Type: CommentsDate: 10 Jun 2008 13:06Xtorrent has been abandoned by the developer and will not be updated or fixed.
If you pay for it now, you might as well shove your money in the nearest sidewalk grate.
However, the developer has no reason to take down his website, since it enables/encourages people to still send him money, regardless of what state of disrepair the product is in. That's the kind of developer he is.
(Pair "David Watanabe" with any one of the following words and pump it into Google: bastard, ripoff, complaint, asshole, rude, cheat, dishonest, liar, cheat, thief. You can probably also think of a few other words to try yourself; they'll all be there...)

Type: CommentsDate: 10 Jun 2008 12:51It's a shame they didn't get onto an Aqua version from the beginning, like they should have.
NeoOffice has sprung up in the meantime, to fill the void, which unfortunately relegates the Mac version of OpenOffice to the realm of Technological Necessity, rather than Realistic Product.
Basically, to Mac users, OpenOffice serves only as the technical underpinnings to NeoOffice, and Windows/Linux counterpart. Obviously, without OpenOffice there is no NeoOffice, but the Mac products produced directly from the OpenOffice effort are not really worth spending much time in.
Let them generate their code for Win/Linux/etc, and simply wait for NeoOffice to adapt it. The results are much more pleasant, productive and Mac-like than the alien X11 version.

Type: ReviewDate: 10 Jun 2008 12:39This is such a good program and getting better all the time. It took a while to hit its stride, but now it seems to be mature enough that they're adding lots of interesting features to the suite instead of simply trying to make it work properly. There really is no reason not to keep a copy lying around, whether or not you have another productivity suite.
If you don't have any office software already, this is the place to start. NeoOffice is free, it runs great, it's very compatible, and it's learning new Mac-native tricks with every patch. It's far easier to install and use than OpenOffice for X11, more mature and stable than OpenOffice Aqua, and more feature-rich than most of the other independent word-processor products.
And even if you have Microsoft Office or iWork (or something else), it's still worth keeping an eye on, and maybe keeping it around for some of the things your regular suite can't do (or can't do as well or as easily). Sort of like keeping two browsers around. You can (legally) hand it out to people if you're getting complaints about these new-fangled docx, xlsx and pptx files you're sending people, or to give your students or your friends/relatives who are on a budget.

Type: CommentsDate: 14 May 2008 13:53Unfortunately, same thing happened here too. Updated a d2 and a 2big without any issues, but the Rugged is now dead. -- Update starts, then does "Uploading configuration" and at 83% percent it stops. Then the updater tries to apply the update a few more times before it gives us and informs us that the update failed. -- DON'T USE THIS UPDATE ON A RUGGED, IT WILL BE DESTROYED!

Type: ReviewDate: 21 Apr 2008 13:33Nice to have a FREE, recently developed Cocoa packet sniffer for OS X. It's quite usable, and useful. One might think that because it has "Cocoa" in the name, that it must be a UI masterpiece; it's not. The "New Capture" dialog box has a stop and start button, neither of which are labeled. You have to rest your mouse over them and wait for a tooltip to appear to know what's what. Some features I would like to see added are 1.) the ability to search for text inside of packet payload and 2.) the ability to select ONLY hex or ONLY text in the packet contents pane. Anyway... Cocoa Packet Analyzer is off to a nice start. I'm thankful to the developers and I'm looking forward to its future improvements.

Type: CommentsDate: 5 Apr 2008 15:23To all those people who claim that this software is too difficult to use: it's not. If you're too lazy to figure out anything on your own, then this is not for you.
Missing a configuration file? It's all explained on the bochs website:
http://bochs.sourceforge.net/doc/docbook/user/bochsrc.html
You HAVE to create your own configuration file for every virtual machine, as Bochs expects each virtual machine you want will be different.
Even if you couldn't find that with Google search, the readme clearly explains that all docs can be found either
http://bochs.sf.net/doc/docbook/index.html
or
http://bochs.sf.net/docs-html
Nothing in life is completely free. The reason why VPC, Parallels, VMWare, etc. are so "expensive" is precisely that free alternatives are more difficult to use.
However, just because Bochs doesn't have a nice GUI to hold your hand through every step of the way doesn't mean the instructions aren't clear. No CS knowledge is even needed--just copy and paste things from the website. If it doesn't do what you expect, ask someone on the Bochs mailing list. If you're too lazy, then you deserve to lose $60 to Parallels or VMWare to buy their software.
BTW, Helmo: If you really want to run C64 or Vic 20 software, there are emulators available on the internet. Bochs has the ability to emulate an entire IA-32 computer including whatever hardware you wish for it to have. It's for testing one OS on another OS, not for playing games, running Windows 95, or whatever you thought it was for. I suggest you find something better to do than trolling on MU, like learning English.

