relaunch until said ping is force quit from Activity Monitor. Of COURSE there will be an "innocent" explanation like "oh it's just an update request" or "oh it's just....erm.....checking the local weather report" but in reality, this raises my suspicions - Why would a simple update request "hang" the program if it isn't allowed to complete if it were only an innnocent "version request"? HIGHLY suspicous imo as NO OTHER app that submits update requests does this or has ever done this! ....Furthermore, generally speaking, ANY app that tries to contact external sites behind the scenes and without informing me AFTER I have entered confidential information into my mac TENDS TO GET TRASHED IMMEDIATELY. ...I for one don't fancy the idea of anyone keeping a log of my IP, computer id name, computer password and program usage all in one..... and even if someone assures me to the contrary, I have no PROOF that this is not what's happening. Fix number 1: if it REALLY is a something simple like an update request, make it happen BEFORE the app asks for my confidential password to my system.....thank you! Fix number 2: use BlueHarvest instead....yes it costs, but you get the piece of mind knowing that it isn't doing anything "underhanded" with your personal/sensitive information..... (Version 1.9) |
