NEMESYS You can create a recurring event in iCal and set it to launch File Synchronization. If you set File Synchronization for automatic synchronization, it will synchronize/backup your selected pairs of folders and can even quit after the sync is done. (Version 1.4.4)

CanoScan Toolbox | Nov 18 2008 |
NEMESYS I would very much so like to know how you can run this version of the Toolbox on a MacBook Pro. As far as I know, the driver for the LiDE scanners is PPC only which prevent an Intel-based application from loading it, including PhotoShop CS3, unless you're some sort of magician. I tried to launch the Toolbox under Rosetta but didn't get any luck. I was still unable to choose the driver. If anybody knows how to do that, that would be awesome! (Version 5.0.12)

NEMESYS: "I would very much so like to know how you can run this version of the Toolbox on a MacBook Pro" Well, I have just (1) opened CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.1.2 (2007) on my MacBookPRO running Leopard OS X 15.5.5, and (2) performed a scan... so I'm having a hard time understanding your problem. Be sure to PLUG IN your Canon scanner into your USB port otherwise Toolbox will NOT open, but then a small warning box should popup and tell you exactly that and how to remedy the situation. I checked MacUpDate regarding your claim, but it clearly states "PPS/Intel" Mac compatible. Rosetta or Native should not be a limitation on using this program. Besides the point of my original comment was that instead of using Toolbox, I use the CanoScan PLUGIN for Adobe Photoshop 9.0.2 (CS2); you choose. The PLUGIN advantage when selecting File : Import : CanoScan LiDE 70 is that your Menu in Adobe Photoshop is far more versatile and permits a Preview scan before the actual Scan itself, and the image display is huge for both. If you have Photoshop, it is by far the better way to scan using a CanoScan through the plugin. Also, I was in Fry's Electronics today and checked out Canon's latest mobile printer offering, the new iP100. I think it's new specifications are truly awesome, a giant leap over the previously incredible i70 & i90 models, and also when compared to the HP offering. However, I liked the i90's more angular case design better than the rounded new case, especially the way the old battery option case looked when attached to the rear of the printer...but that's just me. The sound of the cow is actually the DogCow, a legendary figure at Apple's Developer Technical Support. There was even a tech note about it. Clarus was his name. I just thought it would be funny to put it there but, as you found out, it's not really a cow. It's a dogcow ;-) (Version 1.4.4)

Second Life | Jul 24 2008 |
NEMESYS I've been using Second Life for almost 2 years now, initially on a PowerBook G4 and for over a year now on a MacBook Pro. This application has been the most demanding that I have ever used on my MacBook Pro. I have played Need For Speed Carbon, Age of Empires III, Warcraft III and nothing comes even close to bring my MacBook Pro on his knees like Second Life does. When logging in, I get around 15-20 fps. After 10-15 minutes, my frame rate goes down to about 1.5-2 fps. Yes, you read it right, 1.5 to 2 frames per second. Changing the graphic settings don't have *any* impact. There has been a known issue that has been lingering for over a year now with the NVidia 8600M GT video card in MacBook Pro's. So, if you have one of those, you might reconsider opening an account and putting money into Second Life as you will be sorely disappointed. I have heard that newer MacBook Pros with a 256MB NVidia 8600M GT performs better but I have been unable to see it for myself. I have a MacBook Pro with 3GB RAM running the Intel Core Duo II at 2.4GHz and the NVidia 8600M GT with 256MB of video RAM, all under 10.5.4. The latest versions of Second Life have been consistently worst each time. I used to be able to manage my way around even though you would expect a top notch performance on a laptop costing more than $3000. (Version 1.20.15.92456)

NEMESYS Ouch! What happened here? $399 for a single-user license? Sorry, that's way too expensive for hobbyists. (Version 6.0.10)

Google Notifier | Aug 25 2006 |
NEMESYS 1.9.65 seems to be having the same problem than 1.9.63. Basically, if you try to access your Inbox or compose or try to read a message from the Gmail menu bar item, nothing happens if Google calendar notifications are off. I don't use the application in the Dock so I don't know if it works from the Dock or not. However, somebody emailed me a fix yesterday. Go in the Preferences and turn on the Google calendar notifications. A page will open in your default browser and you might be prompted if you want to activate your Google calendar. Just cancel. Go back to the Google calendar notifications preference and turn it off. Now, whenever you choose something from the Gmail notifier menu, it will open up correctly in your default browser. NEMESYS Don't replace 1.9.61 with this version 1.9.63. This new version can still notify you when you receive new email but none of the menu items to let you access your Gmail account work anymore, while 1.9.61 was fully functional. (Version 1.9.63)

YANOKWA If someone gets me a copy of 1.14, I'll gladly host it. (Version 1.14)

NEMESYS Thanks for the hosted version, but that's still 1.13, not 1.14... (Version 1.14)

NEMESYS Again, posting problems on a public bulletin board won't do you any good, unless you have some hidden agenda of dragging some products down. I personally respond to all emails and try very hard to fix them to the customer's satisfaction. I have never heard about any resource forks being lost. If you really want to be constructive, send me an email with your exact configuration and I can look at the problem. (Version 1.2.1)
