MOUSEE I've been using this software for years and it is working in the background, doing a great job. It catches 99.9% of spam messages, and rarely sends a valid one to the spam box. Stability is great and so is the ease of use. Upgrades have been coming when needed, and the developer is not charging for them unless a major one is released. Great policy, thanks! MOUSEE And why give 2 stars only to shoot a great product down? Just because you use something else? This is ridiculous. (Version 2.7.6)

MOUSEE After 2.5 years, we get a very minor update, still in PPC. A program that is not a binary in the winter of 08 is totally disqualified, especially when one considers that the competition kept the pace. I was waiting for an iPhone compatible version (as announced on the Web Confidential site), but I assume this may not be here for another few years. This time, I'm going to shop around. MOUSEE Same thing as HILLD here. Software installs correctly, but every time it is launched I get a crash when the registration panel shows up. So it went to the trash. (Version 1.0)

APP4MAC The utility Default Folder X is not compatible with CheckUp. You have to disable it before to launch CheckUp. The developer (St Clair software) is working on an update. (Version 1.0)

MOUSEE Thanks for the info. Will wait for an update of Default Folder before trying your application. (Version 1.0)

CheckUp | Feb 3 2008 |
BRUCE_Y This seems like a strange workaround. I have been using Default Folder X for years, and it is pretty reliable. So to have to disable one of my apps which I want to be running all the time, in order to run the checkup program occasionally (since I do not want the background system checkup program running all the time) seems backwards. Shouldn't CheckUp itself be also making some kind of code changes to ensure compatibility with long-standing Macintosh applications? (Version 1.0)

CheckUp | Feb 3 2008 |
APP4MAC We received crash reports and the problem is clearly related to Default Folder X. This utility is also not compatible with many other applications like MySQL Query Browser. It's because the utility hack the system. (Version 1.0)

BRUCE_Y OK, thank you for some clarification on the issue. (and the speedy reply.) I am the type that likes to know the details and reasons on tech issues... ;) (Version 1.0)

Entourage Email Archive X | Jan 29 2008 |
MOUSEE EAA X has been a great software, but unfortunately it is not working with the Entourage version coming with Microsoft Office 2008. No words on the developer site about an upgrade to fix that problem. Any news? TIA. (Version 3.6.1)

MOUSEE Thank you so much for that little fix. That Adobe problem was stopping me to set the language process on full auto. Now I will even forget the Macaroni is installed ;-) (Version 2.0.8)

MOUSEE The developer site states that a new, Universal Binary version will be out this winter. Less than 10 days left before Spring and the temptation is getting really high to move from a software last updated in November 2005 to a more up to date program. Any news, Alco Blom? (Version 3.7.6)

JiWire WiFi Hotspot Finder | Feb 5 2007 |
MACUPDATE ADMIN I installed it and it works with no issues, even found some hotspots near my home that I did not know about. MacBook Pro 15" 2.33 GHz, OS X 10.4.8 (Version 3.0)

JiWire WiFi Hotspot Finder | Feb 6 2007 |
MOUSEE Thanks. Tried a fresh download, turned off all other widgets, restarted, installed Jiwire, still crashing... Must be an incompatibility with something I have running. Too bad, and I haven't enough time to do more testing. (Version 3.0)

Uninstaller | Dec 4 2006 |
MOUSEE Thanks a lot for that upgrade bringing Uninstaller to the Intel side of the Macintosh. Startup and process are much faster. A question though: RosettaTest still sees Uninstaller 1.1 as running under Rosetta, even though the "Open using Rosetta" box in the Uninstaller's Finder informations window is not checked. Any idea why? (Version 1.10)

MACMAGNA Seems that launching the app with root privileges confuses RosettaTest. (Version 1.10)

Uninstaller | Mar 12 2007 |
WLOGON This was an issue in RosettaTest, where programs launched with privileges from a different users were interpreted as not running natively. This is the case with programs running in super-user mode, as does Uninstaller.

MOUSEE Nice idea and it seems to work fine, but there is a big problem: although it seems you are in the Finder, you are not really there anymore, and Control-Click does not work within Camouflage. I use that key combination (or its alternate right-click) all the time, especially because of FinderPop. So that means I cannot use Camouflage. (Version 1.1)

MOUSEE The only advantage of your app is to have a clean desktop while working. If you do not see the need for the contextual menu and, in my case FinderPop, then I don't know what to add to my comment. :/) (Version 1.1)

Camouflage | Oct 22 2006 |
KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM well you are right, first my app justs removes the icons and makes a clean desktop, and second i don't see the need for a context menu. but on the other hand i also don't know what finderPop is doing and also i don't know what you want to do with the context menu. so if you explain to me what you want to do with the context menu or why you use finder pop i may try to find a solution for the problem. btw: if you want to open a window with the desktop you just need to option-click the desktop and one will open up. i guess you can use the context menu then. (Version 1.1)

Camouflage | Oct 22 2006 |
MOUSEE FinderPop is a contextual menu a user can fill with any kind of documents or application shortcuts he wants. By right-clicking once, anywhere on the desktop, I can launch anything I want at anytime. It's used dozens of time a day and it is more efficient than going to the Dock. You can create submenus, etc. You can find a better and more complete description here: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/655. Also, the Mac OS is using contextutal menus a lot. Having to open a window first is not really practical and make your application loose its appeal. If you could add that function, then your app would become a killer with a user's messy desktop (yeah, that would be me...) (Version 1.1)

Camouflage | Oct 22 2006 |
i just asked the finderpop developer if he can help me integrate that feature. (Version 1.1)

Camouflage | Oct 24 2006 |
KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM you should try out the 'click through' option, this will give you the normal context menu back. but take care, you can also select a file, but you do not see that due to camouflage hiding that file's icon. (Version 1.3)

Camouflage | Oct 24 2006 |
SULEIMAN You both should just use Quicksilver instead of FinderPop. It's far more powerful, is as fast as you can type, and can be activated from any application (not only on the desktop). (Version 1.3)

Camouflage | Oct 24 2006 |
KARSTEN@BRIKSOFTWARE.COM actually i'm using it since half a year now and couldn't live without it anymore ;-) i always miss it when i don't use my mac cause it speeds up everything so much. As for people who want to learn more about it: have a look at the unofficial apple weblog, they've quite a lot of posts about quicksilver like links to tutorials and other stuff. (Version 1.3)

MOUSEE Very well done, but as others have said before, it is too expensive. Especially for something that has not been upgraded in almost a year: are we going to get support or is it going to be abandoned by the developer? $10 seems about right. (Version 2.0.7)
