MTPALMS  Yes I did read the description, but up until I made my previous post, VH was still working fine.

It's now open source, free, and called FilmRedux, but requires Leopard.

I also found a bookmarklet that coverts flv to mp4 on the fly which will work until I can upgrade to Leopard on both my Macs.

MTPALMS  VisualHub no longer converts youtube (flv) videos to Quicktime files for me. I get an error that "stops all conversions", although the unconverted file plays in flvThing (a flash video player). Is this the beginning of the end of VH's functionality, and is it time to check out FilmRedux?

MTPALMS  This software only seems to convert from NTSC to PAL and not the other way?

FORMICA  Why would you think that? If your input file is PAL then you would check the NTSC box to convert it to that standard. If your input file is NTSC then you would check the PAL box to convert it to that standard (if you're playing it outside of the US, Canada or Japan).

***..

MTPALMS  I'm not sure what all the buttons and drop down on the front are for, only the play/pause button seems to work for me. To change channels one has to go to the drop down menu in the back.

What I really need is a player that sits on my desktop*, so I grab it, hit F12 and drag it there. Except sometimes the UI disappears (even though the music continues to play), and I have to quit the process in the Activity Monitor in order to stop it. I only mention this little anomaly in case any one else may want to use it as a desktop player.

*None of the handfull of players available work flawlessly, and most simply don't work at all.

MTPALMS  I can't get it to open. I drag it from disk image to the Applications folder, dbl click on it, and "Click Repair" appears in the menu bar, but there are no drop downs, no startup window, etc. I have to manually Force Quit it from the Finder.

I'm running the latest java (1.4 and 1.5) versions with OS X 10.4.11 on a MacBook Pro. I tried dropping the application icon onto the SwitchJava icon as well, to no effect.

I would appreciate some help!

This sounds like just the program I'm looking for to remove pops from old classical Vox label recordings. Audacity and SoundSoap can only do so much.

SANDY_J  I have exactly the same problem (on OS X 1.4.11), but found a work-around: ctrl-click on the app, choose "Show Package Contents", open the Contents folder, then the Resources folder, then the Java folder. Inside this you should find a file called "ClickRepair.jar". Make an alias for this somewhere convenient (e.g. in the Applications folder), and use this to launch to application instead of the normal icon. Works for me, anyway. SJ.
