MU5TI Free & adblock supporting... Camino? Free, but does not support adblock out of the box. Unless you mean usercontent.css blocking, which in fact is not blocking but hiding (i.e. "stuff" is downloaded and then hidden). Safari? Free, but does not support adblock out of the box. Unless you buy $10 PithHelmet and/or mean loading user stylesheets. Firefox? Free, yes. Good browser, yes. But...not really a Mac application. Services? System's spell checker? Keychain support? Aqua interface? Oh, sure it has AdBlock. 1. hosts file (in /etc there is a hosts file) 2. some kind of installed proxy (Privoxy, BFilter, etc) 3. Camino/Firefox's hostperm.1 I use all three. Yes, I really hate ads. (Version 5.5b3)

MU5TI Sam, before hijacking the reviews further (I think we've done it already, but...), let's argue in private. I value your comments and would like you to see my point as well, which I think I've failed to make clear. (Your two points on my view, for example...) Anyways, should you care to continue the discussion, you can reach me at mustiman at gmail. (Version 1.1.5a)

MU5TI Sam: Moot argument. This school project *requires* WebKit. In other words, it is a frontend. Linux is not a frontend. (And another point, Linux was, is, and will never be something new or groundbreaking, but UNIX was). Actually I liked the comparison to Firefox better. It was a bit more possible, though improbable. Now you stepped it up: comparing this to Linux. Oh no. As for the "some people..." comment: I have all the respect in the world for programmers, as I have close friends who code to put bread on the table, and as I don't know how to code myself. And creating something out of nothing is cool, to say the least. My main problem is people with dumbass remarks and calling others "fools", whereby making illogical comparisons to tried, tested, 200M times-downloaded software to school projects. Adium | Aug 7 2006 |
MU5TI What is your problem, moeb? It took me less than one minute to find the beta from Adium's own site and download. This is not your mother's internet where everyone has to spoon feed you. You do your search, you download your stuff. Just because the Adium team is a bit obsessed with quality and they want to release a proper beta does not entitle you to flame your nonsense here. Grow up. Or go back to your MySpace and flame your friends there. (Version 0.89.1)

MU5TI "The browser is fine, you never know, it come become the next firefox in a year or two, so please people, don't be so dumb." Now tell me "come" is a mistype for "can", and I will roll on the floor bursting my gut laughing. Firefox...this school project...he actually compared this to Firefox...MUHAHAAAAAAA (Version 1.1.4a)

X-Plane | Aug 6 2006 |
MU5TI Autopilot? So, basically, scenery watching. Oh, more than what MSFS gives? MSFS is for Windows. Apples and oranges. Different platform, different beast. MSFS can never reach XPlane's realism and fun. (Version 8.5b5)

Picasa Web Albums Uploaders | Aug 4 2006 |
I hope it's a sign that we'll have Picasa on Mac, as iPhoto is inferior in terms of photo management (too many duplicates, closed database format, etc etc). Picasa is like butter on even the slowest of PCs I've used it. Also good to see Google working on Mac. (Version 1.0.0.1)

Firefox | Aug 3 2006 |
MU5TI We have several options for adblocking, depending on your comfort/expertise level. 1. hostperm.1 blocking for gecko browsers (Fx, Camino, etc, great for cookies and banners) 2. BFilter proxy. Really good. (system wide) You might also want to try Privoxy, or something similar, though configuration might be a pain. BFilter is set and forget. It is as easy as changing the Network Location from the Apple Menu. 3. Hosts file. (system wide) Resides in /private/etc (or just /etc as there's a link). The big kahuna. 4. usercontent.css (browser-specific, this is not blocking per se, but hiding). 5. AdBlock extension, PithHelmet, SafariBlock, etc (browser-specific, might introduce stability/speed issues) 6. Router configuration, if you have one. Camino is really nice, considering the limited amount of power behind it, compared to Safari or Firefox. Yes, it doesn't have extensions, this and that, but it is fast. Aqua. Constantly updated as code is taken from mozilla branch. (Version 1.5.0.6)

MU5TI Relative. Everything is relative. The tabs, yes I'll give it to you, some users love to hate the tab implementation of OW, others swear by it. Comes with a 30-day trial period after which there are lots of ways to use it in unpaid mode if you're so inclined. As for no advantages over Firefox...full Services support (what? you ask, I know), full access to System dictionary, ColorSync support, editable text fields, slightly lower memory and CPU usage...oh, before all that, OW is built on Cocoa, and it does NOT look like a poor Windows application. Having said that, no, I don't work for Omni, and I use Camino. (Version 5.5b2)

BFilter | Jul 24 2006 |
MU5TI Works as advertised. If you want to tweak the rules, head to /Library/Application Support/BFilter after reading the forums and documentation. The most beautiful part of this is the Network Locations are added by the installer, so if something is not working as it should, you can go back to your original Network Location. Memoir | Jul 21 2006 |
MU5TI 1. Limited to one notebook (or one database) 2. Cannot designate where to save the notebook (a la Yojimbo, for example). 3. Stores some data as rtfd files, and some data in SQLite format (can you say "BLOB"?) 4. How is this different than Mori, except the price? 5. Not very intuitive to "import"...drag and drop works (sometimes), whereas clicking on "Import" or selecting it from the menu does not work. 6. When importing works, the image is auto-sized. SOHO Notes | Jul 10 2006 |
MU5TI 1. Why does this depend on OpenBase, when much faster SQLite is integrated into the OS (Can you say "Core Data"?) 2. Why does the uninstallation leave traces of OpenBase framework when in fact this is the only application that installed it? And even though I said "remove completely"? 3. Crash prone. Bulky. Slow. Yojimbo, or to an extent Mori, or Journler run circles around this one. 4. Why do I need all those default data? I have to go and delete everything one by one to make this "my" database. 5. 25.5 MB package installer? No, thanks. (Version 5.5)
