excellent! impressive interface!! some surprisingly great content (in particular a multi part documentary i watched on spacerip about robots) highly recommended. would certainly like to see more high caliber content, but then again, this is all free with no commercials, so i can't complain. (but do we really need more swimsuit channels? ugh-and i'm a guy...bring on quality content and sign up with more producers!!)

performance wise:

Penryn MBP, 6Mbit/640 DSL profile: not a single stutter, it played like butter. VERY FAST buffering, and CONSISTENT for every channel/show. impressive! not a single hiccup with hours of watching! Using my net monitor it seems the app uses less than 100k/sec, so again that's applaudable.

Quality of video is 8/10...respectable for streaming, but don't compare it to a dvd.....high motion brings the codec to its knees and pixelation is visible. by comparison, on stills it does a fantastic job.

a few minor bugs (cursor disappearing, some buttons get "stuck" in the explorer)

love this app, always the first thing i install on any new/reformatted mac, (along with quicksilver ;P)

seems incompatible with leopard/boot camp...network info in the menubar resets after reboot.

hasn't been updated in a while, so i'm off to look for a replacement. it's served me well, and who knows, it may continue if i can't find a suitable replacement. though i think istatpro may have had similar functions (going by memory - so don't shoot).

cheers

i've been playing xplane on and off since version 6.

it was actually very fun to fly the V22 Osprey; VTOL aircraft. fond memories of perfecting my take off and naval landings.

the initial reviewer seems upset about the steep learning curve (which honestly is to be expected, this is a simulation and not a game at all, no missions etc.)

if he read a review or two before buying it, i'm sure he would have been much better off. a game isn't a $10 dollar movie, they usually cost several times that, so i just don't get people that don't do some reading before making a purchasing decision. i'm assuming he meant the apple store.

oh well, nothing to do but take it out here i suppose ;)

anyway, i do agree the developer could have included an interactive tutorial, but i doubt they have the resources to dedicate to that, since this game focuses very much on the math & physics simulation of flight.

i'll say the 5 minute demo is really a joke and especially frustrating to learn -- just as your making your first bit of progress -- only to have it boot you out. it'll take several launches before you even get your feet wet. annoying..

Converted my entire runtime (20GB) in under a few minutes. Goodbye xshruggy! RSRConv. is great! Thanks so much dev! Can't complain, it's free but I guess a status bar is the only thing that's missing. :)

i've tried thumbnail pro, pic2icon (on versiontracker) and fasticns. Pic2Icon is my favourite except that sometimes it produces blank icons. It also hasn't been updated in years. FastICNS is great. Thank you for making it free.

A couple suggestions: The 3d cube is distracking and totally unnecessary. A progress bar during batch mode would be great.

I've also been a user since 1.0 when it was first created as a drawing aid. Since then, the program has switched many hands (fractal, metacreations, efrontier) Not really good (of course) and ever iteration has added more lumpy sacks of coal for a mule that was never designed for this. Features have been packed onto a legacy core. Its knees buckle and its spine has grotesquely ruptured discs.

First thing you'll notice is that it's slow. dead slow. Loading certain figures can take over a minute. The library's format and structure is ancient and is a serious PIA when you begin to install third party content. (DAZ, Renderosity) Expect countless folders with names beginning with !!! because content developers are fighting for dominance within your installation. You'll shake your head in disbelief and spend countless hours reorganizing folders.

The content community however, for clothes, characters etc. is very much alive and active. There are legions of fans, and I for one atribute this to the programs relative ease of use. While definitely sporting an unconventional/proprietary UI is of much debate, i found it easy to use. Though, the more serious you become with it , the more you'll realize it's limitations. It was designed from the ground up to be a simple application, and this is no longer in it's favour.

It feels as though the core program has aged and introduced hacks as a means of low-budget feature evolution. MATs, python scripts, etc.

Thanks to e-frontier for continuing to make a mac version, but this is one program that's due for a MAJOR overhaul or complete rewrite. (ha good luck)

Just found this via O'Grady and I must say it isn't an April Fools Joke! This actually works and it's given my 12" 1.33 PowerBook new life! Thank you! Thank you! The best settings I've found are: max sensitivy, slowest speed, and max resolution. Works like a charm in the finder. Superb and free!!!! :) Great job guys.
