Apple Aperture | Jul 28 2008 |
NORAA Grr, Aperture MobileMe Web Galleries still not showing up in iWeb (MobileMe Web Galleries created in iPhoto showing up just fine). Already emailed Apple about this and told that it was currently unsupported, figured that they'd fix it eventually! Guess not *shakes head slowly* (Version 2.1.1)

NORAA Still doesn't fix the problem with MobileMe Galleries created in Aperture not showing up in iWeb (Galleries created in iPhoto show up just fine). This is getting exceedingly frustrating. Maybe an Aperture update is needed. (Version 2.0.4)

NORAA Cloud Data is essentially the data that is stored on external servers. For example: Google allows you to save documents on their servers as well as personal bookmarks. This data would be considered to be stored in the cloud - the cloud in this place being Google's servers. The Cloud is just a fancy name for information that is accessible from any computer with an internet connection. Hope that helps and makes sense! (Version 1.0.2)

NORAA This version doesn't seem to work with TechTool Protogo anymore. The last version I was using (1.5.8, hadn't upgraded in a little while) worked just fine when loaded onto a TechTool Protogo device. Now, with this new version, when I try to open it when booted up from a TechTool Protogo device, the whole system hangs. I just get that wonderful spinning beachball, and nothing. Anybody else have this problem (or even use TechTool Protogo for that matter)? (Version 1.6.6)

NORAA Very nice program. The UI is gorgeous and simple to use. There currently aren't too many features, but for basic account balancing and finance tracking it works wonderfully. I would like to see some more features in upcoming releases, such as the ability to put in recurring payments, more control over the graphs (colors, what gets graphed, etc.) Overall though, for a program that hasn't hit 1.0 yet it is remarkable stable and polished. NORAA I love this program, the only thing I wish it had is support for SOCKS 5 Proxy connection. I have COMCAST, and as I'm sure so many of you know, COMCAST has started to throttle back bittorrent downloads. Using socks 5 with azureus works really well, and brings my speeds back up - I just really hate azureus! (Version 1.06)

NORAA Hmm, this doesn't seem to be working. I quit Safari, I installed SIMBl first, then installed TabStop - then reopened Safari, opened a bunch of tabs, closed the window and nothing - quit safari, and nothing. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom | Feb 9 2007 |
NORAA I'm currently an Aperture user, and I really like it. I thougth I'd give Lightroom a try - just to see how it compares to Aperture. The "Library" module is severely lacking, not very intuitive, and in some ways counter-productive. The "Develop" module, however, is very impressive. The one thing I haven't figured out is how to use the HIstogram. I don't know if I'm missing something, or if it's just not there. In Photoshop and Aperture, I can use a Level adjust, to adjust the Levels in each color channel. I see that Lightroom has a histogram displayed, but how in the world do I adjust it? I think Lightroom has some potential, and perhaps will show some remarkable improvement in 1.0 Until the Library module is greatly revamped, and I can figure out how the Histogram works - I'll be sticking with Aperture. Apple iWeb | Feb 5 2007 |
NORAA I rarely rate software poorly - usually if it isn't good I just won't use it, and that's the end of it. But iWeb has pushed me to my limits. It has such great potential, and is a really great idea! I love being able to create a simple and good looking photo page. I find the blog feature allows for a lot more creativity and flexibility than a lot of the free blog sites out there (i.e. blogspot, livejournal...myspace just sucks). Alas, that damn this is buggy beyond use! I have no problems creating my sites at all, that part goes smoothly. It's trying to upload said sites that causes huge issues. First, why must every page of every site be created, even if no changes have been done to them? And what is up with uploading to .Mac? I either get an error that the .Mac servers are busy about half way through the upload, the upload stalls randomly and won't keep going, or something else prevents the upload. Worst part, while uploading (and creating the pages) my entire system is brought to a grind (and I have a fairly new MacBook Pro). Typically what happens is: first any open applications begin to show considerable slow down, then I can no longer open any new applications - the icon will bounce in the dock once and then that's it, spotlight will then cease to work not finding anything I search for, and finally icons from applicatios being to disappear - it's like hte entire system is having a massive stroke. If I manage to force quit iWeb (which doesn't always happen) and then restart, the system is fine - but seriously, this is just nuts and unacceptable for a product that has been in release for over a year. (Version 1.1.2)

NORAA Actually, you can defragment your startup volume - just not do a full optimization. Choosing the Quick On-line mode doens't require the disk to be unmounted, and only defragments files (those that aren't in use at least). For a full optimization of the disk (where the used space is compacted to create the largest possible contiguous amount of free space) you need to boot up from the cd, or another volume. iCalMenu | Oct 9 2006 |
NORAA First, you DO NOT need to register this app to try it. When you open the app, and it asks you to register, click on the "register" button. iCal will open up, and then an open dialog box will open, to let you select the license key file, just click on cancel - and you'll be able to test out the app. I don't know if there is a time-limit on this method or not, of if any of the apps features have been disabled...but it at least allows you to test it out. For the most part, a great little app...easily lets you add events to any calendar weeks, months, or years in advance without having to go to that date in iCal. A couple of things though, one better documentation for sure (though it isn't hard to figure out) and I wish it didn't have toa ctually open up iCal to work. (Version 1.0)

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom | Jan 9 2006 |
NORAA I'm still messing around with it some (just downloaded it last night) - but the program certainly has potential. It is far faster than Aperture, and provides some nicer and more advanceded editing options than Aperture as well. However, Aperture interface his hands down far and away superior than Lightroom's. Now I know this is only a beta, but what Apple has done with Aperture's GUI is simply amazing, and I honestly don't think Lightroom will ever catch up to it. Is this a deal breaker? Probably not, and depending on the final price, Lightroom really could be an "aperture killer." However, Apple has a year or so to fix a lot of the annoying little bugs in aperture - and so far Apple's proline of software has been fantastic. (Version 1.0b1)
