Kensington MouseWorks X
Sep 9 2009

MSTIELAU  From Kensington tech support:

"We are sorry to inform you that the MouseWorks software is not compatible with Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard). We have no plan as of now to update the software, however we can only suggest you to check our website for any such update on the MouseWorks software."

Contrary to what this tech support person said, Mouseworks software does indeed continue to work on my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard installed. (There is something funny going on with the double-click speed which I can not quite figure out, but other than that, it still seems to function.)

When you click on Mouseworks in the control panel, a message comes up and says "To use the “MouseWorks” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." When you click OK, it does what is says it would do and Mouseworks opens.

MSTIELAU  I really like this app. Here's hoping the developer updates it for Snow Leopard.

MSTIELAU  I liked this app a lot. But it seems to have stopped working after I installed Snow Leopard. Here's hoping that the developer continues to update this nice application.

MSTIELAU  I couldn't get it to do anything. The application installs and opens OK, but no window appears, so there's no way to create or work with a project. I'm running 10.5.5. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

MSTIELAU  Not sure exactly what is fixed or changed, but at least the update went smoothly, and things seem to be generally working OK, so far.

Parallels Desktop
Aug 3 2007

MSTIELAU  I have had great luck with Parallels. I only use Windows for a limited number of applications, but they all run great, and very fast. Updating Parallels when a new version is released is generally very smooth. My only gripe is with Parallels support. I've had the need to submit a tech support trouble ticket only a couple of times, but the folks at Parallels didn't respond to either one of them. No reply, no help, nothing. I just don't bother anymore.

JustLooking

MSTIELAU  This application works well. Fast browsing of photos! Suggestions: 1) Would like to be able to drop a folder of photos on the icon instead of selecting all the individual photos and dragging/dropping them. 2) I've found that you can turn off the 'not saved' notification after rotating a photo, but it would be nice if JustLooking remembered which photos were rotated, without saving (while still in the same session), in case you want to run through them again.

MSTIELAU  This doesn't appear to work on my 2.66 GHz Mac Pro. Selecting "Safe Sleep Now" causes the machine to go into normal sleep - no difference.

CNAMBRUTIS  It does that for my mac, also. I thought it might have been my mac, since this computer is four years old already.

Zingg!
Jan 26 2007

MSTIELAU  This is a great little CM because you tell it which applications you want listed, unlike Apple's version which lists pretty much all the apps on your hard drive. Unfortunately, Zingg doesn't work with Intel macs, and I *really* miss it since I upgraded. It would be really great if the developer, or someone else, could adapt this concept to a CM for Intel Macs.

MSTIELAU  I just upgraded to a Intel Mac and I feel lost without this wonderful little CM device. I used it all the time. Haven't been able to find anything comparable. If anyone knows of an alternative, please post it here.

JustLooking
Nov 27 2006

MSTIELAU  A great start. I like the fact that you can move photos to the trash - which is good for editing. As a suggestion, I would like to be able to drag and drop a folder full of images onto JustLooking's icon. Didn't work when I tried it. Also, a way to 'mark' images would be really nice. In this scheme, 'marked' images would be selected in the Finder after quitting the app. Just a suggestion. :-)
