An excellent app. I needed something to help me make the most of my homework time so I went looking for a timer. Found this and it's almost perfect.

It's just missing the ability to pause and some way to delete presets.

Unless you host your recordings on their website, they have no access to them. Since you don't have to host them on their server, I don't see a problem.

Leopard's Spotlight can still find files in the Library folders but only if you specify those folders.

Apple changed the way Spotlight works so that it doesn't search the "entire" computer, just everything outside the system folders (which contain thousands of files).

It seems the QuickTime movie is just an advertisement for their actual product.

That is if you can even call it a product. All it appears to be is a Quartz composition with the camera feed going to the cube, something that is very simple to do.

Demeter is really Shiira 1.2.2 with several extra features and WebKit bug fixes.

Back when the Safari 3 beta came out, whomever installed it suffered some issues with apps that relied on WebKit. Shiira was one of them. Since the developers have moved onto Shiira 2 they aren't going to fix the older, more functional 1.2.2 anytime soon.

So SuperShiira, now Demeter, was born.

I haven't looked much into the deinterlacing option as I don't often come across interlaced video, so, no comment on that one. I just threw it in because the ability was there.

But I do agree with you when you say the Wii needs to accept larger cards, or a hard drive. They also need to fix the issue where it runs out of memory and just stops altogether. I was able to watch a very poor quality version of The Breakfast Club for about an hour before it stopped. The high quality version lasted only a minute.

It seems they forgot to update their documentation. If you were using Privoxy 3.0.6 then uninstall it (using the uninstall script in the same folder), install Privoxy 3.0.8, and then restart.

Privoxy 3.0.8 installs into the startup items.

Either way Radon Browser 1.0.2.1, as it is, is licensed under the GPL. You can't change what your app says sitting on my desktop.

So, you are obligated to release the source code for this version. Future versions you won't have to.

icon
Type: Comments
Date: 29 Jan 2008 02:23

That is really odd. Can you still download it though?

And just check inside ffmpegX for the progress app. Right click, Show Package Contents, and it should be inside the Resources folder.

icon
Type: Comments
Date: 28 Jan 2008 05:27

Err, where are these lines of code you speak of? Radon Browser is licensed under the GPL so these lines you speak of should be freely available but I can't seem to find them.

Tell us where we can get them or you risk being reported for misuse of license.

It downloads in Safari just fine. What browser are you using?

And Progress.app is the application that reports back the progress of the actions you've specified. It should be in the ffmpegX.app bundle.

Privoxy is not dialling home. Whenever an app tries to access the net it's hitting Privoxy and telling it where to go. Then when Privoxy tries to go somewhere it hits Little Snitch.

Whenever I turn Privoxy off I run into the problem that none of my browsers have been cleared to go through Little Snitch. It's because Privoxy deals with net traffic.

I'd thought you'd have realised the moment you denied and the net stopped working.

I used to have this installed back when I had Tiger but never reinstalled it when I upgraded to Leopard.

Well today a mate of mine came around with his virus ridden portable HDD, formatted as NTFS, that he wanted me to scan.

After I installed NTFS-3G I could no longer mount the drive. I knew you need to unmount on Windows correctly (a hassle) for it to work but what about the viruses?

We did it anyway and now I have full write access. Currently scanning with ClamXav and have so far seen one over sized ZIP file. There are more here somewhere.

I wish there was, perhaps, a visual interface like a Preference Pane so I could easily turn NTFS-3G off and on easily without having to fire up the COMMAND file. Not being able to mount some drives because they were unmounted incorrectly can be annoying.

You're absolutely right. Why do we need another web format to worry about? Especially one that doesn't work.

No, literally, it hasn't worked on every computer I've tried. Perhaps it's because there are no development tools at all. It even looks like there's not going to be any support for PPC Macs past v1.0.

Microsoft Silverlight 2.0, now officially working on nothing.

I don't feel I can write a review yet but here are some things I've noticed and would like.

1. Why does it say "Medium" Speed? Is it meant to say "Median" Speed?

2. This may just be my connection but downloading is all over the place. Anywhere from 6kBps to 1000kBps on 1.5Mb (average should be about 192kBps).

3. You can't resize the window

4. It doesn't calculate an estimated time till done based on speed

5. Browser integration would be nice

6. Download folder is not saved. I like my files to go to the desktop but it would save the path after I quit.

Other than those Jet It! is a pretty sleek Java app.

Well these links add more to my assumption that Apple doesn't update their MacUpdate page themselves.

