MRHOOKS I don't consider it non-relevant at all. I have the CPU meter displayed as "User and System (Small Text)", and IMHO it looks faint and blurry without anti-aliasing turned off. I wish the dev would reconsider. (Version 1.4b1)

MRHOOKS Nice little program. I haven't really done a thorough comparison to SoundSource, to which this app is very similar. They're both small enough that it probably isn't necessary. Although, since it's a regular app, you don't have to reboot or use an app that can force empty the Trash in order to be completely rid of it. The Menubar icon is too big and detailed though. IMHO it looks out of place next to...well, just about every other Menubar icon. Not as bad as SoundSource's icon sometimes appearing as a big black square, I suppose, but close. (Version 1.1)

MRHOOKS Repairing permissions didn't help me. Brand new install of Leopard, and SafariStand is the only InputManager for Safari installed (the only other InputManager I have is GrowlCamino). I installed it the manual way, dropping the entire folder into ~/Library/InputManagers. I know nothing of SIMBL. I noticed this version does not have a loader file, but I imagine that isn't the problem. (Version 3.0L151)

Transmission | Aug 13 2007 |
MRHOOKS Transmission has always had more lag than other clients when pausing - I don't like it, but I don't expect to see it change anytime soon. However, a new bug that's popped up for me is the red star that appears on the Dock icon when a download has finished - specifically, it does not always go away like it is supposed to when Transmission is brought to the foreground. 1.8 GHz G5 running 10.4.9. RIP0FF Nothing to worry here. In version 10.4.9, Apple added a slight delay after pressing the Eject key, this to prevent unwanted opening of the tray in case you press the button by mistake. (Version 10.4.9)

Apple Mac OS X | Apr 8 2007 |
DRKARL What a lame thing for Apple to do, to add a 1/2 second delay and not put it in a big pop-up README after the update. Now that I know (thanks, BananaMoon), no big deal - life goes on. (Before finding this post, I was about to take my tower apart, but then noticed that pounding on the eject key seemed to work...and figured my keyboard went bad, so was searching for alternative keyboard shortcuts.) Apple: a change to the UI like that without notification is really unprofessional. Sheesh. Thanks for the wasted half hour.

Flip4Mac WMV Player | Jan 6 2007 |
MRHOOKS Flip4Mac seems to do a better job of playing WMV files than MPlayer OSX, although MPlayer OSX opens WMV files noticeably faster. Also, does MPlayer have a browser plug-in, or do you have to type the URL into the player? That alone makes Flip4Mac worth having. (Version 2.1)

Camino | Dec 12 2006 |
MRHOOKS CamiFlash helps with the Flash problem, although I'd rather not have to use it. Unfortunately, Camino doesn't render fonts as well as Safari. It also increases the vertical dimensions of widgets, which occasionally results in part of the button/drop-down menu/whatever to get cut off. I've also encountered a minor problem. When I use Yahoo! Mail, the column on the left with all of my folders does not render correctly. The folders appear staggered, rather than in a straight vertical column. I'm not sure how to fix this; I guess I can trash everything in ~/Library/Application Support/Camino and see if that will help. I also have some issues with ad blocking, although at this point I'm not sure if Camino or CamiBlock is the culprit. Oh, and self-refreshing pages cause Camino to go wonky and require a restart, if the page is left open for an extended period of time (over an hour? not sure how long exactly). The same thing happens to me when using Firefox as well, although I haven't tried the latest version. All said, Camino is still my main browser. (Version 1.0.3)

MRHOOKS Has a tendency to wipe out the Address field and render a blank page when I click on certain links, and it isn't even 100% consistent with regards to which links are troublesome. It is consistent in not rendering any link to SourceForge properly (links I click on from MacUpdate) (only the plain text is rendered); then, when I go to select a mirror from which to download, it does the blanking-out thing I described above. It's been doing this for almost as long as I've been using Tiger. It has other little problems/quirks as well, which vary in their level of annoyance. But the above problem makes Safari unusable for me, except for a select few sites which don't seem to produce said problem. So it's Camino for me, which is a shame because Safari still renders fonts, buttons, and pull-down menus better. With Saft and SafariBlock, it also seems to handle ads/pop-ups better than Camino with CamiTools. It also doesn't freeze up the way Camino sometimes does if I leave it running for a long time, especially on a page that reloads itself periodically. (Version 2.0.3)

You Control: Tunes | Oct 6 2006 |
MRHOOKS Works as intended. However, the registration process is kind of a pain, as others have mentioned. Also, it took several unsubscribe attempts before You Software finally stopped sending me email advertising their wares. Also, it did something weird to my Startup Items - if I change any of my Startup Items from what they were when I installed You Control: iTunes, and I stop and restart YC:iT, my Startup Items list reverts to what it was when I installed YC:iT. That's too much crap to deal with. I uninstalled this, set up the same functionality using Butler, and never looked back. (Version 1.4.1b2)

MRHOOKS Plays fine, but the UI is very slapdash. No Dock icon or Menubar menus, not sure why. Its own menu commands don't seem to require the Command key. In other words, it's very non-Mac-like. I also could not get it to download anything using either Safari or Terminal. I haven't tried the third download option yet. Also, it's too bad it can't play downloaded .flv files. Camino | May 6 2006 |
MRHOOKS Excellent browser, faster than Safari. However, Safari still renders small fonts better - Camino, like Firefox, causes small fonts to look either pixellated or blurry (from poor anti-aliasing?), whereas Safari handles all fonts perfectly. Setting the minimum font size in Camino to 10 causes other text to become too large for some reason, and it still doesn't eliminate blurry small fonts. (Version 1.0.1)

BRUCE_Y FYI, the 'Delete_Preferences' script that comes with VLC now deletes two (2) items from user preferences: the 'org.videolan.vlc.plist' and also the 'VLC' folder. The VLC folder (in prefs) has several items in it. So if you don't use the script, be sure to delete both of these things manually. These two prefernces items seem to mismatch and cause problems when switching between versions (084a to 085test). (Version 0.8.5test3)

MRHOOKS Not sure why, but the auto-reconnect feature seems to be a little too quick on the trigger for my DSL line (either the line or my router hiccups once per hour, I have no idea why, causing iChat to disconnect) - if I reconnect manually, I need to wait a second or so before attempting it, or else it won't go through. Any way you could put in a (user-selectable) slight pause before the auto-reconnect attempt? (Version 1.4)

MRHOOKS I used this app on GarageBand, iPhoto, iWeb, and iWork, and trimmed over 100MB total. Great! But it acted a little weird when I used it on Witch. I dropped Witch, it trimmed a little, but Info still said Witch was a universal binary. I dropped it again, it trimmed some more (?!), and still said it was a universal binary. After that, it wouldn't trim any more from Witch. I wondered if it was a PrefPane thing, but I didn't experience any weirdness trimming other PrefPanes. (Version 0.4)