Type: ReviewDate: 26 Mar 2008 09:24Currently, this is the only mail notifier app for OS X mail that boasts this many features and has such an efficient UI. For those of us who use Apple Mail as our central means of e-mail communication, the Leopard release of this app is a godsend. Please donate and help further development of this app!
So far, I have not encountered any problems with this beta release. I will be submitting bugs that I find to the developer if/as they appear.

Type: CommentsDate: 8 Mar 2008 05:03as i see it you have the option to export the mindmap to oplm. so it should be fairly easy to share. maybe the developer has an open eary for supporting other export-formats?

Type: DeveloperDate: 12 Jan 2008 16:52There's a small chance I could continue development. I may still have one of my old ancient powerbooks laying around, maybe I can put OS X on it and XCode...
I haven't programmed in ObjectiveC/Cocoa in ages thou.. so only time will tell. (I only wish I had used a version control back then)
I am suprised to know it even runs anymore, and that someone uses it. I pretty much thought no one cared about it anymore.

Type: DeveloperDate: 12 Jan 2008 15:07What I mean by a "Dev box" is I no longer have any mac's that I can use to develop on. (unless I can do it from a amd64 linux box somehow)
Also, I'm pretty sure that's the latest source code (with lots of garbage in it because I just tarred the whole thing), because otherwise I don't have it. The box that I had it on died along time ago.

Type: DeveloperDate: 5 Jan 2008 22:44I no longer have a dev box that I can use so this is an unmaintained project.
You can get the source code here http://scourge.swifthost.net/index.php?page=scourge
or more specifically http://scourge.swifthost.net/Scourge.tar.bz2

Type: CommentsDate: 14 Dec 2007 17:02What are you talking about? By "military time" do you mean 24-hour time? What exactly are the implications of using a 24-hour clock? Most of the world goes on a 24-hour system because that's the length of a calendar day.

Type: CommentsDate: 27 Aug 2007 05:13No, ifconfig doesn't work with airport. You need either this software or to do it by manually hex editing the drivers (tedious)
Nice to hear this project isn't dead, hopefully its a little less buggy now. Would be nice to have a save fuction for the Spoofed kext's but awesome piece of software =)
Also, understandably has some compatabilty issues with Kismac.

Type: ReviewDate: 11 Jul 2007 19:58I've been using and recommending cocktail for years now. It does exactly what it's intended for, plus has all sorts of nice extras. $15 is a bargain considering how much work has gone into this program over time. Support mac developers!

One small improvement would be the addition of icons to the different compression formats.

Type: CommentsDate: 16 Jan 2007 17:03> it is just as likely (if not more likely) the browser's fault
This usually happens because the web server has mis-identified a binary file as a text file. Not the browser's fault.

Type: ReviewDate: 7 Jan 2007 17:03Really well implemented and very slick, and yes it needs to say an intel mac is required but the game as a whole is perfectly done. Only comes with 3 songs (though they are pretty good) but you can download more.
Plus, the keyboard makes a decent (though dorky) guitar substitute.
Overall, perfectly does what it means to do and looks pretty good to boot.

Type: ReviewDate: 27 Jul 2006 23:30Hands down the most fun I've had with a piece of mac freeware. The mix of RTS and RPG elements are well-done, and the scalable difficultly levels make it possible for anyone to pick it up and play. Absolutely worth a try.

Type: CommentsDate: 27 Jul 2006 23:20I'm almost certain those are just normal artifacts from wmv compression, not the fault of this program. It plays back just as well as the windows media player for me.

Type: CommentsDate: 19 Jun 2006 13:19I switched from a PC to a Mac, and the one thing I missed was Paint. The fun little drawing app that I so adored, so I looked around, and this is a great alternative Paint! Has all the basic bitmap drawing/editing features, plus more than Paint! I love it!

Type: TroubleshootingDate: 9 Mar 2006 19:36Look, if you're getting white dots, then your card doesn't support pixel shaders. That's the minimum for this to run, which means you need a radeon 9550, or geforce fx5200 or higher. Radeon 9000 is definitely not good enough. Once it does run though...using backlight, this thing clocks about 2-3% cpu usage, tops.

Type: CommentsDate: 9 Dec 2005 17:22Just FYI, 9800XT is an entirely different chipset than the 9600XT, which is actually cheaper to produce (but does tend to overclock better).
