MRCHEAPS I also tried getting the $5.99 upgrade to keep iWow working with Snow Leopard, but the "SRS10038" code given my Michael (from SRS Labs) doesn't work. Sheesh... (Version 3.1)

Exces | Aug 7 2008 |
MRCHEAPS I used Exces 1.5 a few times, then found that the program wouldn't run anymore - and the two "vault" files that I'd created wouldn't open. 15 gigs of data - out of reach! I contacted the author for help, but didn't hear back...but I found a way to open my files that I thought I'd post in case anyone else has the same problem. Take your "vault" file and rename it to remove the ".exc" extension (your Mac will ask REALLY? and you'll say "yes"). The file magically turns into a folder, inside of which will be several files including a sparseimage. Doubleclick on that, and you'll get a MacOS message asking for the password (the same one you used with Exces). Once you've entered it, a new window will open with your now-accessible files inside. iStabilize | Dec 12 2007 |
MRCHEAPS Like many others, I bought iStabilize as part of the recent Mupromo bundle. I've played with the demo and read some positive reviews here, so let me ask - beg, really - that either the developer or someone who successfully uses the program write up some better documentation. The program is entirely non-intuitive, and the current documentation really doesn't help. If you try to use the "quick start" guide just to see what the program can do, you're unlikely to get any results at all (like others here, I couldn't even locate the menu choices the author was calling for...though I finally stumbled over them later). I suspect that this is a good piece of software, which is sadly almost unusable because of the baffling documentation. Please help, someone! (Version 2.2.3)

iStabilize | Dec 12 2007 |
MRCHEAPS In fiddling with iStabilize, I found that you need to let it analyze the footage first ("Track Motion"). AFTER that (and only after that) you can choose "New Edit Session" - which SOUNDS like you're starting something completely new, but really means you're now going to try to stabilize something. It is only at this step that some of the "Quick Start" menu options appear (like others, I couldn't find them). Fiddling around at this point has allowed me to do some stabilizing... but I still haven't figured out exactly what the controls do, how to fine tune the results, or how to adjust the picture to get rid of the resulting bars around the edges. I'm hoping that the developer - or one of the people who HAVE made the software work - can write some decent documentation for the rest of us! (Version 2.2.3)

MRCHEAPS Actually, the software does seem to work - but the documentation is so confusing that I initially wasn't able to get it to work either. I eventually stumbled into some successful results, but wasn't sure how. I've continued playing with it, but still don't know how to reliably get results. Since others here have reported good things, I assume it can be done...but I'm reluctant to buy the software until I can prove it to myself. It's also frightening to read that this version of the software is "much more user friendly" than the previous version. (Version 2.2.2)

MRCHEAPS I'm also wondering if this is compatible with HD footage. Also, in eliminating the shakes, are there noticeable artifacts introduced into the resulting somewhat-enlarged picture? (Version 2.2.2)

MRCHEAPS I'm glad that you say you're responding to emails, but as of 2:20 pm Friday (Dallas), all I've gotten is an auto-reply saying that someone will be in touch sometime. No possible solutions, no links, no nothing. The link on the Macupdate page did NOT work, giving only a "nothing to install" message. Putting the old plug-in back manually got me a message that I had exceeded my number of registrations. I'll further note that when I clicked to receive an update today, it claimed to be downloading an update to 1.1.8...NOT version 2.0. I've lost hours of time today on this, and am not a happy camper. MRCHEAPS Thanks for the tip about retrieving the preference file (mine had been moved to the trash, but hadn't been emptied yet). I was able - FINALLY - to get the old version of iWow working and registered again, due exclusively to the help here online and NO thanks to SRS Labs. (Version 2.0)

MRCHEAPS I've got the same situation; I managed to find a clean copy of the older plug-in, restored it to the proper folder, but can not use my PAID registration number to reactivate because it's allegedly exceeded the maximum number of registrations (which, apparently, is "1"). Not a peep from SRS Labs. And the link on this page to the "re-installation" version doesn't work...you just get the "nothing to install" message. I'm starting to hear the words "RIP OFF" in simulated 3D holophonic surround sound... (Version 2.0)

MRCHEAPS I was a reasonably happy registered user of version 1. It "auto-updated" to version 2 and informed me that I'd have to cough up $12. Huh? I nuked the new version but have been unable to restore the old version because SRS Labs has apparently made it unavailable (their installer calls the program from their site). So SRS Labs basically wiped out the version I'd paid for since I didn't immediately jump on their somewhat questionable upgrade. LOTS of people are steamed about this, and it's impossible to think SRS Labs didn't know this would happen (nor have they corrected it). Apart from that, iWow 1 is marginally better than the iTunes equalizer and other settings, but can't keep your simple settings in memory. Sloppy workmanship and poor customer support. Bah. MRCHEAPS Ambient: "does that mean that everyday there is a different discounted application for sale through macupdate everyday" -yes, if you check the site on days when they're NOT having the wild bundle-a-thon, there's a daily piece of shareware available at a discount, usually half-price. Some great bargains! (Version )