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33631

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Security/Apple-Security-Update-2007-009.shtml

Both lead to incorrect links, one is out of date and the other lists the correction.

And sure the links in the installer and Software Update don't go directly to the description of the update but it does take you to a page that lists all security updates. If you can't navigate from there there is something wrong.

icon
Type: Comments
Date: 22 Dec 2007 21:54

Is the link to the page that describes all the changes and additions not good enough when it shows up in Software Update and the installer?

And does Apple even manage this page? Other people can suggest a new version here on MacUpdate, often missing key new features and forgetting to change system requirements and the like. It's happened to me before with my software.

There are precompiled versions of Wine now? Where'd you find them?

icon
Type: Comments
Date: 19 Dec 2007 04:10

CrossOver isn't just Wine repackaged. It's a lot easier to use as well as being able to run more apps. Just because it doesn't work exactly for you doesn't mean it's a failure.

CrossOver the user friendly version of Wine. Users don't have to compile and gamers specifically don't have to get OpenGL working by themselves.

Not entirely the fault of CodeWeavers. Most of the work is done by volunteers on the Wine project after all.

Okay, here's me cleaning this up.

1. SWF means Shockwave File - a Flash format

2. SWF is not a Real format, it belongs to Adobe

3. When I recommended the official standalone player, I meant use Adobe's official standalone player

For Intel:

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/9/sa_flashplayer_9.app.zip

For PPC:

Bandwidth is a major commodity these days, especially in Australia.

icon

Jing does work, it just saves in a proprietary format that most don't support because there is no need to.

Most apps that do support SWF files only have support up to version 5, 6 or 7 as well. What you're saying is that you would also expect a Realplayer file to work in, say, QuickTime because it just should.

But you say you need Realplayer. It's the same as using Adobe's player.

There are some key differences between you and Tom.

1. Tominated Browser is only at version 0.2b, not 1.0

2. Tom is bogged down by his Year 8 homework right now (To Tom: Just wait until you're buried under Yr 11)

3. Tom looks like he is trying to do something original. From what he's revealed about himself, he's learning Objective-C, adding features but keeping everything light.

And how can you call Tom a novice when you've both done the same things? I've seen both of you on Mac Rumors talking about your browsers, asking for feedback.

The thing is, making a basic WebKit browser isn't that hard. Back when I first saw Tominated Browser (and learned the dev was 13!) I thought "Why can't I do that?" So I tried, succeeded and didn't bother releasing it because there are over 100 Mac browsers and I don't want to become another.

Flux is in excellent piece and I can clearly see the direction it's going in but it's still not there yet.

For example I cannot change the colour of text and most of the other text attributes don't function either.

There is also no point to the HTML editor at the moment as changes are instantly removed. In an attempt to colour the text by hand, upon hitting "Update", the formatting was removed. Adding the colour in Smultron however works like a charm.

Back when I picked up my PowerBook I tried OpenOffice.org and NeoOffice but they were so slow compared to MS Office. But now I have my MacBook Pro things are all different.

NeoOffice is so much faster than both MS Office and OpenOffice.org, it's unbelievable. It boots faster, actually responds to user input and general behaviour is a lot more user friendly.

That's not to say I don't have any annoyances though. For some reason the display doesn't refresh all that well. I had pieces of an image I'd dragged left in a crumbly path. It has also been hard trying to find some features where I'd expect to find them. It's probably because I'm so used to Office though.

And one last thing; bring out v2.2.1 quickly. The spell checker in NeoOffice doesn't work!

For some reason after I updated to the latest version, whenever I apply my custom speed the fans rev up then go back down to what they were. I've tried the last version and same thing. I know its not a problem with the fans because Fan Control works perfectly.

Any solution would be greatly appreciated...

Yep, it's called UNO and it allows you to change all brushed metal windows (and aqua) to the iTunes/Mail.app plastic unified look

IMHO the latest SVN of Transmission is a hell of a lot better than the current version.

(On a MacBook Pro) Poisoned is a beautiful application but only on PPC Macs. I can't find anything now I'm on Intel partly due to it being PPC only so I'm stuck with FrostWire for now.

For everyone still on PPC that's having problems with connections try PoisonedAlt.

Does as advertised. My only problem is that you don't have full control over what apps get the treatment and so my Mail.app looks awful while using UNO shade (my favourite for Finder windows)

Works perfectly with latest iTunes and fixes the horrible interface Apple is showing off. Recommended for every user, especially for those that missed brushed metal.
